I am looking to move over from a PC to a Mac.. jus wondering if anyone can give me some info on the diff between Mac vs Macbook PRO besides the specs. I went to Bestbuy to actually look at them and it seems that the processor is the same the hard drive was smaller on the PRO 250 GB on the Mac and 160GB on the PRO and same amount of RAM.. the only thing that the pro had better was the video card. and it has a silver casing vs the white case.

what else should i be comparing?

I don't think there'd be any real difference. The pro might be a bit more durable because of the aluminum enclosure but I can't see anything beyond that.

The big difference within the Pro line is the video cards. The ones with the Nvidia 9400 cards are shared-memory cards, while the ones with both the 9400 and 9600 GT have the 9600 running on their own video ram. That'd be the choice if I was running ScratchLIVE video-sl, but for basic use, any new mac is just fine (even if it only has 2 GB ram as opposed to 4 GB).

Basically, you'll look cooler with the Pro, which is fucking important.

so instead of paying $200 more for the pro to look "cool" LOL i would rather spend the $200 towards upgrading memory or even a bigger hard drive.

If you plan on doing video, then get the pro with the upgraded video card. also, the regular macbook doesn't support fw800, right?

Correct... but I just started mixing video with a 2TB USB only drive and there are no issues. Of course, transferring a lot of data at once is slow.... but no issues when it comes to VSL.

i just like the glances and jaw drops when i bust out the 17 mbp at starbucks... you'll see people slowly putting away their thinkpads. that's why i really bought it.. haha.
