CDJ 400 + HID + TTM 57 SL ??

EFG 3:18 AM - 1 March, 2010
Hi,

I already have a pair of CDJ 400's and i would like to add a serato option (SL box or 57 mixer) to run these players in native HID mode, as this mode seems from what i have read to be the best option in terms of jog wheel control etc. I also want to change my mixer so i thinking the 57 might be the way to go as i want to avoid touching laptop during play if possible, i know the native control will avoid this but the mixer does it even better.

So if i chose the 57 mixer, will all the soft controls on the mixer work as normal with these players ? as in HID the cdj buttons also control many of the same functions in serato as the mixer, will they all work well in tandem or will they overlap in a bad way allowing you to use only one or the other ?

If anybody has hands on experience with this set up or opinions i would be grateful.

Thanks

Nope, they don't interfere with each other. I have a 57 and a cdj400, and I love the control I have with the CDJ. I can only imagine how the new CDJ's will be. Remember that on the 57 you can remap the buttons to whatever you like, with the exception of the last bank because that is setup for FX(not the new effects added in 2.0) The 57 has had its own effects for sometime(and these are post fader).

It's a great combination personally, I've had this setup for sometime.

**So the 57 works with the CDJ-400 as the midi??

Same setup here, I love it!

The CDJ is native HID, no need to map anything... but you do have 3 buttons which you could map, the effect buttons, because you cannot use the onboard effects of the CDJ's.

I've had the 57 for some time, and I recently added a pair of cdj 400's. I tried running everything directly to serato (usb connections, not timecode cd's), but couldn't get everything to work. The track info would show up on the cdj, but it wouldn't play. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

have that same set up works perfect for me in hid mode i love it, the control is pretty accurate and even if you want you can scratch with them as well .@DJ Phitthy are you in internal mode setting on the software? if not you can probably try that.

Got playback working, but none of the effects will work.

after some research, it appears that the effects cannot be used with Serato, neither in internal mode or with timecoded cds. BOO :( If anyone has a workaround I'd love to hear it. I was really hoping to have the capability to use the effects with the jog wheel (I miss that most from my previous rigs, before Serato).

I just picked up a second pair of CDJ-400's w/57SL. I have a Mac Book Pro 13 with only 2 USB Ports. Is anyone using a powered USB Hub (you can recommend). I was told this is the only set up that would work? Thanks.

DJ Philthy, I doubt you will be able to use the jog wheels for effects, because the CDJs operate in HID mode. Alternatively, you can assign the 3 effects buttons for cue points, which is what I did. DJJulian: Yes the CDJ 400s must operate with a powered USB hub. Remember to plug in the hub into the 'more powerful' USB port on the Macbook, which should be the port closer to you. I plug in my 57 and SL1 into the port closer to the power connector, and never had problems with this setup ever. No dropouts whatsoever.

Yes sir. No problems here .
