PLEASE FIX YOUR SHIT!!!!!
ps: if anyone has this dudes email or website (as i cant find shit about dude) please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why not just set a cue point from16 beats out and go from there?
do you really need 32 beats to mix an intro?
(just a work around suggestion until dude fixes his shit)

I'll look him up... By the way Millz, what pool seems to be the best for country? I've got Cadillac Ranch tomorrow night... I already have a bunch but not much from past few months

I was thinking the same OB1, but if the guy gets set straight, problem solved for everyone and less work for us!
Millz

al,
some of the country stuff hes putting out isnt bad, but its off...i MIGHT play a country track once in a blue moon, but im damn sure not going to
1. remix it myself
2. pay anything more than the 10/month for cunt tree trax :)
im only blasting this dude so i can set his ass straight so i dont have to create loops and cuepoints (less work is much nicer).
sigh

I've done it... dropped a hip-hop break along with David Allen Coe and all the rednecks looked up like wtf!

6:29 AM - 26 February, 2010
Actually, yes. It can be mixed. If done right, it works great. Take for example, you're playing something 105 bpm.... Rascal Flatts - Me and my gang or Life is a highway are the same tempo...something fun to do, throw em a curveball...
DJDaveOtt
6:30 AM - 26 February, 2010
DJ Starr went to Bar Louie in Cranberry until the summer when he'll go back to Bar Room deck... Yeah he plays whatever, but I'm gonna do first hour or so with primarily country and older music videos...

Can't find him on facebook either...I thought that would be easy. Where's that famous Staple's "easy button" when you need it? lol

Yeah whoever did the juvenile - mama got ass intro/outro version (at 8thwonder) was way off on the number of beats in the intro...it's some odd number that messes up my flow.

thats what headphones are for....and knowing your music before hand just cause you can see the waveform doesnt mean you rely on them only .....

"Knowing your music beforehand" is all good, but there's really no excuse for anyone to do an edit or "extend" of a standard 4/4 pop song with a completely wrong number of beats on the intro or outro.

DJ Nak ....I really wonder how U jump to conclusions:
I don't use waveforms & I do have headphones...pioneer 2000's for that matter....pls refer to DJ Mark's comments above.
I sometimes download a song & play it the same night in the club without listening to it before hand....that's the nature of the business & the way music is being delivered these days (by the way I get Smash/8th/Xtenda so i have alot of volume coming in plus Nu Urban traxx/Proo Urban Radio/Promo Urban Club for audio).
You expect a well timed intro & it is off & it throws you off. If U don't play that song for another 3 months & you forgot to label it or make a comment to remind yourself, U can make the same mistake twice especially if U used it in a quick mix where U had no time to preview it (different clubs, different genres, some places like the quick mix).
To DJ Bren...it's not ALWAYS about : "If you pay monkeys you get peanuts..., and if you pay only peanuts you get monkeys". For example when PROMO ONLY started putting NOTES beside the songs that had Skits/Breaks in the middle, they occasionally let a few songs slip through the cracks & did not label a song as having a Break in the middle. I have gotten my PO Urban video in the mail...the same day i was deejaying...played it live & Pow their was a Skit in the middle...or Smashvidz labelling a song clean but it is infact Dirty....happens every once in a while........so sometimes despite paying good money you still suffer from quality control issues.
Pls lets all be positive, not attck each other & not jump to conclusions about each other. Thanks.

at the end the day we have to be able to tell the difference between a mistake or
someone messing up..
and then you just have quantity over quality and not putting out a professional product.

Yes it gets done but why would you want to do that with a track from 8th you should no better.....I could see a smash edit when you know its gonna be spot on everytime but guessing on a 8th track is just asking for trouble IMHO
your absolutely right.... but that being said we all know 8th has issues.....so those track you gotta know beforehand
mos def thanks for that!!!

DJ Nak,
it is in anticipation of the above response from you that I already supplied you with examples where even Promo Only & Smash Vidz have messed things up....not just 8th Wonder.
I have a DVD from Promo Only where they did not label a break/Skit in a video as is there policy. I picked the DVD from my mail box at 5.00 pm & started my Friday gig at 6.00 pm (Happy Hour) & relied on the fact that promo only were supposed to label videos with breaks....alas this video was not labeled as having a break...I therefore thought there was no break & played it Live but there was a break...luckily it was happy hour...no one was dancing people were mingling at the bar.......still had i known I wouldn't have played it.
Not to single out Promo Only, I gave an example of Smashvidz labelling a song as clean version. You download it, no time to preview....barely enough time to rename, add to appropriate folder & build overviews. You go to a gig where clean music was the preference...play the song & wow....it's not the clean version...its the dirty version.
These mistakes are rare from Promo Only/Smash vidz but they do happen. 8th wonder is not alone in making errors but some editors at 8th wonder are worse at making errors with the intro lengths compared to editors at other sites.
I think we should move on...I just did not like the fact that I was agreeing with others opinions that the editors should be more careful...and u somehow implied that i possibly rely on waveforms which I never use & I should use my headphones instead..which I always use.
I however often mix beats in Sync live without pre-matching. If u know there BPM's in your head...example Snoop - I wanna Love You & T-Pain - I'm sprung. Both are about a 100 bpm, same style, same release period, mix well together, etc etc. Most experienced DJ's can beatmatch these 2 flawleslly live without pre-listening.....except if U are UNAWARE that one of the intros was off & kicks in sooner than expected.
Why would I have to mix LIVE without previewing? sometimes the boss comes to speak to me...or Birthday folks are writing their names down on the shout out list....or U are announcing a car parked in a no parking zone etc etc whatever the reason it happens & we are all simply asking that the editors improve their timing/counts on the intros.....this was the original topic thread.

I remember watching Collie Budz mamacita video from Xtendamix a few days ago (AT HOME)....it is a different video from the one I have from Promo Only that I have had for about 3 years now. About a minute from the end of the video (from Xtendamix) it changed to another Collie Budz song. The only reason I had watched the whole video was because I was enjoying the video & it was different from the one I had from Promo Only....the one from Promo Only is the full song from begining to end.
Had I played the one from Xtendamix LIVE I would have been messed up. I currently have over 800 GB of MP4 & adding about 15-20 GB per week at times......I cannot preview all these hence the call for better intros from editors

Calm down man......I know the waveform/headphone thing angered you and I apologize :)...all pools screw up and yes we get thrown a curve ball here and there ......all I was saying was,
1 we all know what 8th puts out....
2 we all know that they F up alot....
3 we all know we pay 10 bucks a month for that ish.......
4 we all know what quality to expect from them...
5 so why would you want to play one of their tracks without a least a quick preview of it
Im sorry 8th is last on my playing order(meaning if I could not get an edit from somewhere else I might resort to the 8th edit)So that being said I myself have to know that track a bit before I play it even if that mean skimming quickly over seconds before I play it
Im glad they are being called out though hopefully some of the editors over there will get a clue..... I mean do they even dj ? or do they even use their own stuff when they do? and if they do do they have ears/eyes?I Subscribe to 8th yes But I also know why I subscribe to them(B/c Of the price if it was the same price as smash I wouldnt subscribe) If I get a couple usable vids here and there then sweet ....I strongly think they need some quality control improvements and would love to see it
And John Cha these comments are not really geared towards you most of your stuff is on point...but many others @ 8th are just plain wrong in all aspects....

I thought if you paid bananas, you get monkeys??
my $10/month really helped to get my video collection started.
When I get a better version of something, the old one goes to the dumpster.
As stated before, you get what you pay for. I'm not expecting the best in quality and I'm happy with what I got.

For the $10/month, I'm really not complaining...but as I said before, I would gladly pay more if they'd just step up the quality.

i didnt really get why this was a promlem UNTIL, i DLed a bunch from the last batch, i was broadcasting a live show (lol wow that sounded important there was like 3 people viewing) and i was picking new tracks and setting cue points and loops and mixing off the cusp live and there was like an hour period that made me look like amateur hour, like almost an hour long of tracks that ended short or ran long causing off mixes.....ya if i had gone through the tracks earlier and learned each and every one in and out i could have noted which were off but it shouldnt really need to be an issue im worried about

As I've said several times, I would happily pay more if they'd just fix their shit.
For me, and I suspect most of the other people who are "bothering", the issue is that 8th Wonder *does* put out a lot of stuff not found elsewhere...if they'd just put in that extra 10% effort, it would make a huge difference. The difference between "can't use this defective crap" and "this is cool shit I can play", to be extremely blunt about it.
All of their editors also ought to be required to read the recent thread about inverse telecining: www.scratchlive.net
my(former)12inch is another site (which charges a hell of a lot more) that just can't seem to get their act together.

The song I used as an example ......Juvenile - Got it from her mama is not available on Smashvidz, Xtendamix, My 12 inch or DJ Video Source. Only 8th wonder has it for download on their site.
I actually don't want or need the extended mix (with the off beat intro by DJ Cutt) but they did not upload the original version. If they had, I would have just downloaded & played the original & said to hell with DJ Cutts Extended intro version.

Can someone post up a snippett of his intro tracks or upload to youtube.
I always double triple check my shit when I add intros or whatever to make sure it's right. Fuck I count with it, hear the track and feel when the verse is/should come in.
How can you mess that up more than once or twice. MAX

If a company has been failing its customers for this long, why would they change a winning formula now? They have no video expertise, and they don't want to pay anybody that does, at least not enough to attract ones interest.
8th always sounded too good to be true, and no shit it was, move on there are better pools out there but be careful they might cost you more than your taxi home.

The one thing I'll say in their favor is that if you play any "dance"/"house" mixes of pop songs, 8th Wonder has posted some stuff that no one else has. They did a decent job with Rihanna "Rude Boy", for example (***though again, how in the hell and why are they managing to encode with Keyframes set at "-1"?***)
But you sure have to sift through a lot of crap otherwise (today's "you'll need a barf-bag and earplugs special feature": Lady Gaga singing off-key over the top of The Human League...did someone actually think that in any way sounded good????).

I don't mind a lot of the content on 8th, it can be useful library filler at a cheap price. But today's batch is the worst ever!
As well as the aforementioned Gaga monstrosity, there are at least 4 acapella videos made with DIY acapella audio. They sound disgusting, a total waste of time for the editor, the site, and my time to download.

well then my question of the day is where to get original videos, high quality, that I can pick and choose without buying a month late DVD... Seriously. I find audio edits I like long before the video comes out and I don't mind editing in the right mix myself. But every time I think about signing up for Smashvidz or other sites, I get left at, am I getting original video or am I getting edits? I want the original video, not some stupid I have to re-edit the one I like better onto and chop up and edit someone elses edit.
Seriously... as bad as some of the audio quality is, Itunes video has been a great filler for older videos I'm missing... No stupid chryons.. no editor names, just a clean video end to end (although the clean edit low quality audio drives me nuts if I don't have time to re-fix the audio before the gig)...
Seriously i can't think of anything I've spent $50 on this past week than a pile of Itunes videos that have given me exactly what I'm looking for, on demand...
The audio sucks and is mostly clean but at lezst it's what I want for a decent price... if other pools are offering original videos other than 8th wonder id be happy to join... but all the other sites seem to showcase is their remixes that i don't want. I'd love to be able to pick and choose high quality MP4 videos (old and new) on a record pool even if I had to pay per track... it seems like all the on-demond purchase sites are 99% remixes...

If I was watching a video in a club I'd like to know the name of the song, and remix if applicable, titles are a good thing imo.
If something is especially hot you want to know who did it, and if something sucks you'll also want to know.

Promo Only is usually late getting to the game with videos. They either guess right about a song being a hit or they miss and you're left waiting for it for a few months. So to fill the gap we, as consumer not remixers, have to chose where to fill the gap. Do we pay for a service that edits the videos for us and gives a clean/dirty/blend/snip/pella versions? Or do we rip from another source? What about when we get a remix that we want to put with a video? Promo Only is late so we can't rip to vob and everything else is already edited to mp4 with another remixer's tag. So having the original without having the wait would be nice...and even nicer if it didn't come from youtube (compressed, compressed, and compressed again).
As far as the credits go, it's completely different now than when it was music only. If you played a remix you either had to announce it or tell someone when they came to ask you. And that was IF people even wanted to know what it was. Now you can just see it on the screen. I know djs/vjs that block it out with a logo and even I block em with a webcam shot when broadcasting live online. It's usually to keep away those people taking notes on what to go get and not to take away credit. We're not trying to boost sales for yourremix or smashvidz. If we like the service we recommend it and let people go pick out their own videos. But if we're paying to get on those sites, it would be nice to get a high quality original, non-edited version of a video. Not saying it has to be untagged, but just that it's available...which smash has on a lot of videos with both clean and dirty versions.

what i dont get.... is why most video editiors, who did not do the audio.... put their name and make a huge audio/video intro... to a mix that they didnt even do... and most video editors... didnt even really add anything special to the video edit. WACK.

and this isnt pointed at any of u guys in here... i just see some of these guys think they are the shit because they can line up waveforms in fcp or vegas. yay.

Back to the original (and most important, IMO) point of this thread: DJ Cutt needs to learn a bit of music theory: 4/4, beats in measures, number of measures, etc. Beat structure, too: just cuz a a beat is hot doesn't mean it fits the song.
Oh, and also, Fatman Scoop shouts, various pop song du jour loops, and "Getcha Handz Up!!!!!" should NEVER EVER lead in a country video.
DJ Cutt, this is nothing personal. This is about your work. It's sub-standard (and that's putting it politely). We've all done things incorrectly at some point, but it's those who are humble and keep learning that excel. The rest get bashed and flamed on online forums.

i.e. Lady GaGa - telephone (Kaskade Remix)
Everything is squished into a 4:3 aspect ratio, there are black bars at the top. I could probably ;live with this if I needed to play that particular remix, but the -1 Keyframes - WTF is being used to encode that!
I realize this is a $9.99 service, but these editors are just wasting their own time if no one can play their videos....

keyframes are basically "start points" for your cpu to start decoding the video from, a reference frame if you will
serato suggests a keyframe every 30 frames (or one every second) so you can jump through videos (cue points) smoothly. If you have too many keyframes, you will strain your cpu too much.
These video with -1 keyframes (not quite sure how that works, I assume 0.... try skipping a minute ahead in VSL with your cursor, and see what happens, it will freeze. your cpu has to decode the whole video (as I understand it) every time you want to jump from one point of the track to another

I suspect 8th Wonder wouldn't pay enough to make it worthwhile to any qualified person.
If they're really only paying $30 for video edits (as I believe someone said earlier), that definitely explains why the quality is so hit-or-miss. That's a tiny fraction of what (audio-only) DJ remix services typically paid their "outside" editors/remixers... in 15-20-years-ago dollars, at that.
In the last month, I think I've added a grand total of 4-5 of their videos to my library, and several of those I had to re-encode due to the "no-keyframes" issue. Fortunately, someone at Strictly Hits did a usable version of the Lady Gaga Kaskade remix, so there's no good reason to suffer with 8th Wonder's keyframeless, squished, random-edited, 14.99FPS abortion of that remix.

If there was another video service that concentrated on the more "house"/"edm" side of things, and had better quality, I'd gladly subscribe even if it was a lot more expensive.

I wrote 8th Wonder this a while back:
Can I ask an honest question of the 8th wonder team? So, I'm in the process of downloading the 4 video packs and I've got #3 so far. For I believe every single video, there's a problem.
Will Smith - Miami: in 720x480 at a 3:2 aspect ratio, causing the video to be squished. Making it 640x480 and 1:1 makes the people look normal, not fat.
Aretha Franklin - Respect: The video is interlaced! Taking three seconds to look you can tell this. It's unusable as a result.
LMFAO - I'm In Miami: Big black bars at the top and bottom. Again it's 720x480 at 3:2. Making it 640x480 and 1:1 actually makes it so you don't need the black lines and it looks perfect. Moreover, the quality of this is so watered down from the original - there is pixelization and ghosting.
Ludacris - One More Drink: Audio is garbage (since the acapella used is a custom made one) and it suffers from all the same aspect ratio problems as Miami and I'm in Miami.
Ludacris - How Low: The video is obviously from a low quality source since it looks like garbage (there's a few obvious moments of pixelization). It also should be 640x360 with no black bars instead of what it is -- 720x480 at 3:2.
Lady Gaga - Bad Romance: the video should be 640x360 with no black bars instead of what it is -- 720x480 at 3:2. The friggin' video for Around the World is interlaced just like Respect is!
Kesha - Tik Tok: The video is editing incredibly poorly leaving hanging frames right before cuts - this looks ugly. There is pixelization repeatedly - the videos are obviously from low-quality sources, most likely iTunes or worse.
Rascal Flatts - Take You There: the video should be 640x360 with no black bars instead of what it is -- 720x480 at 3:2.
Justin Moore - Party in the Backwoods: Other than the ghosting that goes on all video long, it looks fine.
Josh Thompson - Beer or Money: The video should be 640x360 with no black bars instead of what it is -- 720x480 at 3:2
Petey Pablo - Vibrate: Looks pretty good mostly. It's obviously not from a DAT tape or a high-quality source but it's the best of the bunch.
Lost Trailers - Country Folks: the video should be 640x360 with no black bars instead of what it is -- 720x480 at 3:2
Kid Rock - American Bad Ass: Looks fine mostly except that it's not from a HQ source.
Now, EVERY video in that bunch has a problem. Some are completely useless and have no chance of ever being used by a DJ who cares about the quality of the video. Interlacing is SO common in the videos put up on 8th Wonder. So let me ask you as a team this:
Why should I, or anyone, keep the subscription I have with 8th Wonder? Considering all that you guys put out is incredibly amateurish: full of aspect ratio and resolution errors, often with black bars on the sides, with poor editing and of low quality video, I see no reason. Moreover, why are you scamming customers this way - once people realize how poor the quality of the product you are putting out is, they leave. I have subscribed and unsubscribed and then resubscribed in the past just to see if the quality as gone up and I've always been really really disappointed. I hope this isn't taken as a personal insult -- this is all meant in the purposes of you as a company raising the quality of the product to that of, say, SmashVidz.

thats the key point man...
I have a handful of friends who are NOT what Id call performance DJs.
they run VDJ and other programs... they do alot of mobil gigs, bars strip clubs...
they LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE 8th wonder.
now, Im "almost to that point" where I can speak intelligently enough about the
errors, I understand all the issues going on with their videos...
Im VERY guilty of the 720/480 and the 3:2. I was just completely ignorant to it.
fortunately I have friends who help me out and coach me along.
(then again...Im not trying to sell my shit...and I told myself I wasnt even going to entertain the idea of anykinda "mass" distribution until Ive mastered rendering and have legitimate HQ sources)
having that been said... I tell my "peers" around here the same shit (now that Im the guy making videos) all those things that are wrong with 8th wonder vidz...
and they just look at me like I was just speaking in tongues.
a few of them outright have said...I dont care, people dont notice...
another guy, subscribes to 8th wonder, than redistributes al the videos from them
to all the bars he has accounts with on their house system.
so, its clear that the market the 8th wonder is catering to is the ignorant video guys looking for quantity, and a site they could survive off of...and who are just plain
ignorant to what they are getting.

I also have a few "VJ" friends in that category. I think they're selling themselves short ultimately, because there are quite a lot of people who definitely *do* notice.
And you'd have to be blind not to see some of the glaring errors, such as 14.99FPS video or the ones with no keyframes that "freeze" the Mac Finder preview (and make SSL/VSL struggle) if you try skipping ahead.

you have to knod your head to someone who walks in here [the lion's den] and basically says how do you want it, and then delivers.

I actually don't. I was in charge there for the first season they were open and then got bumped because of some bullshit and ended up running their "tech" instead. I left there in Sept 2006 and moved to AC to open up the Game On there.
And yes it does. It was infuriating - I had to use DJP for the first season I was there instead of actually mixing. Beyond frustrating.

I would like to be there myself. I've encoded and reencoded my vobs and isos so many times trying different settings in Streamclip and Handbrake. I probably still don't have it right. It would be nice if there were a tutorial on how to rip those dvds, vobs, etc to get the 16:9 widescreen ratio from a 4:3 720x480 file. How much do I crop? Do I zoom? Do I contain within the specified size?
That's just part of converting...not rendering from a remixed file. You have to get the right loading preset palate, the right project settings, and then the right export settings. Which leads to the whole, "I have no idea what I'm doing yet so the mixes don't go anywhere except my collection." I just wish everyone had that same philosophy on it. I'm slowly learning about frame rates, IVTCing, interlaced files, etc. It's not like converting an mp3 or aac file from a wav file. It's a lot more involved and it takes time. Like you said...3 years and people are now asking you.

I just grabbed the Bren F edits of Telephone from Crooklyn, man the difference between this guys edits and those on 8th is night and day, worth the extra dollars in my view.
It's not expensive to use Promo only or Smash, and then top up your remixes from a place like Crooklyn, not for what I make anyway..., fair is fair.

Logo free edits FTW!.
I use smash for the og and extended new shit. Sometimes I'll get the logo free stuff and not use smash.
I don't care for crooklyn, 8th or any other pool.
I make my own shit and to be in this game you pretty much have to.
I haven't checked out yourremix yet, but since I edit my own stuff, it's really rare that I would actually buy something from somewhere else unless I'm too lazy to make it myself.

my patience grew thin with all those remix services way too fast.
90% of the time the mixes were way too predictable, and made from the exact
same formula...every time!!
I found that tracks got stale FASTER when playing them from those major rmx services.
the same samples, the same way the song breaks...
(sure, now with cue points you "COULD" skip it...)
I did better with DMS services like Acme tunes, phat staxx, ect ect ect...
it was almost like they basically attached the instrumental to the beginning and end.
which fortunatly is pretty much funkymix/xmix/mixfactor ect ect all went
with the cheesy 2nd 32 beats samples...ect ect.
I would love for someone to re do the looking back/xmix club classics
without all those stuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid samples....
one video Id like though.
which Ill probably make eventually is The Mo Money Mo Problems
with the run dmc re-drum and hypnotize samples...
I cant remember which issue...its a 2x vinyl though on xmix urban

with the cheesy 2nd 32 beats samples...ect ect.

Well, back to what the thread was originally about... At least Funkymix/Xmix was always 32 beats (runs and hides), and not sometimes 33 or 31.
Millz
9:08 PM - 19 March, 2010
funkymix was always a 2 x 32 and sometimes a 3 x 32...first 32 intro, 2nd and/or 3rd oversampling like woaaah. ultimix 4 x 32.
DouggyFresh
9:14 PM - 19 March, 2010
But it was at least a combination of 32's... Some older stuff I only have as funkymix and it's not even that it's got super long intros, the songs are often completely different where going to the cue point where the song should start...

its Xmix Urban.... errrr... 16 or 18.
I forget... might have had Wyclef on it too...Ill look when I get home.
but its the entire track 2x32 intro, no break end with run dmc
then blazes through another 5-6 songs.
I just want that mo money mo problems mix..
(if I ever had to pick one...)
their HOME ALONE mix isnt bad either.
Osheen, Chaos and a few others put some good shit out.

For classic stuff, I preferred Mixx It. They remixed the classics when they weren't classics yet, so they retained that era's feel, as opposed to others who added extra beats, bass, etc.
Not sure if they ever went nationwide, though. Might have been just a No. Cali thing.

mixx-it was probably the first remix service record i bought in the early 90's, can't forget those pink cases they came in. i didn't know how to mix at the time, but i remember it had cameron paul's mega mixes on it and i'd play that shit at parties thinking it was dope but couldn't do it myself, haha.

I was lucky enough to meet a dj in 96 who was selling all his RMX service (87-95)
I bought the whole lot for like 200.00
maybe 175 peices of vinyl.
it was pretty much everything u could ever want...
some of the mixes were HORRIBLE. some were better than the originals.
before that I was only buying doubles of everything and trying to be the
next DJ Cheese with my 1 battle break record.
then, it was around 1997/98 maybe... ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.
crazy services poppin up.

Regarding the topic...i think the way this could be solved is if 8th wonder put in a RATING SYSTEM. Then you guys could review and complain as needed.
I just wasted a ton of time DLing some SHIT videos (especially the remixes) that are totally not playable for one reason or another. it would be nice to know if i am wasting my time before hand.
With the merge i dont know if it was a good move or not, more selection = more sifting through crap (unless John Cha makes it IMO) ....

They have one, though you can't see how anyone else is rating stuff - and there's no way to differentiate between feedback about the song, or feedback about the edit.
And John Cha isn't always immune to "problem" edits, though typically the issues are more with audio. The Mellefresh/Deadmau5 he did this past week has a really nasty off-time edit after the first 32 beats.

I've given up on 8th wonder video blends/mashups. It's such a shame that 8th wonder doesn't get the quality better.
I still have to deal with the intro/outro for some videos that I don't get from other places. I've been very happy over the past year with MyMp3Pool for audio & audio remixes, I wish they would get more videos (only 10 this month)... I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with another service soon, I'm split between getting SmashVidz or Promo Only Express DFF... I'm more interested in new original hip hop videos, more so than remixes or intro/outro...

Guys, why don't you get it? The 8th Wonder stuff is horrible, but there's no incentive for them to change because so many fucking idiots use their service because it's so dirt cheap.
They probably have 5,000 subscribers. That's $50,000 a month. Even if it's half that, at 25k, why change things?

Douggy,
Smash does have the og stuff. They give you singles and intros (Extendz)
The singles start off with the audio track starts, the only thing they do to singles is remove any skits so you an play them all the way through at a gig.
There are more singles on there than intros, if it's hot, you'll get it all, if it's not you get the singles only.

Legally speaking, gray areas should stay in the gray areas.
I got the same beating for mentioning SV once.
Pools should remain as best kept secrets imo, then nobody gets hurt.
There really isn't any difference between paying $5.99 for a remix track on one site or $9.99 for the all you can eat buffet site except the quality.
That only matters to those who know the difference.
If you got the time, patience and the deluxe BS filters working, go for it.

the quality argument aside, being able to get products made by other DJs on unofficial
mediums has been around since the first days of consumer grade production software.
White labels, bootlegs, dubplates to cds and mp3.
Alot of DJs thrive on "unofficial" remixes, edits ect ect...and if they didnt exist, unless
you were producing yourself (which not everyone has the means) every DJ would have less than 5 sources to get their videos...
Having managed a relatively popular record store for almost 5 years Ive witnessed that
alot of guys PREFFER the underground edit, the bootleg. (just as there are guys who only preffer the official label releases)
now, there are clear cut laws about audio and redistribution for profit.
but the video world, is still in its infant phase...you could even argue toddler.
Aside from the "single" versions of the videos on 8th wonder, you can say that
the extended versions, and the "mashups" (as bad as they might be) are just like
the white labels. Sure, as far as the labels are concerned its still Janet Jackson's
escapade... but mr dj got a tad creative with it, reprocessed it and got it back
into a cirrculation in a market that was almost non-existant prior to Video-DJs
So, who are any of us to decide if 8th wonder is worthy of use. we are not a court.
we are not label executives...
the only people who have any proper Jurisdiction here are the serato moderators.
if they dont want something here, thats it.
what we CAN do, and I feel its our jobs as consumers, and on some level: peers.
is discuss the shortcomings of the sites product, and like we do in other posts
sing praise of other product that warrant it.
ALL the pay-per-track sites carry mash-ups, which is a white label/bootleg made by
a non-label producer... some make better ones than others...
I personally subscribed to 8th wonder because it 10.00 a month...even if i use NOTHING from it for the whole month I dont even consider it a loss...its 10.00.
Im my mind thats ONE record... no big deal. But they are DEF the D-Student as
far as quality and content... but Ill pay 10.00 to sift through their sludge to find
the occasional 2-3 videos a week I can use, some of their remixers arent that bad
at all.
Like most horders I subscribe to everything I can (within reason....)
Ive been in Smash, Xtenda and Im about to Join DTV Videos... I also edit about
10 of my own videos a week, as well as usually pick up 7-12 a week from yourremix, crooklyn & strictly hits... any give week between all that, come thursday Im building overviews for 60-140 new videos a week... and I still want more. I never feel like

8th and many others suck to hell. But like JC said it's only ten dollars really what do you expect. My only issue with Providers such as 8th is that I paid a lot for my vids and have all the DVD's to prove it but a new dj just getting into video could download a collection in like 2 days for ten dollars... Which means instant competition at a lower price, sure the video quality is bad on most but on the real people don't know as long as they can see it they will be fine with it. I can only operate as of late off of reputation and tenure as a dj but with the economy all jacked up either I drop my prices to compete or let the cheap 8th wonder djs take over.... I don't agree. Just because you have great content doesn't mean you're gonna get far in this game either. It's not what content you have to play, but how you play it. Everybody can pretty much get the same video library nowadays, but they will never play it the same way or rock the crowd like some other DJ might. That's just my opinion. Unless you know something that I don't. Haha.

what gets me, is that some people are great remixxers.. thru crookyln or yourremix or even strictly, but they can barely put two songs together.. they dont even have that stage presence... it is what it is.

Agree with John 100%. It's the same as mixing music. The most important part of djing isn't beat matching. It's programming. That involves keeping it fresh, keeping it interesting, and knowing when to play the key songs at the right time. Which leads to the second most important, reading a crowd. If you can't read a crowd you have no business djing. That's everything from knowing when to change the tempo up, when a crowd will go for an off the wall kind of track or mash, rotating the dance floor out to the bar, etc.
I know guys that will straight up jack a set from dj because they can't plan for themselves. They watch what other djs do and mimic it song for song. And I laugh my ass off at em when it bombs because, a) they didn't do it at the right time, b) it was the wrong crowd, and c) they train wrecked their way through each mix.
But I understand where guys are coming from in this thread. You need usable material. It'd be like buying intro-outro mp3 that are off beat or like 128 quality. But on the same line, we're paying Walmart and K-mart quality product prices. You can't expect a Gucci product for that price.

Very true, but I would put programming and beat matching tied for #1 of most important things.
Tough call. I have seen guys rock a party trainwrecking and i have seen guys rock a party slamming songs in with tempos all over the place. In these situations it all came down to programming.

Yeah but I've seen guys who can't mix for shit kill the dancefloor with their offbeat mixing and WACK scratching. They just get the stink eye.

Of course the girls don't care if your mix is off, as long as you play the new Gaga.

sometimes it doesent matter who the DJ is... it matters who the crowd is.
the same guy couldnt rock SAME set with all the different crowd types out there.
Lets face it, people are morons.
sad truth.
so, when ur on stage with that crowd, you mix accordingly, adjust fire.
when ur playing sunday night, at an industry night, and everyone in the room
is even the slightest bit educated towards the craft your not gonna play the same style.
not that trainrecking, slamming mixes and such is EVER a good thing.
but Ive certainly seen people think the worst performances were amazing.
yet, from a technical stand-point they were horrendus....
I seen crowds loose their shit to ear bleeding cut & drops...
so, the question is.
Are they a "dj's dj" (which in turn means they CAN rock a show as well)
or are they a flash in pan, fakin the funk...eventually will fizzle and go away.
but riding the wave right now...til someone comes along and knocks them off the hill

I know this is off topic but relating to your thugged out friend asking for gaga and prince...
Years and years ago I worked at small club in Houston (when I lived there) and this huge muscle bouncer dude was shooting the shit with me I started talking about video games. Well when I mentioned that he lit up! At the time EverQuest was a new game. He apparently played it and was so amped up about telling me about it ... it was a whole different person I saw just then... to me it went from this huge intimating guy who probably gets laid every night by a different chick to a geeky dude who himself said he couldn't wait to get off of work to go home and play the game....
forking hilarious!

I kid you not, this Saturday, the same group of people requested Bad Romance 4 fucking times. But they thought they were slick by sending different people. I told the 4th person if they come up to me again I'm playin ATCQ & Gangstarr for the rest of the night.

Do people ever give you their CD that they probably recorded with a $50 mic that went into their 1/8" mic mini plug of their computer and tell you to play track 3 cause it's gonna make all the people in the club go nuts?! Haha, sorry for the run-on sentence!!!

The only way to really advance your game is to make your own videos.
Haha.
You guys are making my point.
Using just videos from CC/SV/8th/etc isn't enough to distinguish yourself from other video DJs. Skills, of course, matter, but that goes without saying I think. You can have great remixes but if your skills are garbage, you're done. I think that should go without saying.
I'm talking about "keeping it fresh", which is what I mean by making your own videos. It's very hard to keep your set interesting and new and different if you're only using videos that everyone and their mother has.
