HELP! Got a video gig Friday. Need to plug into S-video Input

DJDaveOtt 8:44 AM - 24 February, 2010
I just bought a MacBook Pro. Nvidia 8600GT with DVI output
Club only has S-video or composite(YELLOW) inputs.

What do I need and where can I buy it?
djnak 8:52 AM - 24 February, 2010
are you for real???

DJDaveOtt 9:18 AM - 24 February, 2010
djnak, if it were that simple I wouldn't have asked. Thanks for the lame joke. Maybe if you'd upgrade from your crap pc laptop, you'd understand ;-)
I'm usually the first to crack the joke, but it looks like I got ya back, so we're even.

Believe me, I've searched the forum, and yes djnak, even google..

but here's the problem:
There are converters, adapters and scalers...all available at the apple store and other places online. I just got into using a Mac (former pc user)

If I need to order one, I need to know asap, as I need it for Friday night.
Apple store has this converter store.apple.com
but reviews are horrible.
I need to know from someone who has done this before...What is the best way to connect my MacBook Pro to s-video or composite?

furthermore, that adapter is for ATI. I'm using Nvidia 8600GT
DJ Pimp 10:36 AM - 24 February, 2010
Dave you are really all over the place.
Yes that adapter that you posted the link from Apple store is what you need.
End of the story!
Enjoy:)
DJDaveOtt 10:41 AM - 24 February, 2010
I'm being told it's not by other djs and also from best buy..
did you read the reviews on it? more than half of them are complaints that it didn't work.

DJPimp, have you used that exact adapter? Not being a dick, I just don't have time for something that "should" work. I need something that WILL work and would like to hear from someone who has done this before

Why don't you just ship me yours and I'll try it ;-)
DJDaveOtt 2:56 PM - 24 February, 2010
I'm gonna go pick one up at the store and see if it works...I actually do hope you are right. $20 is cheap. Thanks for hangin in there and helping

dave do you have the unibody or do you have the older model macbook pro...i have the mackbook pro that came out before the unibody, 15' 08 model i believe....i bought that adapter and it works like a champ. From what i saw they dont see that adapter at best buy the one they sell at best buy is for the unibody and i think alot of the bad reviews are from unibody customers who dont know what they need. Like i said i bought it and it works great, once in a while ill plug it in and it wont showin color but if i reboot it then plug it in it fixes the problem, i think the issue is with how i remove the plug when im done because the only time this issue happens is when i plug it in, use it, then unplug it and plug it in again.....never had an issue while spinning with it once its set up

make sure its the right one i bought one from best buy and it was for the newer unibody (mini dvs i think) and it didnt fit my computer, had to return it and order the one you linked
DJDaveOtt 4:37 PM - 24 February, 2010
It is pre-unibody...just got off phone with local apple store.
Dj-M.Bezzle 5:05 PM - 24 February, 2010
ya that should work then, thats the lappy i have and the adfapter i used and mine works grrrrreat
DJDaveOtt 5:45 PM - 24 February, 2010
Best Buy only sells the mini cable...
Gotta go to apple store or order from internet.
I recommend apple store. They asked for my serial # and made sure it is correct part.
Headed out after lunch to pick it up

Okay Tony the Tiger lol

Thank you much!
Charlie Five 5:58 PM - 24 February, 2010
Go to the Apple Store and buy it. It will work. I had the same machine and same piece prior to getting the new unibody.
DJDaveOtt 4:29 PM - 25 February, 2010
IT WORKS!! I spent all evening and last night playing with it and it's effen awesome! Beyond what I was expecting!!
Thanks all of you for your help!
Charlie Five 5:09 PM - 25 February, 2010
Yeah it is so much easier to make work with the older MBPs (pre-unibody). When I bought the newer unibody MBP I didn't catch at 1st that the machine didn't output analog (which is s-video or composite) and was shocked when I had to buy a converter.

Have fun doing VIDEO!

This is what im saying, its such a pain to have to pack a converter along with an adapter. my mobile gigs i use VGA. For the club im at tonight tho, they actually have XLR for video!? so weird. I have to use xlr to RCA then mini Display Port to VGA to RCA...

wack
Millz 8:40 PM - 25 February, 2010

You're right, they don't. I had to go to the apple store in south hills to get an answer, and getting an answer from them is like pulling teeth. That store goes through employees like Tiger Woods goes through mistresses.....
Millz 8:57 PM - 25 February, 2010
the apple store in south hills is ok...only 2 of the 30 people working there actually know a computer inside and out.
DJDaveOtt 10:59 PM - 25 February, 2010
yeah and it seems neither one of them were working...lol

Wow... that was a useless read...

Here is a solution to the question.

ITV-900 PC to TV Converter

www.amazon.com

Used this one at one of the clubs using the RGB output to a video switch box and picture is awesome

It's a solution, but not the right one.

this is a VGA converter. I needed a DVI converter. this looks like a great product for someone with only VGA output..

hey Dave, I hope you bought 2 of them....having a back up is always nice since those adapters do go out from time to time....

this may be a dumb question but does anyone know with that adapter if you can use the composite out to go to one source, and then use the svideo out to go to a seperate source?? When i broadcast at home i have SL on 1 screen and the Main output going to my TV but i want to use a 2nd moniter to run the chat window

Here is a Video question for a tech or VDJ of the century if you know this..

I have a MBP/2008/ Black keys / Vid out put is Digital. I already have a PC to TV converter. Works great going directly to TV. HOWEVER, now the venue i Dj at has a CONVERTER to Booster to go on 7 plasmas. PC to TV now has poor qualtiy due to multiple converters. So now I am seeking into VGA to RCA/composite ADAPTER. It is available online at AMAZON.com.
The whole issue is to by pass the TV to PC converter.
The friday night DJ has thje old mac. Plugs in Analog out put to the converter running 7 plasmas and his works great,.
Any thoughts or anyone playing a gig like this ?
Will this work ?
Mini display to VGA /then VGA to S Video Adapter.
Here is the link, thanks

No, It's the same signal. No way to change that.. What you are describing is 3 totally different screens running off of the computer. Why not just switch between the chat and ssl on the computer screen? That should work fine..

it does but it gets difficult because im not using a 57 so im having to pick my track, mix my tracks audio, mix my tracks video, hold the mix, and flip back and forth between the chat (reading what everyone writes) all in different places....it would be easier for me to be able to glance at the chat on a 2nd screen while im doing all this
DJDaveOtt 8:35 PM - 2 March, 2010
I agree, it would be easier, but I don't know how it could be done...
