Your Dj Ride
Dj K.Smith
5:53 AM 21 February 2010
I know there may have been a thread on what kinda car do you have but I wanna know what car is your dj ride. I'm looking at trading in both my 2003 Sequoia and 2008 Yaris for either a 2010 Honda Pilot (all my gear can fit in that sucka too, we even drove to my house to test it) or a Ford Flex (rated the #3 midsize SUV). The Honda is rated #12 but it's a Honda so it gets a pass...
What are you guys driving and how much gear do you fit in it?

2008 mitsu endeavor, 2004 ford f250, or my favorite of ALL!! 87 k5 blazer.
but i only ever travel with my 1210's in flight cases, and my mixer, laptop, some records and headphones in my backpack. i don't really do mobiles. the few times that i have i took the endeavor and it fits all that plus two tables and my 15inch speakers in the back.

I'm gonna ma e a decision tomorrow after I see what savings I get from my insurance (AAA). If it's substantial from 2 cars to 1 then I'm making a move. One of the choices up there with maybe the Chevy Traverse thrown in there also (rated #2)...

dude, make sure you check out the reliability ratings....american cars can be a great value but they've never really held up in the long run. plus their resale value is crap. what's wrong with your sequoia?
Dj K.Smith
3:50 AM 22 February 2010
I've been researching it latin.... It's highly rated and has a great safety and reliability rating. The Sequoia is fine for a 2003, just a super gas guzzler. I'm just trying to downsize cars and responsibilities (1 is better than 2)....
The Flex is pretty dope dude...

4:21 AM 22 February 2010
well, your review only gave it a 6 out of 10 in reliability....and if you check out the rest of ford's lineup, they don't do much better. my personal experience with american cars has been really bad....inferior materials, bad reliability and resale make them too unattractive to me. I've owned a 2004 sequoia and a 2006 tahoe.....japan>american. but yeah, it is a gas guzzler...
have you checked out that new gmc terrain? I'm a little intrigued by it....don't really know how much room you've actually got for equipment but the 32 mph sounds pretty good...

Remember I'm Black and not rich or Jewish like Michael Basic (inside joke, we do that so don't trip)... Plus I'm not ballin' enough to get that GMC kid... That Flex is sweet. The Honda is pretty much a done deal dude. All I gotta do is go down there and trade in my cars and I roll with the keys. Trying to decide on which one though...

well, I only owned the tahoe cuz it belonged to my wife when we got married....but I traded that fucker in for a toyota...lol! american cars suck more, american trucks so so....I'm intrigued by the gas mileage on this terrain....

It was a hand-me-down from my pops. Never had a problem, other then the ODO hasn't marked a mile since 2001 (which is a good thing! lol). I removed the rear bench and captain chairs that were in the center row.
In there i fit:
2 15" Yamaha Tops
2 18" Yamaha Bottoms
2 10" Mackie Monitors
2 TT's in flight cases
1 10" mixer in flight case
1 6' Folding Table
4 Speaker stands
12 Channel Mixer and 8 mics (just in case)
Wireless mic and kit
4 Shelf Amp rack
Keyboard stand (for the short amp rack)
2 crates of cable and wiring
Lighting and lighting rig
Theres room for an ice chest which i bring to "dry" gigs

My DJ hooptie is a 1998 Chevy Express. It has way more cargo space than I could ever need, but it's a workhorse of a van and it has a security gate between the cab and cargo areas which prevents my equipment from flying around and knocking me the fuck out in an accident or rollover (I gotta stop doing those rollovers, man).
And it once didn't fit in a parking structure because of its height. Worst... gig... experience... ever.
BTW someone here mentioned having their wife, kids, and equipment in their car or SUV. Bad idea. Very bad idea.

Hehe yeah. Even assuming you're a safe driver, the safest of drivers can't always avoid the reckless driving of another person and thus can still be the victim of a rollover accident caused buy someone else.

Really? It does ok for me. Maybe cuz most of my miles are highway. It does give 18mpg for highway miles, depending of course. But there is alot of things that come into play when u talk about gas mileage, including how u drive... like doing above 60mph increases the gas consumption.

Inside it's small. the backseat doesnt come out, it folds down(taking up storage space). spare tire is in back, under rear deck.
compared to a minivan it is much smaller inside. i could stack my subs in a minivan but not in a jeep, the interior height is not nearly as tall as it appears
go to a dealer and look. take a tape measure..

Can fit 2 Cerwin Vega v-35's, 8 crates of records, 2 crates of wires, amp rack, 2 - 12's with flight cases, a flight case for the 56S, and room for a handtruck.
Once I completely convert to vinyl, I don't know what I'm gonna do with all that extra room.

I have a 2006 and I am not a SUV guy I've primarily owned cars, but I got a great deal and was looking for something that would be easy to haul equipment. I haven't had any problems with mine. It is a little smaller than expected but the only thing I have had trouble fitting is the six ft folding table that I use for some mobile gigs. I just told them to provide one and brought my 4ft just in case.

I am well aware of what the acronyms symbolize...BDP > BBD
in my defense, I thought he was refering to the BBD song "do me" where they also say "the J, the I, the M, the M, the Y y'all... (I need a body bag)
From now on, I will try to read the whole post before I jump to any conclusions...
LOL, its all good... FYI, I had KRS ONE on my plates out here in Cali from '88 until '96... Just because my initials are KRS and my love for BDP & KRS 1...

This is true, but I just heard this morning that GM paid it back 5 years early or something like that...
I've never felt comfortable with a Ford...
I've had a Chrysler that was a tank, and 100 years old, and that had it's problems.
I've had a GM with a LOT of problems....also 100 years old.
I've also currently got a '99 Oldsmobile who has had a slew of problems,
The ONLY car I've owned and felt like I've gotten triple my money's worth out of it was my '93 Eagle Talon. - 250,000 Miles on that baby, and was slick lookin' till the day the 2nd Transmission went south.
I loveded that car.
BUT for the first time in a LONG TIME, domestic cars are viewed MORE FAVORABLY than Imports...
I wonder why Toyota...

Didn’t GM get bought out by Fiat?
I have a Chevy... I finally stopped having to bring it back to the dealer after everything except the rims were replaced... There are some GM cars/trucks that i like, but the reputation American cars have and my personal experience has me questioning that.
My outlook, I’d consider an American car if I leased it. If I was going to buy a new car I’d go foreign

My 1st car was a 1988 Ford Escort Gt. It lasted 8 years with little maintenance from me (17 when I got it, lol...)... Then I had a 35th anniversary Mustang (1999) that was the bomb. ZERO problems. Now back for a 3rd time with the Flex... So far so good...

OK. I get what a lot of people are saying.... and I also only read about half of this thread....
but I didn't see anyone say Nissan Xterra or Pathfinder. And I'm surprised because they got rated number 1 in side impacts. We have to protect our equipment too.

I'm driving a full size 1990 Ford E-350 Extended Cargo Van, with a custom made trailer (depending on the size of the gig). My mechanic is the best, so I had the engine tweaked so gas mileage is not that bad. I recommend to anyone to buy used and have the work custom done. It will save you money and you will roll up in a vehicle that's one of a kind.
