I'm thinking of Dabbling in production

Halfrikan 11:09 AM 20 February 2010
Currently Living in Afghanistan and have loads of spare time on my hands, and no turntables. I was thinking of ordering an NS7 to play around with over here but i haven't decided yet. Now i am thinking about trying my hand in some production. But i really have no idea where to start.

What Programs do most people use? And can you learn it without buying a huge dummies guide book? thanks in advance... im getting bored over here and its only been a month.

I would say get yourself a copy of ableton, that way you will be able to sync it to scratchlive when you do get tables again!

Plus there are tons of how to vids on ewetube for it!

my internet over here is so not fast enough for youtube...maybe i'll have someone in the states download the youtube vids and mail them tho me or something... usually i start a youtube video and pause it and then go eat dinner or something and then come back and watch the 3 min video cause the internet is that slow here... thanks though... serato is good with ableton 8 and above right?

as of right now you really can't sync sl to ableton, but sl already reads .asd files and soon there will be the bridge. ableton is a good choice.

now if we could only do something about the taxes.
and i just realized you really didn't get your questions answered. in our studio we have protools and logic, fruity loops, reason, recycle, and ableton. my favorite so far is ableton, it does everything i need it to do and is very easy to learn. if you sit down with it for a week, learn effects, figure out which compressors you like, learn how to cut and slice, it's very useful for production.

I use and love Logic. Also got Reason and Cubase but to start, you could mess with fruityloops. You will eventually hate that Program for the generic sounds but its cool to mess with as a begginer IMO especially for electonic/dance/house music which seems to be the majority when talking about production on this board.

Not saying Im a proffesional but you can peep my youtube channel if you get some decent internet speed @ www.youtube.com
Im still trying to find my own style with influence from different genres and producers.
