LA/OC Food?

djskiggz 1:26 AM - 13 February, 2010
Anyone know any good spots with delicious food?

Places that come to mind:

Roscos chicken n waffles.
DJ Michael Basic 11:01 AM - 13 February, 2010
LA:

Johnny's Pastrami and Titos Tacos...right next to each other. Johnny's has the best chili cheese fries.

If you want to spend some money, go to a fogo de chao. Brazillian BBQ is the shit! 50 bucks for an all you can eat experience. There's one in Beverly Hills

Korean BBQ in K-Town...but you gotta go with a chick who will cook the meat for you.

for italian, try C&O trattoria. They got these garlic balls that are the best bread of any type I've ever had.

Those are my favorite places to eat.

Titos Tacos are good... but expect to be in the restroom soon after eating there. lol
djskiggz 7:40 PM - 13 February, 2010

Even the fact that they decorate the food on every pic with lime and radish doesn´t enhance the food´s looks. Hope it tastes better than the pics look.
Why do they use paper plates for those pics?

Tito's tacos?!?!?!?! That place is horrible. Sixxx, out of all the people, I would expect you to hate on that place. Fake ass mexican food.

I prefer taqueria style food like king taco or Taco Llama in the valley. Love me some al pastor burrito. (no misquote LOL)

I said they were good... not awesome. There's a difference. Of course, I rather eat taqueria style food. Give me some tacos with cilantro, onions & lime juice. Add a little guacamole and radishes on the side.

I'm always down to eat some delicious, hood-looking tacos than some pretty, generic stuff.
dj_KaSE 7:14 PM - 16 February, 2010
If you want pretty, then enjoy the stale shit they have at places like Acapulco's or El Cholo.
Dj-M.Bezzle 7:16 PM - 16 February, 2010
lol we dont have any of that stuff but it all sounds delicious...all we have is fake mexican food (read taco bell) and chain mexican food (still fake mexican food lol)

There's this spot up in Sylmar (Foothill Blvd) were about 3-4 Taco trucks park in the street but the best of them is a truck called Don Cuco's (and also draws the most crowd). The tacos are made with fresh tortillas which makes up the whole taco IMO. Unlike other tacos that the tortilla is properly heated which kills the taco instantly. Not to mention the selection of salsa's they have. The spicy guacamole is the best. The tacos are $1.

They have this other food called "Mulita" it's 2 full size freshly made tortillas packed with cheese and what ever type of meat you like. Kind of like a quesadilla but with meat inside the melting cheese.

ok now I'm starving.........

Man that's two hispanics on this board that recommended iffy mexican food joints.....LOL

Speaking of Sylmar, there's a joint (not sure if it's still there) called Rigos Tacos. I'm the only non-latino I've ever seen in that joint. Their lengua (no homo) burrito is the ish.

Taco Llama is also up there for taqueria joints in the Valley.

Alejandro's in Costa Mesa (right down the street from Sutra), best Carne Asada Fries in OC.

DJ DECK 2:21 AM - 17 February, 2010
@ Boba- yeah its still there. My girl lives up there so I know of some spots to grub but trust that truck over any other spot is a win for sure!!!!

There's another spot called Roca Mar that sells bomb ass Campechanas and other Sea foods. Great for a summer day!!!

Hell Ya! But people pronounce it differently like some say:
"Phillip-es" and others say: "Phill-eeps.

If you want some bomb Chilli Fries or Pastrami sandwiches, check out Arrys in Montebello. They hook it up! Or better yet put some pastrami on the Chilli Fries AKA "DUI" or Bacon on the Chillie Fries AKA "The Heart Attack Special"

Tried these on my quick trip out there and they were the ish! Other stuff on the menu was good too. We don't have this back east, so I really don't have a comparison.

Also had this, make sure to get it double dipped (this is a must). The lamb meat is the best so far, and make sure not to use too much mustard or your sandwich will be ruined.

Also chased down the Kogi BBQ truck, The Buttermilk Truck, and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the early 90's, there were Alberto's places everywhere. It was pretty damn good for a chain if you ask me.

There was this little mexican dude named Chuy I was stationed with whose hometown was actually east LA somewhere. He'd ask for rides home on weekends to spend time with his girlfriend and family before he had a car. In return he'd get me something to eat before my drive back. I don't remember the name of the little corner place but they had what they called the "Garbage Burrito" and that shit was amazing.

I have a general rule for ethnic foods that I think a lot of others probably follow to:
If you want Chinese food, eat where the Chinese go. If you want some good Mexican food, ask some dude named Chuy. Etc, Etc.

Tito's tacos ARE the shit.

I'm not a big fan of the Taquria type taco's although I will eat em. I like mine crunchy and big enough where I don't need to order 4 (nm/nh)

But honestly to pick a favorite mexican spot in LA is one of the hardest things to do. Every city has THE spot to eat.

Where I grew up there's a place called Diana's that everyone goes to. It's probably my all time favorite spot to eat mex food. Beside my mom & grandmas cooking of course.

Check out the latest edition of Saveur magazine. All about Los Angeles food. The cover says "our tribute to teh ultimate food city: dazzling chefs, great tacos, heavenly pizza, classic cocktails, and more". It also has "how to eat and drink like a local in L.A.".

Taco Rosa in Tustin is AWESOME!!! The place is really nice. I always get the Carne Asada Alambre & their home made Sangrias (Best sangrias I ever had).

This place used to be very authentic, but I went for Valentines Day and they changed it a bit. Their food is still pretty good, but their salsas are weak. They used to be really good but now they are way americanized. WTF is Mango Salsa? That shit don't go with Mexican food. lol They have a loyalty card, that is 50% off the bill. I have one! hehehe Their brunch is more like american food than mexican. :(

If you're down for some HARDCORE Mexican food, you'll have to drive deep into the barrios and go into the hole in the walls.

BEST CARNITAS EVER!!!! Have to go to EL TORO in SANTA ANA...
That place is serious business. Just check out the reviews in Yelp.com to see what you're getting into. This place is not for the faint of heart. It's deep in the middle of Santa Ana, but I guarantee you that you will not regret it. Food is take out only, and they have their own tortilla factory that sells the tortillas to the stores & markets. You can ask them for fresh tortillas right off the tortilleria.

El Toro has a TJ style liquor store next to it where you can buy a six pack, and they will package it in a bag of ice, with limes & a salt shaker. Now that's awesome!

If you're in that area, try a spot called Nuno Bros. (off of standard and mcfadden, santa ana)
They make everything fresh there. They make their own flour tortillas, mexican cheese, mexican cream (no homo), all from scratch. Burrito supreme is da business. They don't fuck around when it comes to making hot salsa either. Get the mild or you won't be able to taste the burrito haha. They got all that other shit too like, tortas and combos too. They got a panaderia next door so you can bring your mom some of that bread she likes.
Steve Dub. 8:50 PM - 22 February, 2010
If your looking for hole in the wall Mexican food then make your way down to Wilmington. Bring a vest though.

Nah! She was trying to show how big the tacos are. They're as big as a dollar bill.
