hello, i have a problem with my serato not reading all my music i have in my external hard drive, it only loads certain files and not the rest. ive tried dragging them down but everytime i turn off serato it doesnt save anything when i open again. i was reading on the forums and there was talk about copying the sub crate files but all the post are about pc and not mac. when i try and look on my mac for those sub crates folders they are not there so i believe its different for mac, not sure. was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to what i need to do in order for my mac to read all my music files on my external hard drive. thank you for your help in advance.

I'm not experiencing the same issues as you are, but I'm in the process of moving my entire collection on to an external drive. File organization has been the biggest learning curve thus far since switching from vinyl.

Hi m421 - what format is your external drive? Fat32, NTFS etc?
And what file format are these files that you can't see?

my external drive is set up as NTFS. i while back ago i converted it so i could upload files bigger then 7gb to it at once. ( i did the conversion on a pc and i now use my drive on a mac. Also my music files seem to be a majority of mp3 files collected from a torrents and music pools, from the looks of it the music from the music pools seems to load.

If your hard drive is NTFS format, then it will only be able to save changes made on a PC, not Mac. You will need to back up everything on your external drive elsewhere, then reformat the drive to something which is Mac compatible, e.g. Fat32 - then you will be able to save any changes you make. Whilst it is formatted as NTFS, it is read only, not read and write.

also i looked and my other audio files are mpeg4, m4a. i can load all my files if i do it manually through serrato and browse my drive for the files the only thing about that is it takes a long time and doesn't save it, like you said ntfs is not letting me r&w them on my mac.

Yeah, you'll definitely need to backup and reformat your drive for it to work correctly. You won't be able to save your overviews, cues, loops etc until you do.
