I own the 56 and I love it. The only thing I hate about it is connecting the serato box to it. All the cables sicking out look nasty. Anyways, Im getting a good return on my taxes and am thinking about buying the 57. Ive seen a lot of people posting a lot of different problems with the 57. Is that because they dont take care of the mixer or because its straight out messed up right out the box? The cross fader is another thing people have issues with. They say its not the same cross fader as the 56. ANd its not as smooth either.
Any if is greatly apprecaited. Thanks in advance.

If you're used to the 56, then you won't really find a whole lot of difference with the 57. The one recurring issue that some people have been having is with the buttons on the mixer. Some users have reported that the buttons become unresponsive over time. This can normally be corrected by cleaning the buttons as needed, depending on how and where you use it.
The fader issue will be the same as what you experience with your 56. I have owned my 56 since 2002 and I have never had to clean the fader, but I do keep a bottle of "fader lube" just in case I need it for my 56 or 57.
Others on here will probably have a different opinion on it but in my case, I haven't had any of the above mentioned problems, nor did I expect to. I bought my 57 for one of the reasons that you mentioned above. The box is built in and you also hardly ever need to touch the computer again. You can control ScratchLive directly from the mixer and it also has built -in effects.
Good luck on your decision...

Mine has worked out perfect. I feel it was well worth the money spent and havent had any issues with it. Perfect for not touching the computer yet I still find myself in the habit. If you can make the stretch with the dough, I recommend it.
The 57 has actually become a huge part of my whole setup and without it I feel naked. It has been hard doing normal day life knowing I have a setup waiting for me to play with. So with that said, My 57 sees about 5 hours a day of play.

I've never had any "buyer's remorse" about any Rane mixers that I've owned. The only reason I ever parted with my TTM54 was because of the TTM56. When the TTM57 came out I kept the 56 and I use both. I love the fact that I don't have to touch the computer when I'm using the TTM57 unless I need to do a quick search for a specific song. Not to mention the fact that I'm doing all this with using up only one USB port.

Here's a little something to consider: "Officially" the TTM57 can only be repaired by Rane. You cannot take it to your local electronics repair company and have them take a look at it. There are privacy/copyright issues w/ the mixer and Rane will not give outside repair shops the schematics to the mixer.
Now, I say "officially" because there are many gurus out there that can fix anything themselves, but in order to maintain the warranty, only Rane can work on this mixer. This only applies to the TTM57 right now and probably the 68 in the future because of the integration of SSL w/ the mixer(s).
I understand the reason, and agree that maybe they should be the only one who can repair "THIS" mixer, I just wish I knew before I had to pay the $50 estimate for my local shop to look at it. Guess I shoulda read the manual!!!

So wait, if I buy it at guitarcenter or pssl.com should I get the extended warranty there or dont buy it?? how long is the mixer under warranty?

My wife bought me the mixer almost three years ago and didn't buy the warranty. I had to get it done on my own. If you listen to any consumer economics guru they'll tell you that most extended warranties are a bad decision. I usually buy the warranty on anything over $200. Wish I woulda asked my wife for the warranty papers when she bought the mixer...didn't think of it till almost three years later.

you can get the extended warranty from a store yourself if you want, but you get a 3 year manufacturer warranty from rane if you register your product

no regrets but the layout for the built in efx suck...you have to press too many buttons to get to the menu and sometimes those damn B buttons can stick and not trigger the effect. (and yes I have cleaned the B buttons with the lube RANE recommends.)

flex fx and midi mapping help to make them a little more usable...

it takes 2 button presses to get to the effects, not a big deal!
and like most said, if you already have a 56, you'll love the 57. pretty similar except for a bit higher quality audio, xlr out, and of course you're mappable buttons and knobs

been using it for over a year, best mixer i have ever used. if you become proficient with this mixer you will never want another.
con - i have seen with this and other newer rane mixers (56s) that the cut in on all 3 faders maybe fairly long. caused by the magnetic elements on the fader boards being tilted inward ever so slightly. if you see this performance as well please look through the forum for guidance on correcting. i have done it with mine and a friends. after adjustment the faders are flawless.

So far, I just got my first Rane Product TTM57 and I love it. It's different for me and im new to the scratch live, so Im learning everything. Gonna take it with me to Afghan since Ill be there for 13 months. Lets hope the mixer and Denon 3700 survives the Seabag toss! When I went to Iraq, I managed to get my LCD and Xbox 360 to survive the Seabag toss! If I can get a LCD 19" to survive it, im sure I can get the equipment to survive. Wish me luck, gonna take lots of undies and sox to pad it.

I love my mixer. The right joystick sticks downwards if i press it down all the way, but I think I know why, there is some sort of little round pimple like pieace attached to the base of the joystick from the inner part of the mixer above. Its not on the other one, so i think its the reason, since it is plastic. Oh, and the bottom isn't leveled well, so it has a little wobble, lol. I don't care about these little things really, since the mixer will hang off the tt cases and the retarded joystick is an easy fix.

I have owned the TTM57 since its release, and have been happy with it. Faders are rock solid. I have noticed a loss of response in the b buttons as known.
Despite road case care and recommended cleaning practices, I have lost faith in the precision of those buttons for important live cue firing.
When general midi support came out It was then that i outsourced alot of those performance functions to a small midi keyboard.
It leaves me with the b buttons free to manage groups like FX which (IMO) is horribly un-ergonomic.
It has occurred to me that a SL standalone box + a good alternative mixer + a midi interface is at equals to the ttm57.
This arrangement also adds a benefit of dependability - as opposed to the TTM57 - too many eggs (components) in one basket (ttm57)
Though none of us enjoy carrying around 3 items, connecting them, make sure they work, etc, when one will do.
that all said, I love my TTM57, and nothing is perfect.

I honestly think the convenience of not having the extra box and space is worth it...yes I know that would be a pricey thing for a 56 and a serato box...750 and 540=1290...but then I get then difficult to get to effects and "some" midi functionality...for my money nothing beats it...If it didnt have the effects or the midi buttons id still be all over it...but that plus video and the bridge if you want...please....you cant beat this mixer....

Used my TTM57 steady since August '09 and developed the "sticky buttons" issue as well. Read on here about the issue and despite being careful to wash dirty hands before playing and keep a cover on after use- it's happened : (
Followed one persons advice on here and used the Deoxit Gold method before it got any worse and noticed a little better response again. Hope that helps! -PEACE

Anyone have any idea as to why that's happening?
