Anyone get their technics decks repaired there? How's the service? Am I better off taking my deck to 1200's.com in Brooklyn?
djaction 2:26 PM 8 February 2010
bump
Gamble 2:43 PM 8 February 2010
i wouldn't recommend it, their repair work can be kind of shoddy.
Gamble 2:44 PM 8 February 2010

I'm not sure if turntable lab does repairs. Didn't see anything on their website.

if you guys need repairs in the NY/NJ area...hit up my boy Phillee Blunt. He's DOPE at what he does. rewires, internal grounding, platter speeds, tone arm issues..etc. I have him look at mine every year or so.

DJBIGWIZ 6:05 PM 8 February 2010
I had mine fixed there about 11 yes ago and they are still runnibg great. The guy did a real good job. They were better than they were when they were new.
DJ Rugged One 7:45 PM 8 February 2010
I recently had mine repaired at Rock & Soul NYC and I co-sign with Big Wiz(What up mang !!!) The guy did a good job.
DJBIGWIZ 8:27 PM 8 February 2010
what up R

yea, the guy there (Zoltan or Zoltar... something like that.. if he's still the guy fixing tables there) has been fixing 1200's for ever and he even added a reverse switch on mine.
djtrixxxx 8:44 PM 8 February 2010
I called to get an estimate for the repair I need and they didn't want to give me an estimate over the phone or give me the repair guys name. They said they have a few guys that do repairs and I have to bring the turntable in to get an estimate. At least 1200s.com was able to give me a estimate for a tone arm replacement over the phone
DJBIGWIZ 11:20 PM 8 February 2010
that sucks... they do good work but it's crazy they wont give you any info
Jordan Laws 2:31 AM 9 February 2010
yeah rock and soul is dope if they still have that german dude working there. But he only repairs like mon-fri. sometimes you can get same day with them. Ahh how I miss the old rock and soul it used to be jewlery on the left when you walked in, then going to the back. the crib underground & killa kut bootlegs on the floor. If you didnt ask shirley if you could open a record they would all yell at you the moment you tried like some 6th sense. Satudays at 1 when UPS arrived. insanity. Gobi selling you a great deal if you paid cash he would knock out the tax and give you 10 percent off. I got some great gear there that really helped me. first pair of 1200's came from there and I still have them to this day. How I miss those days
DJJOHNNYM_vSL3 1:15 PM 9 February 2010
I actually sold the black guy there, ( I forgot his name), my 56, so I could get my 56S! They're cool people, and that one Russian (sp?) chick got sexy lips!

or maybe you're talking about her daughter or something. she aint that hot neither. lol.

going back to the repair thing. i brought mine to satellite records on the bowery like 6-7 years ago. dude hooked it up for like 60 bucks. permanently grounded my tables, thru in some monster cables and calibrated the motor. both tables. 60 bucks!

i dont know if theyre still there though. is satellite records still around?

I think his name is Henry. That russian chick played me one day while I was playing a record in the back. She thought I opened an album so she shut the turntable off and yelled at me from the other side of the room. She felt dumb when I showed her that it was a single that was already opened.

Yeah Phil hooked my tables up a while ago. Internal ground, new RCA's etc. He does good work. You'll def be satisfied.
DJ Benny B NYC 10:03 PM 9 February 2010
Actually she tried to get me the other day. I went in to buy one of those usb mixers and the price was $200. The guy behind the counter agreed to give it to me for $185. He went to get it and the old lady went to ring me up.

Old Lady: That'll be $217.
Me: How'd you get to $217? He said $185.
OL: Tax.
Me: There's no $30 tax on $185.
OL: Ok, $212.

Finally I got her to the correct price. Hilarious.

ahh yess.. i remember the days of opening up records and trying to hear them, back when i was 13 or so. good times. i used to get yelled at all the time and be forced to buy them.

i remember they had this one skinny black dude sorting the records, i fcking hated his ass. everytime i asked him for something he would give me some dumb ass reply. i always chumped him. i would say things like, 'wtf are you good for then!!!' hahahah fckin asshole!!
agentorange 3:37 PM 10 February 2010
not for nothing though, rock and soul usually does hook it up with the prices. they been there for a long time, selling vinyl since '72 or something. sucks they condensed everything into just a couple of sections now. i remember they used to have vinyl all the way out to the mixer section.

ahh memories.

I'm talking about the one who SORTS THE RECORDS, not the older one in the front.

Actually, the older one SOLD ME BOTH the 56 & 56S.

The record guy wanted a 56, and when I wanted to "trade" my 56 in, in classic Rock and Soul fashion, they wouldn't give a price over the phone, so when I got there, they gave me some BS price, and I was like AWWW HELL NAW, and was about to walk out.

Then the Record guy said, how much do I want for it, (I still had the original packaging, manuals, and receipt!), the mixer was CLEAN, so he knew I took care of it, so I told him, he "bought" it from me, and that "credit" was applied to the 56S, and we were all happy campers.

Well Shirley Owns it, she is mean only if she knows you then she is cool, Then, Sharron she was the older daughter she got married had a kid, and then shelly she is the youngest but I think she got preggers recently too. There is rubin who has been working there forever and mike who used to work between r&S and also beatstreet and then wayy way back in like 97 there was another mike with dreads who always hooked it up. It's kinda sad that the only way for me to interact with other DJs is social networks, message boards or gigs.

I have nothing of significance to add to this thread except for, Johnny M isn't just as old as dirt.... he's OLDER than dirt.... Now gimme your record collection.
agentorange 1:37 AM 12 February 2010
yeah the older with locks was my dude. he always knew what dancehall track i was tryin to sing back like in 96/97. it was weird cause i used to him helpin a brother out, and then they got that other dude sortin the records and he was pretty much the exact opposite.

question: anybody ever went upstairs???

I get mine looked at every year just for regular maintenance.... check out the signal ib both the RCA's & the tone arm..check out the rotation of the platter...check to see if speed is at true 0 and if the control works right... I use the turntables a lot so might as well treat em right.

My turntable is currently there for repair. new tone arm being installed. Right now, the only drawback I see is servie is a little slow. Took 2 weeks just to look at the problem and now waiting for the part. Should be done by the end of this week according to them. So 3 weeks for tone arm replacement.

Does any one remember the heavy set light skin black girl who i think was in charge of the house music, she knew every single groove in that section and always let me know where the good stuff was hiding.
I miss those days buying vinyl diggin through crates.

Was that before the black dude with the dreads was there? I remember him being the guy for house. All you needed to do was ask him what was hot for the week and before you know it, you had 80 bucks worth of records in your hands.
Djfrank49 3:57 PM 26 February 2010
the sad part is i was there so often and don't really know any of there names.
