Hey,
Ive searched to find if this has been suggested already, but i dont think it has. I was wondering if it is possible for SSL to detect what kind of input you are using, either phono or line level (vinyl or cd).
It should be fairly easy to detect, as phono and line voltage levels are different, it would mean that you could switch between using decks and cd's easily, without having to re-configure.
What does everyone think?

Great idea, man. Would also help those who are new to SSL a lot of frustration ;)

It doesnt have anything to do with ticking the box being tough.
The reason I suggested it was that it would be useful if you could have a hardware switch box to allow you to switch between CD decks and vinyl decks to allow you to use a CD or vinyl on channel 1 and CD or vinyl on channel 2, thus, if you wanted to use features on a CD deck, or you'd prefer to use vinyl, you could have the choice, rather than having to have the whole interface setup to use either CD OR Vinyl, but not both at the same time.

If SSL detect CD or Phono input, what should be happen when we stop the cd player ?
There is no signal , so no voltage, and SSL should think it's vinyl, and should switch the input to phono mode ?

theoretically, if you're using the cd control signal and version 2 of the vinyl, this suggestion would easily be possible.

what to you think to change from software phono or line as our pleasure input 1 separetly from imput 2.... do you think will be possible?
in this case a can carry 1 CD and 1 TT and choose from vinyl-cd or files from my computer!!!

I think it's more easy to use a preamp for Phono, and select line in the setup.
Or
I think it's more easy to use a attenuator for CD, and select phono in the setup.

totally agree here...if you're CD based, using an attenuator you'll just lose sound quality.

Can you please clarify, what is not possible, the auto input detection, or setting left and right channel to different phono/line settings at all?

I think the setting phono/line independently isn't possible. The auto input detection based on level just wouldn't work for practicaly reasons, fast spin backs could cause the system to switch levels.

what if this auto input detection was done in the setup screen, like a button similar to the threshold estimate button?

Haha, if you push the button, then why not pushing the "line/phono" button instead ;)

ooops. i misread this thread, thought it was the phono on 1 channel line on 1 channel thread.

i don't think i'm making that up? i thought someone wanted to use 1 turntable (@phono) and 1 cdj (@line) and wanted ssl to figure it out.

Setting one side to phono and one side to line is not possible.
