HELP Me Upgrade My System ...

reelsteelz 3:45 AM 27 January 2010
Check it right, iM trying to upgrade my system. I was using a ghetto home amp & speaker combo just to get me by, but, the other morning when I went to practice, my amp is reading PROTECTION MODE. Nothing is working!!! From what iM told, my amp is a wrap.

Here's the deal, I just recently bought a QSC GX5 amp. Now iM thinking that I just got to get some suitable speakers from here. The other day, I was at a bar, whom got this set up with their sound system with the same amp, but, I see they got what I believe is a crossover joint. From my research, it looks like its needed.

iM not technically savvy, so please help. Give me some good set up suggestions that you would recommend built around my QSC GX5 amp? iM not working with a lot, but iLL worry about the credit card bill later. I want to set up something economical & able to be mobile with and BUMP a nice size cookout, houseparty, and also a decent size hall. If anybody on heRRRe that got equipment relative to what iM looking for for sale _plz HOLLA

first things first... protection mode is not a bad thing... it could be as simple as a speaker cable that is loose. if you were to unplug a speaker and the pos and neg touch, poof protection mode clicks on and everything turns off.

#2 crossover... if you have more than just a pair of speakers, you need a crossover. (example if you want to run subs)

something like this if you are looking for thump

www.guitarcenter.com

I dont see your amp being able to power something that has a lot of thump to it...

personally i would get a pair of speakers for the amp like the first link, and if you're looking at doing a decent size party get this

www.guitarcenter.com

decent sound, a lot of bass, and you dont need an additional amp

@free man For the B52 set up, would I need the crossovers for that set up since it comes with the sub or not? Now that I have a clearer idea, iM a step to guitar center & get a hear for 'em.

Lets say that I can make a return for my amp since it sounds like you saying its kind of weak, what would be ideal (able to bump a house party/hall/or nice sized outdoor backyard cookout & decent enough to practice @the crib wit) but economical (on a budget, not trying to break the bank, BUT ...) at the same time in your opinion PLZ?

no cross over needed. look around for a good price so that GC will match it for you.

one of the probs with doing stuff outside is that its hard to get the same thump that you can get inside... if its just a back yard, i think that the B-52 system has plenty of thump for you. I think it has an 18" sub

Your key word that i'm focusing on though is budget. for the money I personally think that you cant beat it...

for me to say get something else would mean you're going to spend at least another grand... maybe 2
