Look for a used Ecler Nuo 4, not the 4.0, if you want a decent priced good quality mixer you can use with VSL.

I know the company makes bottem end geat but watch some videos and reviews and they said it was actually not too bad and a bang for the buck.
I know its not a perfessional level mixer but just geting into video so though hum just to start off with.
But ya guess imma take that back n look out for a Ecler Nuo 4.
Used a safe way to go?

I'm sure there will be many mixers this year with midi built in. I wouldn't be suprised to see a 300 mark.

the 800 even used would be way over my budget and the ecler n korg are aalready way over my limites i have to start selling stuff to get the money.
how much would 4 blue ortofon concorde's go for???

a 57 can be had for about 3 gigs worth of cash. same with an 800. if you're planning on doing more than just DJing parties in your bedroom, you should be able to spring for either of these mixers and make your money back pretty quick.

Guys, i think the crossfader is outputting MIDI ONLY, not controlling midi and audio.
The audio is being controlled via midi.
That's my guess.

Although I don't recommend Behringer as a quality product (more of a value product) I will say they have one of the best warranties in the business. Fader doesn't work b/c you mucked it up trying to modify it? They will send you a brand new one!
When I worked in pro-audio, they would literally replace an entire 18" subwoofer cabinet because the $0.50 bi-amp switch was broken.

Thing is - if it's a simple mod then why not. I have stripped my DDM already because something sounded loose. It was just one of the metal rings that bind some wires which needed to be re-glued it to the base of the mixer and lubed the faders while I was in there. Theres nothing much to it.

greetings bedroom DJs.. since spending so much time in your bedroom it's strange how u couldn't get ddm4000 crossfading video and audio simultaniously. Behringer is a piece of crap, but when cosidering digital components, there's not much difference between behringer, pioneer and rane... same wires and plastic included... and comparing to previous behringers, ddm4000 is a big step forward... it's just the name that decrases price.. I was a bit sceptic when had to work with one of tose before crowds of 2000, but after it all went with any bit problem, i started respecting that product... it's all made in china...

well - this is what he did (in theory) and if anyone knows their way around electronic stuff - holla with directions on how it's actually done.
it's actually pretty simple, feel terribly dumb for not having thought about it earlier...
basically confuse the mixer so that it sends the midi signal from one of the channels to the crossfader that way, the crossfader keeps doing audio and you assign the video crossfader to an unused channel of the mixer (of which you have diverted to the crossfader)
end result - you lose one fader on the mixer but your DDM4000 is instantly transformed into a DJM800 that will crossfade video and audio at the same time :) lol

well - this is what he did (in theory) and if anyone knows their way around electronic stuff - holla with directions on how it's actually done.
it's actually pretty simple, feel terribly dumb for not having thought about it earlier...
basically confuse the mixer so that it sends the midi signal from one of the channels to the crossfader that way, the crossfader keeps doing audio and you assign the video crossfader to an unused channel of the mixer (of which you have diverted to the crossfader)
end result - you lose one fader on the mixer but your DDM4000 is instantly transformed into a DJM800 that will crossfade video and audio at the same time :) lol
huh..

If anyone is interested in how A-Spitta did the mod on the ddm4000 hit me up I got the info from him yesterday and tried it out . it works like a charm. Basically as some others members have stated you are tricking the mixer to use one fader ( the crossfader )to drive two midi inputs on the mixer. by removing one volume fader and putting it in parallel with the cross fader you are able to control video and audio with the cross fader. I can give further instructions and pics outside of this forum

Your a funny guy Dj M Bezzle , but me and others really want to know how to do this so we can be up and running. Im in iIraq right now and really dont have that much time to get on the net and all of that type of stuff. So when I come on here to this section im trying to get tips not jokes. 15-30 minutes of net times sucks especcially when your waiting for something and its bullsh1t in the end. Dont want to sound hostile but can someone please put up the instructions on this matter. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delay guys I was kinda busy all yesterday. go to this link on youtube Watchwww.youtube.com It is kinda cheesy but I dindnt have much time to put it together. If you don't know about electronics i would not suggest opening your mixer, and if you are still under warranty you will void your warranty. Good luck

Does midi still work on the corresponding channel i.e. the kill buttons / EQ knobs etc?
I use these for Cue points and wouldn't want to loose it. Logic says they should still work but I just wanna confirm.

I agree,
this is the only missing link to my set up, going to try it. But i have never soldered anything in my life, but i'm going to try. worse case is that i won't have a line fader, but i can put in a info fader if it all goes south.

I did mine a couple of days ago and it was really easy. The only issue i had was removing the fader from the circuit board. I also found that it is better to use the wire that comes in a cat5 cable. They are really thin and gold plated. I really didn't like leaving the channel without a fader and decided to use hot glue to put it back in place without connecting it.

By cat5 you talking about an ethernet cable right?
Yep ethernet cable. The reason I used that cable is because its really thin and easy to bend. Its also color coded to help with connecting things to the right place. What i did was cut open a cat 5 cable and took out 3 strans of cable, two of them the same color and one with a different color. I used the the same color strands to connect the top connection points of the fader and the other for the bottom right connection point of the fader. Like i said before the hardest part was removing the fader from the mainboard. If I had to do it again I would of just clipped the fader connection points from under the fader instead of removing them from the mainboard. I just wanted to save the fader just in case i wanted to put things back the way they were. But now that i know this works I wouldn't waist time trying to remove it properly.

to be honest i could afford a 57, but my wife would kill me, if i came in with a 57LOL LOL
we are in the process of trying to buy a house. I was able to get the MBP under the wire so to speak which set me back a few stacks. so it's better to spend 4 now, mod the mixer, get the house,do some gigs, then maybe get the 57 down the road.
That's just a grown man thing, or just a good husband, who doesn't want to be in the dog house thing. LOL LOL. but it's all good. the ddm4000 is just going to be for in the house video mixing, still need more items to make it work for mobile gigs( good projector, screen, etc..) so i'm just stocking up on videos just for my own personal enjoyment. so $400 is a good entry price to mess around with.

Please post so i can see what yours looks like and that i works. i used Fader 3 on the mixer to do the mod

5:38 PM - 27 April, 2010
Yep. What I did was i clipped the fader off the mainboard because its a hassle to remove the solder of the connection points. Trust me once your done with this mod you will never want to put that fader back on. I recommend removing the 4th channel because there is more space to work when soldering. I hated putting the mixer back with a missing fader, so what i did was bent the connectors on the bottom of the fader towards the fader and glued the fader in place with hot glue. I put everything back together and it looks like nothings ever been modified. I used Cat5 ethernet cable for the soldering.

5:41 PM - 27 April, 2010

I sold pro audio gear for many years..... Behringer is all the same. CHEAAAP crap built in their "mini-city factory" in China. Every piece of equipment is a cheap knock-off of a similar brand name product. Mixers, speakers, EQs, cross overs, effects units, you name it. Signal to noise is horrible, faders are all horrible, gain pots are noisy and perform terribly, all the components (guts) are the cheapest available version....
But, for the price, it works. You get what you pay for with Behringer, literally. Every time.
The DDM-4000 works, it has some cool features, but please don't ever compare to a Pioneer or Rane. If you think they sound comparable, you are probably using Behringer speakers.

Do your home work and then comment on the 4000.I sold pro audio gear for many years..... Behringer is all the same. CHEAAAP crap built in their "mini-city factory" in China. Every piece of equipment is a cheap knock-off of a similar brand name product. Mixers, speakers, EQs, cross overs, effects units, you name it. I agree that behringer's other mixers are crap but the DDM4000 has been nothing but pleasure for me. I'm currently saving for a 57 but I'm still gonna keep my DDM4000 as a backup. I just love it.
There have been countless occasions where I used my DDM4000 instead of Pioneer DJM 600's... I just seen so many pioneers in bad condition - is it the product or how it's been treated? Whatever the reason, seen too many...

exactly.... I'm not saying don't buy it. Behringer is a great price point product. It mixes, it has midi, it has a cool dual fx engine.... There are just some people that claim it it to be an "awesome" mixer, when it is average at best.
For the price, it is tough to beat, I'll give it that.

DDM4000 crossfader modification with the innofader/Standard fader
Ok so here is my contribution. I will start from the beginning is there is anyone here who missed the first video uploaded…
Overview:
The DDM4000 cannot process midi and audio at the same time by default. So with the help of DJ Fafa, A-spitter & Mad21 – this is now possible.
As stated above, one of the volume (up/line) faders need to be routed to the cross fader & set to send midi.
Caution: Please do not try this if you are not experienced with working with PCB’s/electronics.
Step 1:
Remove the cross fader, all fader knobs and outer screws.

Step 2:
Lift the board and unplug all cables\ribbons between the base the and board.

Step 3:
Remove all screws holding the faceplate to the PCB.
Step 4:
De-solder one of your line faders from the board. Please use a de-soldering iron or pump to do it properly.

Step 5:
Solder 3 wires to the top points and bottom right point…

Step 6:
I joined extension wires to the wires going from the board to the crossfader as I didn’t want to solder anything to my innofader adapter board.

Step 7:
Join\solder the wires in the following config:
Top Left (Line fader) to Black right pin (outer)
Top Right (line fader) to RED left pin (Outer)
Bottom Right (Line fader) to Black pin (middle)

a club owned a behringer mixer, told me to work with it. I had to turn the master volume, channel volume and eq's all the way up to achive the same audio output as half on a similar pioneer mixer. thats all it took for me to understand that these mixers were cheaply made and garbage imo.

I don't know, I've always used vestax at home, but traveled with a Behringer because clubs beat my equipment up. It worked fine for me for analog mixing. Not the nicest.
I hear American Audio has a sweet mixer out there too.
If you want to DVJ, you'll want a separate midi controller for blending.

One thing i noticed with the mod. Sometimes when you bring the fader all the way to the left or right, the video doesn't finish transiting. SO thats not a good thing.

Does the on-screen fader take time to catch up to the crossfader? I noticed this happening on mine when trying to figure which wires to join.

On DJ FAFA's youtube video that dude didn't remove any faders on the mixer at all and he does the demo without problems, of course the dude is brazilian maybe doesn't understand english and he doesn't return emails on how to do this stuff, I tried doing mine but I noticed that after removing the fader on the left side the FULL FREQ yellow LED doesn't turn on nor the HIGH, however the MID and LOW are fine
Last but not least my crossfader works inverted GRRRR!!! CRAP!!!
any ideas?

I seriously doubt he was able to do it without taking out one of the faders. I removed my fader from my main board but used hot glue to put the fader in place so that it would look like all my faders are still there. I think DJ FAFA might have done something similar.

well I'm going to comment on my first failure I experienced while using Video SL... Everyone knows that Macbook Pro's only have 2 USB ports, well I went ahead and bought one of those unpowered 1 to 4 USB extensions so I went ahead and connected my serato box and my midi controller into that piece of crap...
when all of the sudden right in the middle of my set shit hit the fan, the audio went out and the circles wouldn't respond anymore, of course I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked for another 15 minutes before it went out again, so at the time I didn't know it was because it drew a lot of power from the USB port of my Mac... meanwhile some drunk idiots shouted THE DJ SUCKS or they would BOO me which made me feel like getting off the booth and beat the shit out of them cuz first of all they have no freakin idea what the hell is going on, I kept my cool unplugged both wires and decided to move on with serato box plugged directly into my Mac leaving the MIDI out of the question, from that point on it never went out...
Then I figured then it was the USB, so I went ahead bought a "POWERED" USB Hub and I'm planning to return in full force to make up for what happened last week... I learned from my mistake and now I'm ready for Round 2
I never thought for one second that a 5 dollar piece of crap from eBay would almost ruin my gig.
Cheers!

Is more easyer behringer release a firmware to fix this problem than do the changes only for 2 channels .

i agree with you pedropt... a firmware update would be a good start. If that is possible
Can't figure for the hell of it why they would not want the audio to work. Must have been deliberate on their part.
@djnak - unfortunately not all of us can afford to get real equipment no matter how hard we save up. Sure the 57 would be ideal none of this fuss.
I live in Jamaica - can only buy what we can afford. US361 for the behringer (shipping to jamaica) CIF (cost + insurance + shipping) duties 20% of CIF GCT = 17.5% of CIF landing = 22% = $400US
so basically 800US for the behringer to get it to Jamaica (price pretty much doubled)
Now imagine the 57s for 1500US - so paying after taxes and shipping (at least US$2,600 or more).
shitty perhaps but necessary
