basically a field next to each track (in a column i mean) to count how many times u have actually used a song. so after many many gigs, u can look at all the songs, sort out the onces that you dont really use and delete. so u dont waste disk space on songs u dont use. sort of like leaving records home cuz they take up valuable record bag space!
also, i dont know if this is possible, but if u delete a song from a crate, have an option to delete it from the "All" crate as well, in case u want it deleted completely.

Nah. I wouldn't throw away the records that I didn't use that much. Or digital tracks in this matter. There might be an occasion where you need exactly that file...Space isn't really an issue. Throwing away a record is completly another thing than leaving it at home.
Why not delete it from the All directly? I like the possibility to still have the file in my library even if I delete it from a crate. If you suddenly need that song, you know, you don't wanna go through your entire HD just to find it.

yea, but there's gotta be at least 1 track that uve got there that's just NOT gonna get played! and i never suggested 'throwing away a record'! God forbid i ever throw away any record! with me, i rip albums that ive just bought, load it up, and nowadays u get albums 15 songs deep yet only 5 or so worthy ones.... eventually if u dont delete ure gonna have a harddrive thats 70% of wanted tracks & 30% of tracks u dont/barely touch.... i know u could delete it from the 'All' crate but then you have to go looking for all the songs and delete them some at a time. and not everyone sorts there tracks out the same, or tags them the same. so it could be as simple as implementing a 'Shift-Delete' or something that means if u delete from a crate u delete completely from the SSL library.

Well, if you have a big enough HD, that isn't really a problem, is it? Good idea though. I see what you're getting at.

yea, its not like there is a major problem with my HD space now... but u never know, u might just keep piling up the songs and eventually ure gonna have to either get a new harddrive, get an external one if ure on a laptop, or delete! :)

Yeah, I know what you're saying. Recently got an external though ;)

I hate having to carry more and more equipment with me, esp. I hate all those cables... So I try avoid using an external drive, when I am spinning with my laptop, which means keeping my tracklist to a managable size is important. Also if you think about backupping stuff its important not to clutter up your whole hard disk with all tracks you have/own.

I think You can see Yourself what files do You use and what You not. There could be some extra option (but not on main screen be cause it would be unnecesary and waisting free space on screen) that would show You diagram from most often played to played only once or never.
Files change colour after first playing. From whit to green. Is there option to make them change colour everytime, on every start of SSL? It would be nice option to open SSL, start playing and all files You played would change colors so You can see what You played and what You still didnt.

i really need this feature, recently ive been adding sounds and samples to seperate crates. These samples are for scratching, and i tend to import a whole bunch at once, go thru em and scratch em to see if they are scratch worthy. i then delete the ones i dont like, but its a pain to locate them in the ALL crate then delete them that way. If there was a way that you could press something like CTRL Delete (or something) that deletes the file completely from whichever crate you are in as well as the ALL crate, this would make my day!

hey, i think im the only 1 gunning 4 these features..... im really hoping these r at least being considered. i have been loading up a crap load of samples (horns, guitars, synths etc), then sorting thru the 1s i wanna keep & then going thru the annoying steps of locating the 1s that i dont wanna keep in the ALL CRATE, then deleting them (very tedious). my band & i r about 2 start up again, & this is y these 2 features that i have suggested would b really useful. For club/scratch/bedroom DJ's, i think these features would also b useful in that u may decide 2 sort out ure crate, & delete songs u dont wanna use. u could use the track counter 2 decide which tracks r rarely used, then u could use the all delete (basically 2 delete from the crate ure in, AND the ALL CRATE) 2 delete completely from just within ure SSL library (not from the HD) in 1 step.
could a mod shed some light as 2 whether these features r at least being considered?!?!? pretty please?!?!?!?! with a cherry on top?!?!?!

i just thought of this this morning. how about when u delete a track from a crate, the track pops up in a temporary "Trash" crate. If you then proceed to delete from this crate, it will delete from the ALL crate. If you leave it in there, then close SSL, the songs will be retained in the ALL crate, but will be deleted from the crates that you deleted the tracks from in the 1st place.
And since ive posted on this thread for the last 3-4 times consecutively - i know feel like im talking to myself.

I Fully Agree with you KMXE. I Use a powermac to practice on at home and Transfer all my stuff to a powerbook via my iPod for shows. My pod is one of the old 5 gig versions so I would preffer to be able to move files to the trash directly from SSL. I don't mind searching through my SSL library for the files since they did a good job providing list options. And 5 gigs is plenty to let get messy for a while. But I woul LOVE to be able to tidy up from within' SSL when I'm trying out new sounds to scratch or especialy when I record my various friends then freak their voices right before their ears to their own bewilderment. (My mom saying her name in the mic looses all value after she's heard it scratched once or twice). Also my crew be freakn' out and recording mad shit for me to scratch than later I've got to dig through the current boot drive, listen to each one with quicktime to make sure I didn't want to keep it, and drag the ugly ones to the trash. When I'd like to just kill them at the instant I know they suck....Ctrl Shift Delete anyone???????????? Count me IN.

KMXE ... I got a nasty work around for you. Nasty nasty - don't say I didn't warn you...
You're on PC right?
Empty your recycle bin. select the tracks you want to get rid of (from within the crate), and press ctrl-alt-delete... no, wait, ctrl-shift-delete. this will a) remove them from the crate, b) remove them from the library and c) send them to the recycle bin. Have to turn 'read iTunes library' off for this to work, turn it back on afterwards.
You want a) and b), you don't want c). Go to the recycle bin, select all, right click, and restore. Nasty... but it might just do what you want.
Direct - ctrl-shift-delete will help you too. Be careful though, especially on the mac where you don't have that handy restore function.
