Hi guys,

Im just wondering, is there a simple way to move my library from a PC to a Macbook pro? Including crates ect.

Also, when music is imported into Serato, is a copy made and moved into the Serato library folder, or dues Serato simply read it from the folder where it was imported from? I usually keep all of the music i want to show up in Serato in a folder on my desktop - if, when I import these into Serato they are copied to 1 Serato library it would be really simple to move it between computers.

Anyway, sorry about the confusing explination

Any help is greatly appriciated

i believe if you have an external hard drive and it is formatted as a Fat32 (right click on your external, in MY computer on the PC, select properties and it should say if it is.) Then you just have to load or let itunes scan your hard drive for music on the Mac. Once all your music is in the itunes library, and then you open Serato, all of the music should be imported into Serato. Note: i dont think any of your playlist in Itunes on the PC will be carried over to the Mac, but the songs should, as long as they are all on your external HD. if you all your music is on a external HD, then whatever crates you made on the PC, should show up on the Mac, as soon as you plug in that hard drive.
Let me know if you dont have a external, because then maybe I can tell you another way of copying your crates rom PC to Mac.
good luck

Hi mate - thanks for the reply.

Im trying my best to avoid using iTunes to be honest. What I really want to do, if possible, is locate the Serato library on my pc - copy it to my external hard drive - copy the library onto my mac, then let serato (on my mac) scan the library and add all the tracks and crates ect.

Does this make sense?

to get your serato crates, all you need to do is go into "My documents" on your PC, then "My Music", and in there you should see a "Scratch Live" folder in there. copy this folder to your external or Mac. This will copy all your crates.

So basically if you have music on your PC, transfer it to your external and then to your Mac if you like. Then Copy the Serato scratch live folder I mentioned above, and you should be go to go. I keep my music and the scratch live folder on my external so that I can bring my crates and music anywhere and to any computer

To let serato on your Mac scan your Music either from a file location on the Mac or external, go to files on scratch live, search where the folder is at that contains your music and then import them or drag and drop.

Hey Andy,

Here are very specific instructions on moving a library from one internal drive to another:

There are a few steps to this process. First is to move your music from your old computer to the new one. Next is to move the ScratchLIVE folder from the 'My Music' folder (PC) or 'Music' folder (Mac) to the same location on the new computer. Last is to use the relocate lost files feature to calculate the location of the files on the new computer.

Step 1: Move your music library.

This pretty self explanatory. Copy your files to an external drive or put them on a cd/dvd to transport the files from the old computer to the next.
Place the files on your new computer wherever your wanting them to live.

Step 2: Move the ScratchLIVE folder.

Like I stated above, move the ScratchLIVE folder from the 'My Music' folder (PC) or 'Music' folder (Mac) to the same location on the new computer. If you already have a ScratchLIVE folder on the new computer than replace it with this one.

Step 3: Use the 'Relocate lost files' feature to have SSL find the files on your new drive.

Note: First make sure to unplug the external drive you might have used to move your library from the old internal to the new one.
Then...

1. Open SSL.

2. Click on the 'files' tab.

3. Click on the 'relocate lost files' tab in the lower left corner of the 'files' window.

That will find the location of the files on your drive and you should be good to go!

Cheers guys!

Thats a lot of help!

While i have a thread open, does anybody know of any issues regarding running audio through an SL3, not from Serato?

The only reason i ask is because im hoping to play using serato for the first time in a club which im a resident at at. I was hoping to set up serato before the show starts, let the turntables run through the SL3 while the traditional vinyl DJs are on, then just hook up my laptop and start Serato instead of trying to mess around setting up the equipment mid-show. I was just a bit concerned about leaving the SL3 running for too long - anybody got any opinions on this?

Thanks again

Andy

The SL3 was designed to run like that. Absolutely no problems at all.
Just make sure your bring the power adapter for your SL3 with you so you don't need to leave your laptop in to power the unit.
