Dropping Your Logo During Mix

DJ Sousay 10:41 PM - 13 November, 2009
First of all I am new to Video SL. I have been spinning for quite some time now but just got a new residency that asked me to do Video so I jumped at it. I am still very confused about A LOT! But I did figure out a little trick the other night by fluke. This might sounds common sense to some of you but I figured I would introduce myself to everyone and maybe this could be a quick fix for some of you looking to drop your DJ logo in the middle of your video set.

I noticed a lot of you post about how to drop your logo on the video screens. This is an easy fix. NOTE**This is only for Macbook new Unibody users.*** Set the background of your desktop to your DJ Logo and then use a four finger upward motion in order to make your windows fly away to reveal your desktop. This will also make your video window shoot away on your external screens. And BOOM everyone sees your logo! Then just use a four finger swipe downward and the video is back on. No crazy programs or custom made video drops.

I know bout the five finger discount, wtf is a four finger swipe?
DJLRock 10:13 PM - 14 November, 2009
you can do that on any mac if you go into expose and pick an active screen corner to show your desktop

DJ-Phat-AL 11:43 PM - 14 November, 2009

I try to stay away from doing this. Just because it looks like something messed up or VSL crashed really quick. I just made basic QTZ files to do this.
DJ Sousay 7:45 PM - 15 November, 2009
MIC - if you go to Apple -> preferences and then click on trackpad there is a quick tutorial that will teach you how to use the finger movements in order to do this.

POPROXXX - I agree with you a bit. If I knew how to do more with the video I would. In the meantime this was a quick fix for me. I don't even know what a QTZ file is, yet alone how to make one. I feel like it is much harder to learn the ins and outs of video DJing as there just isn't as much information out there on it yet. You guys talk about encoding video and all these different file formats, h.264, etc., yadda yadda, and I have NO idea what any of it means! lol

Either did I. I just started looking things up online about all of it. I've officially doing video full time for a year now. When I first started, I didn't even know there were video pools like record pools. ;-)

On the QTZ side of this conversation. This is one of the tutorials I started with a while back:

macapper.com

I found it in a google search:

if your green to VSL ,getting a logo on the screen should be the least of your concerns.
Just saying.

btw, I have a feeling all VSL users will have no problems with this down the road :)

really Josh? i've been seeing some statements that good things were coming. i hope it's all true and not just talk *fingers crossed*
DJ Sousay 2:22 AM - 16 November, 2009
PopRoxxx - Thanks for that info!

Joshua Carl - I am new to VSL but I have been spinning on serato for quite some time. In the last month the place I spin at in Planet Hollywood asked me to start doing this. Controlling the video isn't really what I am having a hard time understanding. It is all the ins and outs of Encoding formats, video editing, and different ways to output your video. If you think that I should not be worrying about dropping my logo, what steps would you suggest I take in order to learn all of the ins and outs of video sl? Where should I start? I have been trying to dig through the forums and learn what I can but it has been a long process.

Blondies. It is a pretty big sports bar right across from V Theater in Miracle Mile. Not sure if you are familiar with that but its not far from Hawaiian Tropic or Prive. For Video it is perfect. They have over 40 Flatscreens and 6 projectors. Its fun.

PHat-AL - Wow I checked out your website and I own a ton of your remixes. I don't know why I did not put two and two together. I am a huge fan of your work.
DJ-Phat-AL 6:18 AM - 16 November, 2009
Thanks! I will come by and check it out. When do you spin?
DJ Sousay 6:32 PM - 16 November, 2009
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Tuesdays is $10 all you can drink Beer and Wells. Right now its kinda slow but we are trying to build this night up as "college Night"
Thursdays is $10 all you can drink Beer and a singles Beer Pong tournament. This night is usually pretty busy.
Friday are random events, sometimes cover, sometimes not....

Sooo Let me know when you are coming and I will make sure the guy out front knows so that you don't have to pay a cover charge.
