switching DJ's

I was thinking since the 57 has internal memory...for effects and such. would it be possible for scratch live to send the song to the mixer like a button that can be pressed and play off internal memory, switch dj's then have a button that can retrieve the current song playing on the new computer. will prevent the need for real vinyl at the switch point and would be more of a reason to have a 57. just an idea.

I don't think the internal memory is hardly big enough to store any reasonable amount of audio. I suppose the amount of memory is just enough to accomodate effects and audioprocessing which would only need... a few 100Kb?

does any one have specs for the memory of the mixer?

nope impossible its already maxed out...heard it from the designer of the mixer myself at namm 2008

Some use the 'hold echo' effect on the 57 to swap between users as which will give you a 4-bar loop. You just have to make sure that the swap happens quick enough before everyone gets sick of the 4-bar loop.

The problem of switching between users is something I’m sure tech guys as Rane know about. Adding RAM into the mixer is a possibility for later mixers (ttm58 ???). Either that or making a unit that has two usb cables to allow for switching. However having another cable could make things a little cluttered expecially on the SP boxes. I'm sure addressing this isn’t too far away and I was a little surprised that they didn't do much about this in the SP3. That's kind of the nature of Rane though... they release things slowly and reliably

Id like to see why...from what I can tell this wouldnt be uber difficult to change hardware wise...software probably more difficult...but hell a mpc 1000 can hold something like 512mb so theoretically why not the 57...

although I dont need this feature just saying...

My guess, the MPC is actually using DDR or SDRAM (computer memory), the TTM57 does not have this interface and design would need to be changed significantly to add this. I think the only memory the TTM57 has, is the one that is built in into the DSP-chip which is not expandable. The only 'easy' way to expand that would be to install another DSP-chip with more memory, but I can tell you those are damn expensive and would add another couple of 100 dollars to the price.

Also, it's the PC that is doing the actual vinyl emulation, the TTM57 only acts as an audio-interface and effects processor. At it's best, it would only be possible to load audio and have it play at a constant rate without manipulation.

And yet another issue is that the audio would need to be sent to the the mixer, but the mixer only uses USB 1.1 which is slooooooooooooow. So it would take forever before the entire song is loaded into your mixer.

Could indeed be an idea for a new TTM58 or something, but I don't think it will be reality on the 57. I guess for now it's still the best to just bring along another 'real' vinyl or CD to play while switching, or just to hook up an iPod with a 10~15 minute mix/introduction when making your switch.

they should design a usb cable with 2 plugs for a computer on one end and a switch or something
