Math Problem

lofty 12:24 AM 5 November 2009
So My daughters teacher presented the parents with a math problem.

What is the Number?

-The sum of the digits is 17
-It is an even number between 17000 - 18000
-There are 2 pairs of digits that have a difference of 6
-No digit is greater than 7
-The number is less than 17100

I think it's 17036

Right or wrong?
Jesus Christ 12:32 AM 5 November 2009
Meets all the criteria.
DJ Sniffles 2:17 AM 5 November 2009
well, you said it's two pairs with a difference of 6... your answer only has one pair, right? Or am I not seeing something
DJ Sniffles 2:21 AM 5 November 2009
17054...maybe? Damn math. I've always hated math
DJ Sniffles 2:22 AM 5 November 2009
wait, that's not right
DJ CISC0 2:24 AM 5 November 2009
Why would the teacher say "-It is an even number between 17000 - 18000" and "-The number is less than 17100"?

Why not just say it's a number between 17000-17100?
DJ Sniffles 2:43 AM 5 November 2009
On her homework, you need to write a letter the the teacher saying "Please see me after class"

Grade 5 , the class couldn't get it.

I'll find out today

Its a pretty easy question when you think about it. She already gave you 3 out of the five digits with her last hint. 170_ _

Now just come up with a combinatioon of 2 numbers that add up to 9. There are none bigger than 7. So, 7+2 or 6+3 or 4+5. That's it. Put in those three and see which one comes meets all the criteria.

By the way, 17063 also works.

All I can thnk of is the scene from back to school when Rodney dangerfield is taking his finals and says, "4?"
FunkyRob 9:15 PM 5 November 2009

Hey djs should be good at math.
Ya gotta know if the track playing is 128 bpm and the next track is 126bpm you bump the pitch 1.6%
or that sick D&B track at 180bpm will mix nice with a hiphop acapella

It doesn't follow:
Quote:

-There are 2 pairs of digits that have a difference of 6

right?
Jesus Christ 4:38 AM 14 November 2009
*sigh*... once again:

1 and 7 = 6 apart
0 and 6 = 6 apart

Class dismissed.
mikep 4:51 AM 14 November 2009
I guess I'm too literal, for me a pair of digits would be next to each other. Then this question would not be possible.
Thanks JC

Jesus Christ 8:59 AM 14 November 2009
