DJ Josh V 4:05 AM 3 November 2009

I think they look pretty cool and if they work maybe worth getting one.

I have been wearing a phiten necklace for 3 years. I have an old shoulder injury and yes it does seem to help as far as not getting sore for extended periods of time. Placebo effect? I dunno, but I do believe it helps. Magnetic jewelry and Titanium jewelry have been proven to improve blood circulation tho.

I give girls pearl necklaces. Zing!

I wore one of those magnetic necklaces (no pearl necklace lol) a few years ago and got the worst headache I've ever gotten in my life. I didn't realize it was the necklace until it happened 2 more times and I realized I only got the headaches when I was wearing the damn thing. I figured it had something to do with circulation/blood rushing to my head.

One of my buddies works for powerbalance and gave me a bracelet, I don't really feel any different but the test that they do to prove that it works is cool as hell. I do it to everyone and they are amazed at the balance it gives them.

Whats the test?

Titanium helps with circulation and I think magnets work more on the molecular level... allowing your cells optimal conditions to self heal and regenerate.

kind of hard to explain. check out the powerbalance website, it shows the test on there.

lol that looks painful
the problem with that hat is that it trains you to smile with your mouth, however a real smile uses muscles all over the face and you can relatively easily tell a real from a fake by looking at the eyes and cheeks.
DJ Josh V 10:21 AM 11 November 2009
that smile hat looks gross to me for some reason

That power balance test reminds me of another thing my buddy does. He'll have you stretch your arms out and then he'll tell you to say, "I am weak, I am depressed, I hate." And then he'll push your arms down easily, then he'll have you say, "I am strong, I am happy, I love" and try the same thing and not be able to push your arms down. Positive energy also breeds strength. Crazy.

Power Balance bracelets, the popular performance accessory worn by athletes including Drew Brees, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant, provide no scientific edge, the company confessed this week.

The California-based company was forced to admit the lack of evidence supporting its claims of natural power after coming to an agreement with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the Associated Press reported.

Athletes who wore the bands insisted they provided a boost. Science said otherwise.

The bracelets, first released in 2007, were embedded with holograms and supposedly designed to interact with the energy flow of a body. They sold for $29.95 and were worn by athletes and celebrities like Shaquille O'Neal, David Beckham and Robert De Niro.

Power Balance expected sales of $35 million in 2010. With the confession that the bands are more charm than power source, that total could drop in 2011. If, indeed, that's what happens, the company has no one to blame but itself.

Why even bother making the claim that the bracelet gave power? Why not dance around the issue and refuse to make a definitive statement about them? Issue vague comments about natural energies and positive karma (like a hippie selling a crystal at a Phish show) and let fans of the product do the rest of the promotion by word of mouth.

[Rewind: What's with MLB players' thick necklaces?]

Just like lucky socks, those titanium necklaces worn by baseball players or that $5 putter you bought from a sale rack at a pro shop, the only benefit derived from the Power Balance bracelet is the idea that it makes you better. Belief is a powerful thing; just watch a basketball player during a hot shooting streak or a golfer with the yips. Deep down we all know wearing the same sweatshirt on NFL Sunday doesn't change the outcome of our favorite team's game, but we wear it anyway, just in case.

Nobody really cares if the bracelet actually provides any positive effect, they just care that they think it does. By claiming the former, Power Balance caused people to doubt the latter
