Does VSL have anything to do with metadata/tags?

Does VSL have anything to do with metadata/tags?

In other words, I assume that only SSL releases affect this.

I think you're correct since it's ssl that's reading it just like mp3's.

Why are you getting issues.

1.9.2 allows for internal tagging, you can run the smash through ssl first to have built in cues and overviews.

I might start doing that for my vids.

actually I came across a problem with 1.9.2 & tagging, so currently trying to address this issue.
djpuma_gemini 3:05 PM - 2 November, 2009
what was the issue?

Don't forget it will still write the metdata to the old ovb xml files (unless you delete them).

Not sure how to get cues and loops from previous mp4's into the new system (internally tagging)

from my experience with 1.9.2, you have to remove the video from your ssl library, delete the ovb and xml files as puma said, then re-import the file. then you can build overviews and the changes in the tags you make in ssl, including overviews/cues, will stay inside the mp4 file. only problem is that you lose existing overviews/cues when you delete those ovb/xml files. this is good for new mp4 files, but doesn't help with videos in your existing library unless you want to re-do your whole library with cues/loops etc again.

i did the "redo everything" Just deleted the entire metadata folder and started setting cues and loops, sucks at a gig though.

I'm just talkin about new tagging.

The problem has something to do with tagging videos using atomic parsley (I'm sure other formats as well). With my recent tests, a fresh mp4 tagged with ap was uneditable in Serato. A fresh mp4 that was tagged in itunes was editable. Now keep in mind this is tagging the mp4 file itself not any of the xml, db etc. The only way to truly test is to delete the scratchlive folder and start fresh after each test. Cues, ovb & loop information will store no matter if u used ap or tunes, but it will not save the tags.

I found a work around until this is fixed, if it gets fixed.

wait...so if you haven't deleted the older ovb xml files, will the newly imported files still be using ovb xml files as well? or are newly imported files using tags now?

i'm a bit lost on what's using ovb xml files and tags...

i currently want everything to use tags but with minimal re-doing whatever....dammit. i probably gotta re-tag everything.
marx 7:38 PM - 2 November, 2009
I'm 99% sure its reading from the ovb xml. U gotta redo :-(

I'm using iTunes so all I had to do was delete the metadata folder and reanalyze my videos. It works good now.

@sixxx:

so you imported your "old" mp4's in iTunes, deleted your meta-data folder and reanalyzed them where?

in SL or in iTunes, with some function, I didn't mention before?

excuse my bad grammar - I'm from overseas ;)

cheers grec

I deleted the metadata folder in SSL. I reanalyzed the mp4s and now all is good.
sixxx 3:24 PM - 12 March, 2010
I do have to mention there are a few videos (about 40 out of 9K +) that for some reason still keep being added to the metadata folder. My guess is there is some info on them that SSL still needs to keep track of.

Check and see if those are MOV's.

I have some movs that do that and I'm slowly replacing them with mp4's
marx 9:07 PM - 12 March, 2010
Demux and remux them
