I'm actually thinking about buying Clipper tickets along with Laker tickets.

6:24 PM 28 October 2009
I can't afford Lakers tickets, not the seats I would want anyway. Yes I could afford the $300 if it was just me but I would have to pay for my girl too and that's $600. I'm not paying $600 to see ANYONE throw a ball in a hoop lol

I'm on the same boat Dub,
I went to the pre-season game at Vegas and was stoked to get good seats at $60 (x2). I haven't seen the Lakers live since they moved from the G. W. Forum. Can't have that luxury now in the regular season. :(
Plus I don't mind watching it at home in Hi Def. lol (in other words, i'm broke)

great date idea...since you get to watch the game and have to do less talking. Plus lots of places to go eat and drink after.

Yeah watching the games in hi-def on my 52" is very nice. My friends like to go out to sports bars but I prefer to stay home and hear the game on a decent size TV and have cheap drinks. But I am going to try to go to one game this year. Shit I'll go solo or find a friend to pay for themselves, my girl isn't even a true laker fan so why pay for her? lol

Lakers are sloppy!
The bench is not being as productive. I think there will be some balance once Gasol comes back. Gasol seems to be more relaxed and patient under the rim and that's something Bynum needs to learn. Although Bynums rebounding/defense has improved IMO.
none-the-less, LETS GOOOOOOOO LAKERS.

the team looks really sloppy. too many turnovers and bad rebounding. the rox had so many 2nd chance opportunities.
im sure the bench will get better upon pau's return.

dude I give props to the Rockets. If they go to the playoffs, Adelman should be coach of the year.
1. No superstars this season, let alone, no stars. period. No go to guy.
2. No one over 6-9
3. Chuckie Hayes at 6-6 starting center! LOL
4. Everyone hustles, knows their role, and they play scrappy bball.
5. They aren't a bunch of primadonna complainers like the Lakers, they play team bball too.

I guess it was a right fit for Ariza.
As much as I like Fisher's scrappy and roughness he brings to the Lakers, he wont cut it with PG's like C.Paul, D. Williams, A. Brooks, etc.. Dudes are just to quick. I think Brown should be matched up with those type of PG's, he's quick, agile and explosive when given the space.
Don't get me wrong but Fisher's leadership is much needed in the court to balance out the primadonna's in the team. LOL

I thought it was funny last night how Fisher poked every teammate in the chest for letting Brooks burn him and not helping on defense during a timeout.
Good defense starts with the point guard. Fisher is a great leader, but too slow now.
Phil Jackson loves old, slow, unathletic, but methodical and under control point guards, a.k.a. Ron harper, Brian Shaw, Fisher. LOL

He's just strong as hell and a pesky and persistant on both offense and defense. People don't realize that when you guard a guy who is built like a tank, you use a lot of energy keeping him from backin you in. You expend tons of engery using upper and lower body strength from guarding and playing against artest. It some ways, it can tire you out quicker than guarding a quick player.

How's this: if the Lakers lost Kobe would they have even made the playoffs?
The Celtics lost their best player and made it to Game 7 of the 2nd round of the playoffs? Shit, the Celts trashed the Magic when they had KG earlier in the season (at home by 19, in Orlando by 10).
Also, it's not my fault the Lakers had the biggest in-game choke in sports history. Blame them for it. I'll keep bringing it up because it was so awesome.
Remember in that game when Ray Allen completely smoked Vujacic? And then remember this:

Now that C's have Sheed, I'm sorry but its gonna be a tough game for the Lake show. We really wanted to face you guys in the finals last year, not our fault that KG doesn't work as hard as Kobe does and gets injured to miss the playoffs.
You remember these two games?
sports.espn.go.com
If you recall, your team just won 19 games in a row and we ended your streak! What happened, Garnett was there?
sports.espn.go.com
Again, your team was riding a 12 game winning streak and who beat you? We did!!! and guess what, Garnett was there and we didn't have Bynum who was avg a double double right before he got injured.
Like I said, it would've been really nice to face you in the finals. we beat you twice in the regular season and we would've had home court advantage. The rematch would've been great, but you guys didn't pull through.
I give you guys props for kicking our ass in 2008...it was your year. Just face the facts and realize that 2009 was ours.
And like I said, I look forward to our 2 games this year.

The only person I'm scared of on the Celtics is Rajon Rondo.

Hahahahahaha, man.... I didn't know this was a comedy message board!
FYI - Ron Artest has NEVER been able to shut down Paul Pierce. In games since the 03-04 season Pierce has averaged 19 points a game against Ron Artest teams. Presumably, Artest was on Pierce for those games. He's also put up an average of 4.6 assists and 5.9 rebounds and 3.5 turnovers while shooting 43.4%. Those numbers are only slightly lower than Pierce's careers - 44.3% shooting with 22.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 3.9 APG (this goes up vs Artest) and 3.1 TOPG.
We all know that Artest is an excellent defensive player - but he isn't some stopper who can shut down Paul Pierce.
And if you really think some soft European bitch like Gasol can actually check KG, you're on another planet. Ray Allen has killed the Lakers in his career with 20.6 PPG and 5 boards and 5 assists per. So don't think Kobe is just "checking" him. If you really think the Lakers are a better defensive team than the Celtics, I'm laughing at you. Simply put - they're not.

This was what was written about it:
Dumping a bucket of pig's blood on a girl at her prom is rude and all, but what Ray Allen did to Sasha Vujacic on that driving layup was humiliation of the highest order.
Someone breaks you down like that on the playground or in the Y and that's it. Grab you keys and Gatorade and head home, time to rethink some things.

Dumping a bucket of pig's blood on a girl at her prom is rude and all, but what Ray Allen did to Sasha Vujacic on that driving layup was humiliation of the highest order.
Someone breaks you down like that on the playground or in the Y and that's it. Grab you keys and Gatorade and head home, time to rethink some things.
ehh... seen better. He really didn't cross him over just kinda blew by him. Now if he crossed him over and Sasha fell, then thats when he needs to turn in his kicks.

I don't care for Sasha and his defense sucks, although he's a pesky defender. In his defense (or lack there of), he was guarding the best jump shooter in the world and was probably expecting him to pull up or step back for a jump shot, not get beat on an easy layup by a 33 year old dude. LOL

I've been saying this when I first saw him play off the bench with the Lakers. He pissed on Sasha's position, Brown is an explosive player! Giving him more playing time will help him surpass what would off been if Ariza would've stayed.

The team looks better when they actually run the offense. I hope Kobe reverts to playing team ball when he returns and I hope that Odom and the bench continues to play with passion and heart.
Odom has been a beast these past two games. Gasol had a great game last night, although I've been disappointed with his game around the basket. The dood misses easy layups and gets pushed around all the time.
Fisher shot well these past two games, but his defense is terrible. Parker ate him up. Fisher is also turnover prone...he makes the worst passes as a point guard, telegraphing them right to the other team.
I've been really impressed with Shannon and Farmar. Their confidence is really high right now.
Overall the team is in a good place and as Barkley said, Kobe's injury is actually helping the Lakers.

Understandable, I guess teams have their on/off nights. But you got to admit 2 wins with the same line-up showed some consistency.
Although I did notice Brown scoring was not the same as if he would come off the bench. He was missing open shots, it was either too short or overpowered. His defense seems to stay on par, I like that he's patient to attempt the steel.
I noticed that Odom, Gasol and Farmar were trying cool Sasha down and telling him to take it easy but he would get more upset.!!!

I agree with Steve, they don't seem to have that spark or games that make that statement "we're coming for that championship". It seems like having Bynum out is affecting the rotation were Odom would come off the bench and contribute.
The bench is not a threat, as a matter of fact I don't think we even have "key" players other than Odom (but he's a starter now) Farmar has up's and down's and Brown has been going down hill. The rest, ummmm, well.................................
As for Kobe, shooting is def off but hopefully it's there when we need it.
I think the first round playoff will depict what role the Lakers wanna play!

if that wasn't a wake up call, shit we're in trouble.
The only thing that has me concerned is that the Lakers don't have a deep bench to step up and provide more energy to the game.
The only one that can make a difference is Odom, I would think you would count on Farmar and Brown but they haven't been stepping up lately. as for the others ehhhh....
I liked Phil's comments towards LA's fans (not in general) but those who attend the games. "La fans are more laid back and not so worried" something in that nature.
Which is very true, I see people falling asleep or looking as if they're being forced to be there. While I'm in my house braking shit, punching walls. But yeah LA Fans at least those attending the games need to step it up and show some fucking support. And all the hollywood stars need to stay home and donate there tickets to some one who actually knows/cares about the game instead of being on the spot light.

What are you talking about not having depht in their bench? Didn't they win a championship with the same guys? Lol, Kobe isn't 100% and that is affecting their offense. Defensively, they will make adjustments for game 5. No worries guys!

with the talent the lakers have they shouldnt HAVE to be making game 5 adjustments or relying on kobes offence to beat the team formally known as the supersonics, if thror struggling against the thunder they should turn over the trophy now before the magic,celtics\ect ect really embaras them

I wouldn't consider that a deep bench, those guys because they hardly got minutes during the season and are hardly going to get minutes during the playoffs. Sadly they can't come off the bench and be a difference maker. So that just leaves Odom, Farmar and Brown, which can be a difference maker but they haven't done that yet.
I'm not worried, we will get past Thunder but if this series is not a wake up call to play championship basketball than we might have trouble in the next round.

Its your inability to center your arguments as a whole instead of arguing piecemeal and contradicting yourself.
Here is your statement
"with the talent the lakers have they shouldnt HAVE to be making game 5 adjustments or relying on kobes offence to beat the team formally known as the supersonics, if thror struggling against the thunder they should turn over the trophy now before the magic,celtics\ect ect really embaras them"
The phoenix suns have superior talent over the Portland trailblazers, the 2009 Lakers have superior talent over the 2009 Rockets, the 2008 Celtics have superior talent over the 2008 Hawks, the 2010 Nuggets and 2010 Jazz...
Just because you have superior talent doesn't mean you are guaranteed to win anything or are a shittier team than your east coast counterpart.
Any real basketball fan who watches basketball understand that the game is all about MATCHUPS.

The eighth see has a record of 52-34, the first seed has a record of 59-27. That is only a 7 game difference in the strong western conference. The eighth seed is a 52 game win team which is concludes the how strong the west is and its parody.
Look at the east coast. The eight seed has a record of 40-41 while the first seed has a record of 61-20. Now if the Cavs lost the series to the Bullls, that would be an upset.
Your arguments never have any substance. #justsayin

The lakers ARE the more talented of the two teams not only did they prove that by having the better record but they have proven it against this same thunder team durring the regular season, you respond with "Just because you have superior talent doesn't mean you are guaranteed to win anything or are a shittier team than your east coast counterpart." which is EXACTLY the reason im saying that if their struggling against the thunder then they need to turn it in and go home. They beat this team 3 outta 4 times durring the regular season and they beat them in the first 2 games of the playoffs for a 5 outta 6 win record, they ARE the better team and need to start playing like it. With the exception of the milwake\atlanta series (whitch to me is a non factor in the long term) every other series is closing out their opponent with the quickness so while the lakers are pandering around with a 7 game FIRST ROUND SERIES to the thunder who present THE SAME MATCHUPS they presented for the first 5 outta 6 times they played this season, the other teams are getting valuable rest time while the lakers are running around draining their batterys and wearing down their most important tools and risking further injury to kobe. The lakers have been historically famous for being lackadasical after a winning streak of a series, they coast and toy with their opponent instead of finishing them off and they are not in a position to afford that luxery at this juncture of the playoffs.
Now for your second point

You further prove my point by showing that though they are the last place seed in this division they are by no means a weak team so if the lakers are strugggling with this team the opponets only get harder from here on out, not only that but their opponents be more rested and prepared than the lakers are.
So what part of your argument disproves my original point that the lakers need to start playing up to their damn potential and finish the damn thunder off or their gonna get left in the dust watching from their LA living rooms for a great deal of the playoffs??

If they understand the matchups then they should off been able to close the series 2 games ago. I just have to give credit to the Thunder for outplaying the Lakers these past 2 games.

if you really look at the matchups. They aren't that great for us.
Westbrook > Gasol
Kobe > whoever except for Durant who shut him down. But remember kobe is playiing with a bad knee and finger.
Durant > Artest
Gasol = Green
Whoever = Bynum
Thunder bench > Laker bench
Gasol and Bynum are big but aren't strong enough. Length is strength until you get a guy like Serge Ibaka who is playing out of his mind, jumps higher, is way faster, and only gives up a couple of inches.
etc.
The whole length thing is overrated when the team is moderately sized and really fast. Look at phoenix in their run and gun days with D'Antonio, they were killing everyone and would have beat the Spurs that year if Amare hadn't been suspended.

I'll say what I've been saying all season. The Lakers don't have the hunger for the championship this year. If they lose to the Thunder or lose in the next round or the finals it's not because the other team is better. It's because the Lakers don't really want it.

I agree with the injured Kobe reference. Durant can't stop a 100% Kobe.
Artes<Durant
Artest shows up when he wants to and it's not consistant therefore it makes Durant's game predictable when you see Artest defense.
+1 on Thunder bench.

The only reason, and I mean ONLY reason thunder have won the past two games is because the lakers fail to get into their transition defense. Thunder are faster, and whoever gets the rebound halls ass.

All the lakers have to do is run their offense, the thunder can not beat them in the half court game. You will never see westbrook running up the lane for an easy layup. They will be very limited in what they can do. The lakers just needs to realize that if someone shoots a jumper and you are not in position to get a rebound, GET READY TO GET THE FUCK BACK!

Sorry but every other series is not closing out their opponent with the quickness. The eastern conference yes..but the west, no.
All the series are at 3-2. It just goes to show you that the western conference is a tougher division and that the Thunder would be much higher than an 8th seed if they played in the east.
With that said, the Lakers are stinking it up this year. They had a nice win on Tuesday but unfortunately, I haven't seen them play with that kind of intensity this whole year.
Talent is great, but if you don't have the heart, dedication or will power to succeed you're not going to go anywhere.
That's pretty much what this team lacks and that's why they're having a hard time against the Thunder.

The lake show killed it last night! I haven't seen them play that well since game six against Denver last year. Their defense was solid and their ball movement on offense was great. It was a near perfect game except for those 5 minutes when Utah brought it back within five.
Gasol was a beast! I'm pretty sure he'll have his way against the suns. Bynum was terrible again. Either he's really injured or he doesn't care. I'm always confused why the guy doesn't dunk when he's so close to the basket.
And Barkley got owned...haha! Chuck said that Kobe can't score 30 - 40 points a game anymore cause he's old and washed up. So much for that prediction. Kobe scored over 30 points in each game of the series.
In all, I'm pretty confident about the team. I think they were just waiting for the playoffs to really turn things on.

He was putting up monster #'s before he got hurt. 20+ jordans and 10+ rodmans. Gasol has never been a banger, so I dont expect much from him in terms of getting n there and doing the dirty work. He just needs to keep scoring in the low post and kickin it out to open shooters. Thats what we got ron ron for to bang. If Bynum never got hurt we would no doubt be winning chip after chip. There is only one ball to go around and 24 has to get his plus Gasol in the post, so not many shots left. Bynum is still better than half of the big men in the L when healthy. If someone can name me 5 centers that are better (and not no F/C either). A legit 7 footer, let me know who.

I agree Bynum has the ability to be a beast but remember kid is only 21. Hopefully he gets healthy and he can get back to living up to his potential. But now since we have Gasol, his role has changed on our team. He should just concentrate on being a defensive monster. We don't need his scoring in the post as much as before. Now he needs to just rebound and play great D.

How can you say his role hasn't changed since we got Gasol. Gasol is a more polished offensive player than Bynam so Gasol will get more touches in the paint. Like I said before , There is only 1 ball to go around. With Kobe, Gasol, and everyone else, there is not that many touches to go around. So what Bynum should concentrate on is his D and getting off boards. He will get his touches in the paint but not has much as Gasol. Phil takes Bynum out because of his knee. Remember He is playing through injurys. He can only play so many minutes. You can't fault Bynum for that. And yes 24 plays through his injurys, but 24 is on a whole other level....

He came straight from high school into the L, so of course he was a unpolished, out of shape, mentally soft rookie. Consistency is KEY when it comes to being able to get the rock. I'm pretty sure if he would be a rim rocker there would be no problem running the post with Bynum instead of Gasol or settling for jump shots or 3's.
I don't underestimate his game, the boy has mad potential to become an elite center in the league but his not showing it, at least not right now. I do agree though with his defense, he needs to be feared in the paint not taken for.

Same with Gasol, he's a good passer and will look to create a play first rather than scoring as his first option. What I think Gasol and Kobe realized is that if non of the other players are stepping up to maintain the pace/score of the game then it's up to them to carry the team for a victory.

i lost most of my repspect for bynum RIGHT after he came in the league, phil jackson was gettin onto him and bynum was ignoring him and jackson told him hed bench him and his reply was something along the lines of, well if i sit the bench i still get paid right??. Ever since then i just cant look at him with any respect until he starts earning some, he spends to much time chillin at the playboy mansion and bein a famous NBA player and not enough time focusing on working on his game. He started to show some potential before he got hurt though, i 100% think he has the ability to be shaq good, hes got the size and is he put in the gym work hed have the physical ability, and every once in a while someone pushes his button and hell start at least trying to push to his potential but besides that hes to happy just to be out there

Thats why i root for the my hometown hornets.......though before the hornets moved to NOLA i did consider did consider myself a fan of the magic and as much of a fan i am of the lakers (and all bullshitting aside) i dont know how well i see them doing against this years orlando magic team. These guys are playing wide open pedal to the floor all engines go basketball, much better than last year and they pushed the lakers last year. I think what pushes them over the edge is whereas the lakers are confident as they won last year, the magic have blood in their mouth because they know they CAN do it, add that with the confidence of having swept the entire playoffs so far and the rest that adds and itll be a hell of a series IF they can beat the celtics....i think the magic celtics series will be pretty epic

Bezzle, i dont understand this MENTAL thing your talking about... How would your mental strength be if you just had two MAJOR knee injuries in back to back years. Players in the NBA usually dont hit there prime till 25-27 so Bynum still has some time.
Im sure you didnt forget when Bynum was giving everyone the business before he got injured. Thats why the Lakers gave him his big contract because of that potential he has. If he is such a stiff then y would the lakers give him a big contract?
An as for your comparison to Kevin Durant that is a terrible comparison... Kevin Durant was a College Player of the Year, Drafted 2nd overall (should have went 1st) and was a better prospect coming out of the draft than when Bynum was drafted. Remember Bynum was drafted i believe 11 or 13. He was a major project. Some thought he was drafted to high. Plus were taking about why Bynum is not leaving up to his potential.. its cause of injuryes Not age. Durant has never been injured so not a good comparison.

Your confusing mental toughness with physical. Im talking about mental issues hes been having his entire career, even before these injurys, lil things like if your in a playoff series dont go out partying at the playboy mansion, watch some film shoot some freethrows prepare your self for the game, get some rest, get focused. If I have 2 back to back knee injurys I would be focused on getting in the gym and making myself stronger so those injurys dont keep happening (alot of on court injurts are the result on iinadequate preperation in strength and conditioning). Do you think if kobe had back to back injurys that he would stop showing heart?? No kobe would come back after the second injury and start putting people on posters to prove you cant stop him!! The same way kobe plays through injurys tht would bench most players (and yes i realise you cant play through a torn ligament). Also the mental toughness im talking about would be looking at Gasol bein the go to man on offence and noticing that and pushing yourself double on defence and rebounding (like you said he should be doing) so that your still contributing and not just taking up space waiting for your turn to score.
I realise theres a reason the lakers gave him such a big contract, because his potential is there, but as you said yourself hes a project....that means he has things to work on and those things arent his basic game, its his mental. I was using durant as an example because you were using age as a excuse for him, durant is less than a year older than him and look at the things hes accomplished, hes carrying a team all by himself
And yes he was elevating himself before his last injury, for a moment he was showing mental toughness, he was playing aggressivley and he was out there trying to prove himself, and all it took was the star of the team waging a campaign to have him thrown off the team to get him motivated and mad enough to go out on the court and start showing a little heart.

Yes there are the exception to being young AND great for every Kobe and Lebron they're are Ebi Nubi and Robert Swift. IMO mental toughness is not partying at the playboy mansion (who wouldn't) because you are in a playoff series. Amare Stoudamiere was out at a club the night the Suns won their game in San Antonio. So I dont consider what NBA players do off the court has not being focused. Jordan used to fly to Atlantic CIty and gamble all night between playoff games... So is MJ not mentally tough?
We wouldnt be having this discussion if Bynum never got hurt. All we would be saying is Bynum is a beast. Dude was on his way before those injuries. But guess what, injuries are part of the game. Bynum is playing through a torn miniscus right now... so dude is playing hurt. Cant knock him if hes playing injured. 75% percent Bynum is better than 100% of some of those 7 foots stiffs out there right now.

And I wasnt using Bynum age has an excuse. I was using his injuries has to why he isnt living up to his potential. I mentioned age to make a point of hes still young and can recover from the injuries (hopefully) and be productive for the future. But everyone seems to be giving up on him. We, as Laker fans, are spoiled when it comes to our Big Men. So I can see where everyone is coming from.
But remember Bynum is only 21. He still has time to develop and get injury free!!!!

Theres a big difference between asking for a week vacation when youve been employed by a company for 15 years and asking for a week off before youve finished your training period.

Ive had these same reservations about his since the day he was drafted, and i fully believe if he had really put in the gym time he may have been better equiped to withstain from some of these injurys

Im not giving up on him at all i think hell improve and you are correct he has tons of room for potential and if he gets his drive and work ethic up he could be an amazing athlete but the thing about potential is its more common for people to rely on how good they are rather than how good they could be.

Lakers are an easy target to get hated on. We have the most bandwagoners in the NBA since we have the most glorious team in the NBA in such a great (and shitty) city.
As a LA native I have a love/hate relationship (no homo) with Laker fans. People who were born and grew up in LA and are Laker fans = love
People who moved here last week and are "Laker fans" = HATE
People who go to the game who have no clue how to play the game and take up a seat for a real fan which is 1/4 of the stadium = LOATHE
Lakers will never have hardcore, loud, and faithful live crowd (like Jazz, Boston, Sac, GS) simply because we have too many douchey hipsters and casual attenders.

They were on fire last night.
Got to give it up to them for all those 3s.
People were talking about our defense... but from what I saw, our missed 3s gave them chances to run and shoot threes.
I'm not worried...
That was a great game by the suns.
I still think Dragic sucks balls though.

The problem with the Lakers is the coach... Phil Jackson is a mediocre coach. He's the most overrated coach in the NBA. He's absolutely CLUELESS on how to breakdown a zone D.
I found it hilarious that the TNT/ESPN announcers couldn't believe a team couldn't beat a zone D TWICE in a row. Then a moment later, they flashed to Phil Jackson. The man is oblivious and has no idea what to do.
Like I said before:
We won 4 championships with Phil Jackson, but if we had a good coach like Gregg Popovich, we would have won 8 championships.

lol, nawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Phil is a great coach and he knows exactly what to do with a Zone. All you have to do is keep passing and penetrating. That will eventually leave 2 defensive players screened between their own man, leaving somoene open for either a wide open shot or easy layup.
The pheonix girly zone D isn't even stopping the lakers. Their two losses have been due to their own lack of effort on the defensive end. First game, they gave them 42 free throws vs 20 for the lakers, and 2nd game, what was it? 32vs13 i believe? That means that the calls are definately being swayed in pheonix's favor. There were a few plays where gasol was slapped by two men directly in the face. I saw both ref's looking right at him as he STILL made the shot while falling on his ass, but no call. But even though the calls are somewhat lopsided, the lakers are adding to that number significantly by not being ready in transition.
I've watched both games twice and everytime pheonix scores it's because they are too slow to get back on D or because of stupid confused defensive options which lead to open shots or fouls. There is no reason 3 people should be watching nash go inside. He is fucking short as fuck so just let him try to penetrate and make a fade away shot tear drop over a 7 footer! .......just keep your eye on the guys he's going to want to pass it to!

I honesty think its because the league gives the calls to superstars to give them that extra edge to look good....if you give kobe that extra edge hes pissing on everyone, its one thing to give an edge to a superstar and they put up 30 and look awsome, its borring to watch kobe score 70 and beat a team by 30 points. the reason they cought up is because they chipped away from the lead in the 4th quarter. They made a few 3's, traveled their way to the basket, and got to the free throw line for 3 point plays. # of FT doesn't mean that they don't get calls. C'mon.
Look at that list: they're all slashers or big men. Kobe isn't a slasher like Durant or Wade or LeBron is anymore - he's older, which means he's slowed down. You get a lot more foul calls when you attack the rim every time you touch the ball. Unfortunately, 82games hasn't updated for this year, but in 08-09, 21% of Kobe's shots were classified as "inside shots". 59% were "2-point shots", and 19% were 3 point attempts.
By comparison, Durant took 56% from 2, 16% from 3 and 26% from inside. LBJ took 40% from 2, 23% from 3 and 35% from inside. Wade took 49% from 2, 15% from 3 and 34% from inside.
Do you see the difference? Guys who attack the rim more are FAR more likely to get hammered and draw a foul. Wade was fouled on 17% of his shot attempts; Durant 13% (last year mind you, I'm not sure what it is this year); LBJ was 19%; Kobe was just 12%. l the guys you listed above have both higher inside shots attempts and foul % that Kobe outside of Dirk (who was higher in inside shot attempts but 1% lower in foul %).
So yeah, not so getting "moded". Looking simply at FT attempts doesn't tell you anything - it's like looking at batting average to determine who the best hitter in the game is. Kobe gets calls because he's a star - there's no denying that this is a stars league.
To wrap up: you attack the basket more, you get fouled more. This is pretty simple math. Kobe doesn't attack the basket nearly as much as the players listed - and OH YEAH, he's still 11th in total FT attempts - only 3 behind 10th place. Funny how your list ended there. Last year he was 6th in FT attempts, which is AMAZING since he so rarely actually went to attack the rim. This certainly gives credibility to the theory that he gets a lot of calls.
You = owned. It's okay. I do this to Yankee fans too.

I've never been a fan of the numbers argument. If that was the case... Battier would be a shitty player.
Lakers fans watch games and see Kobe drive in and not get the calls. Simple as that.
The only way to prove your argument is if Kobe drives in as much as the #1 free throw shooter and get the same, if not the more than the amount of free throws.
Wasn't Kevin Durant top 5 in getting to the line? That dude is definitely not a slasher.

First get past the Suns.
Durant isn't a slasher? He took 26% of his shots close to the rim - that's not necessarily a slasher but he's certainly getting to the rim more than a quarter of the time. You're simply gonna get more FT attempts that way.
As for "the only way to prove" -- thats absolutely ridiculous and makes no sense. Kobe drives in less than most top FT guys YET he still ranked 6th in FT attempts last year and 11th this year. He gets calls. There's NOTHING wrong with admitting it.

Garnett ain't what he used to be, but then Kobe isn't quite what he was a couple years back (or even last year).
A couple more of years of wear on Pierce & Artest checking him might make him a non-factor. Gasol is playing better than ever; and Bynum is at least there this year, if not really healthy. Lots of factors are in the Lakers' favor.
Boston needs a lot of things to fall into place to compete, but with Rondo as an X-factor they have a legit shot.

No but seriously, that's an assfucking. No lube. Losing by 39 to your rival in a deciding game.
The Celtics came out flat and stayed flat. They aren't afraid of playing games on the road, having beat the teams w/ the two best records in the NBA on their home courts twice (Orlando in game 1 and 2, Cleveland in games 2 and 5). They've won in LA before (I think you remember Game 4 of the 08 finals, yes?). The Lakers came out with a GREAT game plan and executed it perfectly - I can't take that away from them. It's now time for the Celtics to respond and adjust accordingly. I think they do and I think they take Game 2 - I think you're VASTLY underrating how good this Celtics team has played since the start of the playoffs - they've dominated the two best regular season teams and have beaten 3 of the 5 best players in the NBA -- Wade, LBJ and Howard (the other two are Kobe and Durant, IMHO).
Joey Crawford called that game WAY too tight, and that heavily favors the Lakers - a chippy physical game is one they can't handle and will back down from (outside of Artest). The Celtics also went 1 for 10 from 3 - I'm guessing that doesn't happen again for the rest of the series. I'm taking NOTHING away from LA, because Gasol was a monster (8 offensive boards? Wow) and Kobe did his thing.
I think you are all being very, very premature with calling this series over after one game. And I know the stat about Phil Jackson teams after having won Game 1, but if this is the '10 thread, there's no point in bringing that up, right? Moreover, it's a useless stat anyway, since the friggin 1990 Bulls have nothing to do with the 2010 Lakers.
The Celtics came out flat and stayed flat. They aren't afraid of playing games on the road, having beat the teams w/ the two best records in the NBA on their home courts twice (Orlando in game 1 and 2, Cleveland in games 2 and 5). Hold on now.
Kobe broke his finger? Google "Kobe Broken Finger" and see what turns up -- oh, that's right, nothing from 2008. He played 82 games that year - are you telling me that he broke his finger and didn't miss a game (and had 28.3 PPG still)? He had a torn ligament in his pinky finger - try to keep up. That's RADICALLY different than a broken finger (and in fact Kobe has a broken finger right now and is playing pretty damn well... so much for that excuse).
Ariza broke his foot LONG before the playoffs and was back in the series before the Celtics. He was also playing less than 10 minutes a game. Now, would he have helped? Maybe.
Fisher played 82 games as well that year -- and while he had a bad tendon, it didn't affect him much - he averaged 10 points per game - just 1.7 less than during the regular season which is expected since the level of competition is better in the playoffs. Defense are stronger; you're not playing the shit of the league.
Bynum is your ONLY real excuse and let's be frank - he wasn't going to be the reason the Lakers would have turned the series around. 60% is a HUGE overestimation.
God, you guys are like Yankee fans. You have no connection to reality, only what you've come up with in your own mind to create as an excuse.

I know the NBA wants the series to at least go to 6 but cmon now....some of those foul calls were just ridiculous. Took Kobe out of the game completely and totally shifted the momentum. The refs were wearing green last night. Wasn't a fair game as Lakers were playing 5 on 7 the whole game.

I'm not tryin to be the guy who complains about the refs because Allen did have an awesome game and the Lakers for the most part played like shit. But I don't think I've ever seen a game called as bad as last night. They need to take two in Boston.

^ I agree.
I don't think that they were good on either end. I mean, Kobe did have 5 fouls, but so did half of the Celtics. So its not like he was the only one in foul trouble. If I remember correctly, all of the Celtic big men were treading with 4 fouls most of the time.
I gotta say though, Rondo is awesome! Funny how this is Rondo's 2nd triple double of the playoffs (i think they said 10th overall in his career) and Kobe hasn't had one yet. Not sparking a debate on who is better b/c I would take Kobe before Rondo if I was making a team, but Rondo would be a close 2nd.

All against the Lakers?
KG was on the bench in the first three minutes. All the Celtics big men had fouls. AND, the Lakers took WAYYY more foul shots (41 to 26) AND that's with the Celtics getting hacked at the end of the game just to put them on the line -- 10 of the Celtics 26 FT attempts came in the last 72 seconds of the game. So yeah, not exactly fair there.
FWIW, Kobe would have had to have raped someone on the court to get his 6th foul. Literally raped someone. Which isn't something I'd put past him.

I don't know. He barely even breathed on Rondo to get his 5th. There were some really crappy calls down the stretch. If the Lakers didn't fold like a lawn chair down the stretch so badly that it didn't matter, the Lakers fans would definitely have the right to bitch.
Props to those who called for 6 or 7 games. The Lakers' fold in crunch time last night was almost as bad as Boston not even showing up for game 1...

They were bad calls all game. There were two foul calls I remember very specifically against the Celtics that, on replay, looked NOTHING like a foul. Like, all ball, no contact. Way worse than even that out of bounds call at the end of the game that went the Celtics way -- you can see both black and white fingers touching it as it goes out of bounds. It couldn't have been any closer and the refs can't spend an hour investigating it. They made a call and there wasn't overwhelming video evidence to overturn it.

BUT Perkins foul on Kobe call when he was falling away shooting was shit. Dude didn't even touch Kobe.

Last night refereeing was shit for both sides.
You homers need to open your eyes.
We lost because of Rondo's 2nd chance rebounds that led to points and kept the momentum with the Celtics.
Lamar played like shit. Fisher's defense on Allen was shit. Kobe was in the flow. Artest offense was shit. Shannon is dumb as a rock, why are you double teaming PERKINS? Farmar always tries to hit a homerun when he just a singles guy.

Both of the 2 worst calls down the stretch went against LA: Gasol/Garnett OOB play (dude said on one of those talk shows on ESPN that they either should have called a foul on Gasol or given LA the ball- off of Gasol wasn't an option if you looked at the right replay) & Kobe PF on Rondo. But the Lakers screwed up enough other shit that they almost certainly would have lost anyway.

Magic said was he thought the Celts would win game 3. Im sure he doesnt believe they will win the series.
Paul Pierce has been taking out of the series cus he cant bully Ron Ron like he bullied Trevor Ariza in 08. Paul was stronger and bigger than anyone we threw at him in 08. But this year is a totally dif story. He cant get to his go to spots on the floor cuz Ron is just to strong.
Plus i think Rondos emergence has taking away a lot of Pierce's shots. He use to be the one in the pick and rolls... now Rondo is taking those plays. Pierce is getting less touches.
Bynum has been playing really well. If he was 100%, no way Perkins could guard him.

The reason they lost is because Bynum wasn't in the game 2nd half. Pau isn't a true center and easily gets beasted on defense. With Bynum in he takes over defense in the paint and rebounds. While Pau can roam around and play the first line of defense

My thoughts:
Block call on Kobe in the last 2 minutes should have been a obvious charge on Pierce. Weren't they in the bonus? Kobe would have had 2 free throws that could have closed it to 4.
The Celtics whole second unit (esp. Big Baby & Nate Robinson) got on a roll, fired up the crowd and played great in the 4th. The starters came back and nearly blew the lead the bench had built. Playing at home is usually when bench players do their best, so it'll be interesting to see what Big Baby & NR do from here out. They sure made the 4th fun to watch last night. What's better than seeing Big Baby all hyped up flexing, yelling and drooling? As for the question about how he gets off those shots over Gasol & Bynum: he was using his wide body and/or the rim as a shield. It's pretty obvious somebody's been working with him on that. As for his rebounds: it's in the positioning and the effort, not the vertical reach or leap.
It's probably still the Lakers' series to lose. But the chance Boston wins it all is definitely on the table again, especially if they take game 5. And the Celtics second unit is now REALLY fun to watch.

I agree, def a charge but if I remember correctly (well back when I played ball in high school), you don't shoot free throws on an offensive foul even if you are in the penalty. Not sure its the same for NBA but I think it is. Any rate, that was an obvious charge. Again there were tons of bad calls but I think this was the best officitated game we have seen thus far.
You are 100% correct about big baby, He played great with a lot of heart. Rebounding is all about position. Dennis Rodman lead the league in rebounding how many years and he was not the biggest or tallest dude by any means, its about position.
Also, he did a great job of finishing tough shots. For a big guy he has a lot finesse around the rim. He goes up strong but finishes soft to make sure he gets the bucket and the foul. Kudos to him for a great game.

The Celtics have to like their chances right now. They've already won in LA once.
Even if the Lakers win 2 games and pull it out, they've really been exposed. Time for some serious retooling in the offseason. For one thing, I bet they wish they still had Ariza instead of Artest about now...

What? hell no.
Ariza got hot during the playoffs. During the season his shooting sucked balls. He got manhandled by Melo and was getting manhandled by Artest when Artest was with the Rockets. Kobe had to play Artest b/c Ariza couldn't. Even though we won the champion against the Magic, don't forget that the Magic had a chance to tie it because Hedo was going off against Ariza. Ariza made a couple of great steals and shot a great percentage on 3s b/c he got hot.
you guys are telling me Ariza would have made a difference against the Celtics. Pierce would have taken him to the post all the time and he would have gotten killed.
The grass is always greener on the other side and don't believe in the Press, they are as stupid as you and I.
Think about it. The Press is always throw the ball inside when they talk about the Lakers. Did you see the Laker big men get manhandles yesterday. The guards couldn't throw it inside b/c Gasol nor Odom could get position inside and because they bitched out when they did get the ball.

Like Dub said: " these fuckers are rich and won't care if they win or loose, they still get paid at the end of the day" It's only a few that still put the game first and then all the other stuff that comes with it.
Which then leaves the fans (us) complaining and wining for a day or so and on to the next season.

Regardless if the C's don't have a full squad, there will still be a bunch of "IF'S" for Boston fans that's just the norm for them.
It will be a close game but once the Lakers see an opening to improve the lead they will definitely take advantage being that they're home which seems to help boost the players.

I doubt Perkins will play that injury looked pretty serious.Regardless if the C's don't have a full squad, there will still be a bunch of "IF'S" for Boston fans that's just the norm for them.
It will be a close game but once the Lakers see an opening to improve the lead they will definitely take advantage being that they're home which seems to help boost the players.
Tomorrow will be a good day for L.A!
THE NORM??!?!? Seriously, get your head out of your ass. "IF'S" is all I heard after the Celtics beat your Lakers down in Game 6 of 2008. "Oh, if Ariza hadn't been hurt... if Bynum was healthy..." blah. blah. blah.

I hope the Laker fans do not think that Paul Pierce is the only player to "flop" in this series. Derek Fisher and Ron Artest have both shown their acting chops, not to mention Kobe has a tantrum everytime he gets called for a foul, like he's above getting called.
I'm not saying the C's don't play physical basketball, or they don't do any of the above, but don't think for a second the Lakers don't this.

So you're using one in-game example to define a players career?
Just to be clear, Paul Pierce was stabbed 11 times and nearly died - on September 25, 2000. The season started less than 35 days later and he came back and played in all 82 games and scored over 2000 points.

Ron Artest is the fucking shit!!!! He dumb as fuck but he challenged a whole stadium. That is on some gangsta shit.
Pau Gasol plays with a bunch of black people. If he is a racist, he must clean himself almost with alcohol every fucking day b/c the NBA is predominantly black. That being said, have you ever been to Spain? They are way ahead of us culture wise.

3 times in this playoffs the Celtics have gotten trounced in a game and the next time out they've shown up and won.
-lost by 9 to the Heat, which doesn't show how lopsided that game was.
-lost by 29 to the Cavs, won by 10 the next game.
-lost by 21 to the Magic, won by 12 the next game.
I have very few concerns about Game 6. Also, Sheed can get one tech today without it mattering. Hooray!

But yeah, he really is a racist.
Let me ask you Lakers fans something: do you find it hard to root for Kobe? Knowing what he did to that woman in the hotel room? I mean, I get that he paid her off, but you, me and God all know what happened in there. I know my friend can't root for Ben Roethlisberger anymore. Are you facing a crisis of conscience over it?
I know when Wil Cordero beat his wife and threw her down a flight of stairs, I had my issues with it (I was young, too). And when I heard about Robert Parish hitting his wife (after retirement, mind you), that really bothered me and frankly tainted him opinion of him.
So, like, we all know that Kobe Bryant raped some woman and got away with it. How does that make you feel about him?

Hell yah. I hope Bryant burns in motherfucking hell.
Now if you weren't there and you are making assumption over articles you read over the internet and from some facts of the case.... then NO.
On a side note.... which sounds a little bad....... If you were brutally raped.... would you take the money and shutup? or would you look for justice? Does that show a person's character in regards to whichever choice he/she chooses?
See I can spin it a thousand ways because I don't really know what happened and think of a bunch of bullcrap arguments for both sides. Justsayin.

I honestly believe that any woman who takes the money is doing a disservice to women who have been raped. It's like saying "you can sexually force yourself onto me if you're going to pay me $X money". That's wrong to me.
Let's put it this way: if Kobe didn't rape her, why pay her off? He was innocent, why not fight the case the whole way? An innocent man fights off the tag of such an heinous crime from hanging around his neck. A guilty man pays off his accuser to try to bury what he did.
I don't pretend to know what happened that day. What I know is what I've read, and from what I (and anyone else not rooting for the purple & gold tonight) honestly believe.
I'm just trying to get into the mind of a fan of a rapist, that's all. Help me out here guys!

Lakers attempted 21 FT's in the 4th quarter. Only 2 were of the intentional variety. So they basically took more FT's in the 4th quarter than the Celtics did all game. Nothing like bailing out a team that shot 32% from the field. The Lakers outscored the Celtics 16-5 in free throws. Anyone claiming the refs weren't the biggest factor in this 4th quarter is willfully ignoring the facts.
The game was called one way for three quarters -- then in the fourth an ENTIRELY different way. If the Celtics had simply been out-executed, I could deal with it. But they weren't. They shot better percentages than LA in FG, 3PT, and FT. The Lakers won with volume of FTs.
I'm past disappointment at the loss and have reached the stage of furious anger that I even have to think about the officiating. I mean, what the fuck? Only in the NBA. I don't want to think about the refs. I hate blaming the refs. I'm not even blaming the refs but holy FUCK did they choke the life out of that game.
What a fucking blast the first three quarters were. I thought I was watching a different, better NBA, one that understood when to say when. And now here I am rubbing my ass and wondering how such a giant lead pipe was shoved up there without me noticing. I don't think I can quit the NBA but fuck am I pissed. What a shame. This could have been one of the greatest, regardless of winner. Refs just had to put their stamp on it.

I think, as always and as is natural, they fell into the rhythm of the game and the home team. It is a hard phenomenon to stop and I don't think "cleaning up" will do it. Really it's a hard question. I'm going to be honest. I think the reffing was brutal in that 4th quarter but I don't think it was unusual. I don't think there is a conspiracy but I also wonder what my emotional investment should be. It's a tough game to officiate and at this level it happens so fast but...I don't know. I just don't. The NBA may no longer be for me.

Do the fucking math, you jackhole. Look at the numbers. Take your head out of your gold and purple asshole and realize that you were, for better or worse, HANDED the game in the 4th quarter. That's no fault of the Lakers mind you.

The FT discrepancy decided the game tonight, more than Allen's poor shooting, more than Artest's 3. That game was fucking decided, by the refs, in the fourth quarter. Make no mistake about it.

I tip my hat to the Celtics though, they did not make it easy for the champs, and they scrapped the whole way. You can't ask for more.

GOOD ASS GAME! Way better than the Celtics blowout win in 08. One of the best Championship games I've seen in a while. Most championships end in about 6 games. It was awesome it came down to game 7 and you knew one of them was gonna come out champions at the end of the game. It was kinda like the superbowl of basketball.
The Celtics did a good ass job making up for Perkins out. The lakers just had a few more key plays down the stretch

1. Ha ha dj lad (points finger)...how ya like them apples huh?
2. Now we're 8-1 in the finals against the celtics...this is only the beginning.
3. Kendrick Perkins got told to sit down and shut the fuck up in the 2nd Q
4. Boston got told to sit down and STFU in the 4th Q
5. Reffing was bad...but it was equally bad on both sides and throughout the entire series
6. DID BEAN TOWN REALLY THINK THEY WERE GONNA COME IN TO OUR HOUSE AND GET A WIN?? Get the fuck right out of here!

Ok, so D'Antoni and Amar'e are reunited....Is this any better than when Amar'e was running with Nash, Marion, Barbosa and Bell?
D'Antoni and Amare failed in PHX, how are they going to legitimize the Knicks franchise now that Amare is more banged up?

Agreed that Kobe was the man in crunch time in the gold medal game. But isn't it a bit of a stretch to say Lebron was just watching?

Not really.. if you watched... the last couple of minutes... everyone deferred to Kobe and stood there.

With Amare and most likely Boozer going to Eastern Conference teams and no impact player likely to join a Western Conference team, Lakers should have a lock on the Finals for next year.

During the Olympic Medal Game Lebron watched because he was in foul trouble most of the game (due to a few bad calls) and also is publicly on record for saying in the 4th Quarter to Kobe, "It's Black Mamba Time!"

You guys know what no meniscus gets you? especially a point guard? microfacture surgery in the near future. CP3 is done. He is going to be CP3 lite, just like Jason Kidd after his surgery.

Kobe + Gasol > Dwade + Bosh
With Bosh going to Miami, LeBron should really think about going to Chicago

but then again, they call him Ason Kidd (he's got no "J").
Having no jumper probably gave him a couple extra years in the league LOL

Jason Kidd is still going semi strong at 38ish+1
You guys aren't serious.
Jason kidd sucks. He can't guard anybody these days, he can't drive to the hole, and his jumper is now a stand still 3 point shot.
He sucks.

Chicago needs to pick up Boozer. They need a low post presence. He'll be a nice fit with the Bulls since his lack of defense can be somewhat compensated by Noah's hustle.
A line up of Rose, Deng, Boozer, Noah (can't think of who is the 2 guard LOL), is good enough to bang with the big boys in the Eastern Conference.
