Searto will not run right. stars to load crates then crashes giving me a runtime error visual libaray message.

google for the (exact) runtime error, in the results look for a download from microsoft

are you actually running 1.9.1?
Polanka 11:42 PM - 22 September, 2009
I have encountered the same issue and have had no luck fixing this. Try installing the 1.9.0 version and the problem will go away. Its an issue with 1.9.1 and how it loads your library. Have you received an error where its states out of memory? I have reinstalled the operating system and formated my external music library to see if it would help but now luck. I am hoping they will release a new version soon that will work for me.

Hi Dj Crop Diggie,

Can you please cut and paste the exact error message you are getiing?
Dj Crop Diggie 2:25 AM - 23 September, 2009
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!

Program:C:/Program/Serato/ScratchLIVE/ScratchLIVE.exe
Dj Crop Diggie 2:40 AM - 23 September, 2009
Yeah my computer keeps say out virtual memory. Increased my memory, not only that I have over 300gb on a 500gb drive. It's driving me crazy!
Dj Crop Diggie 3:18 AM - 23 September, 2009
I tried reloading 1.90 and that did not fix the problem! This really blows!
Polanka 4:29 PM - 23 September, 2009
DJ Crop Diggie I have been experiencing the same issue and believe me it has been a pain to try to troubleshoot this problem. It has nothing to do with you operating system or memory size. I am 100 certain that the problem has to do with 1.9.1 and I can show you how to get it working. Rename both scratch live folders from your c: drive and external drive and run scratchlive and you will see that the error is gone now import all your music at once and after scanning thru your files it will begin to give you the error once again. OK now uninstall 1.9.1 and install 1.9.0 and again rename both scratchlive folders and run scratchlive and import all your music and you will see no errors what so ever. I believe the reason it did not work when you installed the 1.9.0 version is because once you begin to get that error in 1.9.1 it corrupts your Database file and it will not work anymore. To get mine working I had to redo all my crates and now its working with version 1.9.0 and have 1.9.1 installed as well and only use 1.9.1 when performing but if your importing new music or making new crates I go back and do all this with version 1.9.0. I know i shouldn't have to got thru all this to have a stable Serato install but have gave up cause I had not heard of any one else having the same issue. I am glad and relieved that you are having the same issue. It really is a bad problem that I hope the Serato team gets resolved in the new version of serato. Just to let you know I have received the error on all operating systems (XP SERVICE PACK3\VISTA SERVICE PACK1\WINDOWS 7 32BIT\ WINDOWS7 64BIT). So i know that it is not the operating system I also have tried two different XPS laptops and have had the same problem so its not a hardware problem. The only thing that is the same is my music library and I suspect because it works in 1.9.0 and it errors out in 1.9.1 that the way 1.9.1 reads my library is different and detects corrupt files that 1.9.0 does not or is incompateable with some of my music files. We might be able to get to the bottom of the issue if the Serato Support team is able to informs us on what changes where made in terms of how it reads and processes the database file. I know it loads much faster in 1.9.1 so something did change.
Dj Crop Diggie 7:01 PM - 23 September, 2009
Polanka,

Thanks I did what u said and it worked! Only problem I'm having now is that I can't figure out how to get it to load my old crates that were already named. Can load all my mp3 cause I have then on other drives, but can't figure out how to get them to load. Most of my crates are named after gigs that are stored in the SL folder on the c:drive. Any soulutions would help. Again thanks!
Polanka 7:18 PM - 23 September, 2009
To get all your crates back just open the scratchlive folders you renamed both on the c: and the external drive and copy the subcrates folder to the new scratchlive folders that were created. Remember for the C drive copy the subcrates to the C drive scratchlive folder and for the external copy the external subcreates within the scratchlive renamed folder to the new scratchlive folder. This should work. Just remember not to use 1.9.1 until you have finalized making all your changes and before you fire up .1.9.1 make sure to back up both scratchlive folders.

Hi Dj Crop Diggie & Polanka,

Quote:

There were quite a few changes made in 1.9.1 to the library:

Quote:
Library

- ALAC encoded audio inside mpeg-4 containers will now import into your library.

- Scroll bars in the library now have up/down and left/right buttons on them.

- You can now search in the browse panel by typing while the browse panel has focus.

- The mouse cursor now changes to a resize cursor when the mouse is over the column resize hotspot.

- Fixed bug where after rescanning ID3 tags, LiveFeed tracks would be marked as missing (pink).

- Fixed cursor flicker when dragging a song library track around.

- Improved library load times.

- Improved crate load times.

- Improved performance when opening and closing the Browse panel.

- Fixed bug where some Genre tags would revert to "other".

- Fixed bug where when making multiple edits with the colour chooser and then not accepting the changes in the pop up window then selecting another track, the selection would revert to the first of the previous selection.

- Fixed bug where if you recalculate a bpm for a track which already has an auto-bpm value, it would ignore the 'bpm range' menu setting for that track.

- Fixed bug where it was not possible to drop a crate under the collapsed iTunes playlist.

- Fixed bug where in the all crate, if the first column was sized to its smallest, restarting Scratch Live would change the size of this column.

- Fixed bug where multiple tag edits would not work when using the 'ctrl + left/right/up/down' or tab shortcuts.

What would be useful would be if we could get a crash dump from either of you, we can then look into it more and try to figure out what is happening. There are articles on how to get crash dumps here:

Windows XP -> www.serato.com
Windows Vista -> www.serato.com

If you do get a crash dump please attach it to this thread :)

~With regards to your problem with Serato 1.9.1, you appear to have multiple issues that do lie with your operating system and settings. The virtual memory on your computer has nothing to do with how many gigs you have on your hard drives. It has to do with a size setting for a paging file that your computer uses like RAM. You may need to adjust it so as to allow your computer more space for virtual memory. You must go to your control panel and select "System" and then click on the "Advanced" tab. Now under the top section labeled "Performances" click the "Settings" button. Now in this window you will also select the "Advanced" tab and there you should see a section regarding "Virtual Memory". You need to find out what the recommended size is for your system setup. Also you should probably get yourself an upgrade for your RAM if you don't have one already. To run Serato I have the max 4GB to keep me running without problems.

Polanka wrote "Just to let you know I have received the error on all operating systems (XP SERVICE PACK3\VISTA SERVICE PACK1\WINDOWS 7 32BIT\ WINDOWS7 64BIT). ~I have Serato 1.9.1 up and running on a Windows Vista Ultimate x64 laptop and the x32 version on my desktop and I am not having any problems at all as of yet. So I know it isn't Serato 1.9.1 that is the problem exactly. The "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!" issue is different than the virtual memory problem. This error usually pops up when you are having compatibility issues with either the program that gives you the error and your OS or the program that gives you the error and another installed program. Like it was stated above, if you want to solve your problem instead of doing a bunch of work-arounds, you should get a crash dump to figure out what is happening that causes the problems. As more updates get released, your problems are only likely to get far worse if you don't solve the problem. You can also go to the support site for the manufacturer of your computer and get all the updated drivers for your hardware if you don't have them already. Be sure all your software on your computer is updated as well. Also be sure that you have the latest windows updates for your OS. Those step could help resolve compatibility issues. Also make sure you know what processes start up when your computer starts up and try turning off all the ones that are not absolutely necessary while you run Serato. I use ProcessExplorer.exe from the Microsoft website and run as administrator so that I control all my services and processes while playing. Also Autoruns.exe from the Microsoft site is an awesome tool to help fine tune your system while running Serato. Just be sure you know what your doing before changing any of your system settings or you could have more problems to deal with.

Sorry for the long post, but I will be away from internet access for some time, and may be unable to follow up here if there are more questions. I hope this helps someone. ;)

Ok I finally have time to troubleshoot this issue. I have found a work around but I would like your assistance with getting this issue fixed by your technical team. Basically all corrupt files have been deleted and I have rebuild the database folder and built overviews for all my music. Every thing works fine when running 1.9.0. The minute I upgrade to 1.9.1 I get and error saying that there is not enogh memory while closing serato. I have also tried the 1.9.2 release3 version and had the same error. I have been able to replicate the error on all operating systems XP,Vista32, Vista 64, Windows 7 32/Windows 7 64 and all of them work fine with 1.9.0 and all of them get the error when i upgrade to 1.9.1 or 1.9.2. I have attached a zip file containing the error and hope to get this resolved soon. I have also been able to replicate the same error on another laptop the issue only happens with the 1.9.1 version and 1.9.2 release 3. I have run a scandisk on my external drive that contains all my music and found no errors. I have about 900 gigs of music and my laptop has 4 gig of ram and a dual core 2.6 processor. My external drive is 1 terabyte in size and has about 100 gigs of free space. My local driver is 160 gigs with 100 gigs of free space.

Visual C++Run time libaray ------------ I also get this error just trying to play a track from my library. It doesnt matter I could pick any track an it will crash and give me this error. this error goes hand in hand with the out of memory error I get. Like stated before this has been replicated across all windows operating systems and two identical laptops with plenty of memory and hard disk space. attached is a zip file with the error details.

Hi Polanka,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Unfortunately the information you've provided doesn't give us any indepth information as to what has caused this problem. Were you able to follow the steps in the previous links as to how to get a crash dump?

Can you please open Control Panel and go to System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory, how much virtual memory does it say you have?

3070 MB I have also played with this setting even raising it to 10000 MB and still I receive this error only on any version after 1.9.0.

Hi Polanka,

Are you able to zip up the _ScratchLIVE_ folder from your external hard drive and attach it to this thread?
Polanka 4:23 PM - 15 October, 2009
scratchlive.net

I have already uploaded both my local and external Scratch live folder to the link above. Would you like me to attach it to this discussion as well?
Michael R 4:05 AM - 16 October, 2009
Thanks for that, you don't need to attach them to this discussion :)

I can replicate your error on my XP machine. I'll get the dev team to look at your files, they're quite busy at the moment so please allow a few days for them to get to it.
Michael R 4:28 AM - 23 October, 2009
Hey Polanka,

Thanks for your patience :)

It looks like your issue has been fixed in the final release of 1.9.2. Could you please download it and try it out? You can get it here -> www.serato.com (click link)
Polanka 3:53 PM - 23 October, 2009
I am so happy!!! Finally!! I am going to try it as soon as I get home tonight!! Thank you so much!!
Polanka 9:52 PM - 24 October, 2009
I tried it with the latest release and it crashed again with the same error.
Polanka 12:25 AM - 26 October, 2009
Looks like I am stuck using the older version 1.9.0.
Polanka 10:04 PM - 26 October, 2009
Is there I work around?
Michael R 2:53 AM - 29 October, 2009

That's odd :-/ Using your _ScratchLIVE_ folder I could recreate the issue you were having running 1.9.1, but I can now open it fine running 1.9.2 (19222).

I'll try and take another look at the folder and see what's going on...
Michael R 4:38 AM - 30 October, 2009
Hey Polanka,

Can you please try this:

1) Run Scratch Live 1.9.2 (19222) without your external hard drive connected.
2) Wait for any files and crates to load then close Scratch Live down.
3) Re-open Scratch Live.
4) Wait for any files and crates to load and then attach your external hard drive.

Does it still crash?
Polanka 3:50 PM - 2 November, 2009
Michael,

I tried it and it worked!! I can now use the latest version without crashing. The only problem now is that it will always crash with the same error when closing the program. I have to force it to shut down every time.
Michael R 11:48 PM - 4 November, 2009
Great! Ok so we're slowly getting there ;)

So you now get the "out of memory" error when you close Scratch Live? And this happens every time?
Polanka 12:29 AM - 5 November, 2009
Yes
Polanka 12:30 AM - 5 November, 2009
Every time I exit scratchlive it will give me the out of memory error.
Polanka 12:43 AM - 5 November, 2009
How can i fix that?
Michael R 4:16 AM - 6 November, 2009
Hey Polanka,

Can you try renaming the database V2 file (eg. to old_database V2) in the _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external drive and running 1.9.2 (19222) again. Does it still give this error when you close Scratch Live now?
xxlunaticfosho 1:26 AM - 9 November, 2009
i get this same error to with the new version of SSL im still using 1.9.0 and it works fine i always thought it was Vista???????? i guess not i still like xp better anyway but i guess i'll just stick to my 1.9.0 until 1.9.3 comes out or something........LOL......but if there is something to do please let me kno........THANNKKSSS
Polanka 11:17 PM - 9 November, 2009
Michael, I renamed and rebuild the database file and still got the same error.
Michael R 3:11 AM - 10 November, 2009
Ok, that's not good. Can you please attach the latest database V2 file from your external hard drive to this thread. Thanks!
Polanka 9:45 PM - 17 November, 2009

Michael R 3:18 AM - 9 December, 2009
Hey Polanka,

Believe it or not we're still looking into it, there's something very strange happening there...

We'll keep you posted, hopefully we'll find the problem soon!
Polanka 8:05 PM - 12 January, 2010
Any update on this?
Michael R 3:41 AM - 19 January, 2010
Hey Polanka,

Yep we're still working on it. The development team are busy with 2.0 but are aware of this issue and I know they're chipping away at it :)
djvicny 4:18 PM - 22 March, 2010
I am having some major issues like this also with 1.9.2. Still waiting on Tech support to get back to me. I updated my laptop to Windows 7. I am getting runtime erros with Serato. The funny thing is that, if I use my internal hard drive and it's folders, I am ok. If i rename the internal folder and deactivate the crates from loading, i can plug my External Hard drive and everything is ok. When i connect both the system crashes every time. This is odd. Anyone else having this issue with Windows 7. I have not been able to get much help yet..
LJ_WOOLSEY 4:23 PM - 22 March, 2010
i belive this has now been fixed in 2.0. go check it out and give it a try. its in the RC stage now. but you will want to download 2.0 RC1 not RC2... or if by the time you read this make sure you download 2.0 above RC2...

cheers.
Michael R 9:12 PM - 22 March, 2010
Hey djvicny,

Do you have a help thread open already for your issues? If so could you please give me a link to it. Thanks :)
