at the store the rep said to just go to the site to download the new software with running the cd, is this a good idea? also do i need to hook up the sl 1 to the pc before running any software. Or should i run the cd then upgrade to 1.6.1. please help i dont want to screw up my pc or software.

The only way you're gonna know is by trying it out! Don't about screwing up your set-up. Its not like its a virus or something. Just make sure you've read up the stuff on here that everyone has kindly posted so you wont get stuck!!!

On Windows you will also need to install the drivers. You can either download these or use the ones on the CD (they are the same). The using the drivers from the CD is easiest, just put the CD in, cancel any installers that start. Plug in the SL 1 then choose find drivers automatically and choose to continue on the security warning. Then repeat that process for each USB port on your system.

(thinking about the new mac commercial where the mac talks to the new japanese digital camera right away while the pc is like "uh, bonjourno.....?")
