This is coming from a hip hop Pioneer/legend, hits it right on the head about how the game is getting twisted these days.

sixxx I know you don't have facebook, but basically its a video testimonial done by Cut Creator about how the game is so twisted right now.
He is LL's music director, still works with him. He decided he wanted to work more clubs and parties into his schedule, he sent letters out to booking agents/managment co.'s etc. He got one back that requested him submit a couple of demo's.
I could understand if this was me asking, but apparently this guy responding to his letter has no clue who he is lol, Cut just makes the point that people don't know their hip hop history. That's all, no appreciation for where the art came from. This cat is pioneer, and still rocks a set to this day. Its just funny how hollywood everything has become.

In all fairness Cut Creator isn't the best known of back up djs. I didn't even know he was still active as a dj. He's not a DJ Scratch or Evil Dee or Maseo or someone like that.

I think his ego was shot when the promoter ask him for a demo. According to him, in order to be a promoter who wants hip-hop played at the venue you need to know who DJ Cut Creator is? C'mon....
Caramac
12:49 PM - 29 July, 2009
Agreed. I mean who is Cut Creator to the average Joe? Who is he to the average hip hop head? I'm racking my brains to think what he's done since the 80's aside from a few cuts here. LL never shouts him out, he's not produced anything as far as I know. Not a diss to the man because I'd give my right arm to dj for a vet like LL but he's just a nobody in the scheme of things.
You think back up djs you think, Premo, Pete Rock, Evil Dee, Scratch, Mister Cee, Babu, Roc Raider etc etc Not Cut Creator.

Maybe but I suppose it depends on what he actually put onhis resume/cv.
To be honest I'm kind of in one of those arguing moods so lol feel free to ignore me although my comment on him not being as famous as he probably thinks he is stands.

"What's my DJ's name?"
"Cut Creator!"
I love that record. I remember I was in a battle with that dude about 10 years ago. He had a pretty good routine, but it was kinda gimmicky. This guy beatmatched two records walks off the stage to order a drink and comes back during his set. Then I think he did the whole play a record backwards by putting the needle on upside down thing. It wasn't mixed properly, but the judges liked it. He came in first, I was second. I was just honored to be in a competition with him.

Or maybe the promoter had some automatic generic response that goes out to everyone who E-Mails him. Like an out of office response....I don't know but I know he got hurt by that.

I just think that regardless, do some homework before you write a letter. Like buddy said, there is plenty of his recent stuff available for download and view on youtube. I do an online radio show right before he does his.
Its out there, but my beef is that although maybe he is not as prevelent as a dj preimer, this dude helped to pave the way for all dj's, LL was the first act signed to def jam, this cat has been down from the get go. Not taking away from any of those dj's mac.

..i don't know,..this video is a waste of time..i think by now everyone knows the hip-hop game is twisted..making that video is not going to help out anybody..he should be working on the demo, if he is as good as he says it should take him a couple of minutes...instead he decided to make a facebook video geeezzz

And like I said I'm not trying to shit on the guy because he's done more than I ever will have in hip hop. I'm just saying If I was him in this day and age and got a letter like that from a promoter I wouldn't be publicly moaning about it.

And the other thing (again lol I'm in the mood to argue today).
There are countless old school djs who were once pioneers who for want of a better way of putting things have ''basic'' mixing skills with bigger names then Cut Creator. Jazzy and Scratch aside who can run rings round most of today's djs. Is it wrong that a promoter asks for a current demo to see what he's letting himself into?
I mean how piss would you be booking LL Cool J's dj expecting to get some rnb party rocker and some old guy gets up and does a 12 min routine of Take me to the Mardi Gras?

Exactly so if these people who are easily more relavant then Cut Creator don't ring bells with your average Joe how is Cut Creator going to. I mean I can think of one tune from the mid to late 80's that he's on. One song! I wouldn't be in any rush to book him.

I just think your ego got hurt a lil bit. Don't take it so personal. Youre pretty irrelevant in todays club scene and face it, hip hop is pretty dead right now. damn, we got celebrities on here.
Cut Creator, tell LL he owes me some money for some dental work. Back in 87 I went to the Def Jam '87 concert to see him at the Norfolk Scope arena.
Being only 16 at the time and originally from Cali I wasn't aware of black/white racial tension in Virginia. I was the only white dude at the show and a group of guys didn't take kindly to my "kind" being there. Guy #1 wanted my DefJam tshirt and I didn't agree with him. All his boys (all grown ass men) surrounded me and commenced to an ass beating. I guess they got tired, or their fists started hurting cause they split kinda quickly.
I was laying there in a small puddle of blood with a dangling front tooth, but I still managed to have the tshirt on.

I am about the same age as Cut Creator, "Things done changed" in this new age of music.
When I watched the video and thought about the post, I looked at from the side of the agent. Cut Creator was cool back in the day, but is he marketable enough to command X price to fill Y venue.
Agent thinks "I'd better get a demo to see what his show is like to see how I can market this guy".
A few old school legends are running around now as DJ's like Biz Markie, I have no clue what his DJ performance would be like.

Easy Cut Creator. Hope none of what I said was taken as a diss because you've done more in hip hop then I probably ever will and that I respect. All I was trying to say and this is more from the average Joe's point of view is that if me as a 30 year old hip hop head can only remember you from the 80's then I'm sure you're going to struggle to sell yourself to promoters/punters who aren't hip hop heads.
I mean I don't know anything you've done since the 80's and I'm not some hip hop newb. I got my rare breaks. I got some LP's that would shock some people on here. I've gone to underground shows for years etc etc. I'm also (and I hate to admit this as a guy lol) a big LL fan. He's one of the best role models black people have. He's a very positive brother and makes good music and has stayed relevant all these years. That aside, I had no idea you were still working with him musically or as a dj. I've not seen your name on any credits for production/cuts etc. I had a quick glance at the Mr Smith album as I had it to hand yesterday and there was no mention of you at all as musical director or anything etc. All my other albums are back at my parents so couldn't check those but what I'm trying to say is some of the onus is on you to make yourself more of a commodity in today's music scene.
As for the back up dj. I'm not sure if there is a technical term but that's what I call an act's supporting DJ. Think Gangstarr you think Premo. Think EPMD you think Scratch. Think Mobb you think Alchemist etc etc. I didn't even know LL had a back up dj. I kind of just assumed he worked off DATs. As for the others like Premo, Scratch, Evil Dee. As a promoter if you were to book them you'd have a kind of idea of what you were getting for your money due to the music they produce, the cuts they provide, the mix tapes they put out etc. Like I said all I know and I'm sure most people know is that you did some cuts (good ones) back in the 80's. I mean what do you play at a set?
But basically all I'm trying to say is that yeah a promoter should have a bit more savvy and do a bit of a research but you have to kind of look at it from his/her point of view. They probably get approached by a million dj's of various skills with various different histories behind them. Its no different to any of us approaching someone. If our name doesn't carry the weight we think it does then we need to show and prove.

So we met LL, and this is a good story I am going to tell you right here. The first time we met LL we was nervous and excited because Jam Master Jay, I was always real close with Jason, he had always told me that if me and this rapper named LL ever hooked up it was going to be ridiculous. That's what he used to tell me, so I already had that in my mind. So anyway, and no disrespect to my man Cut (Cut Creator) because me and him still talk and as a matter of fact he's a part of our organization (The Foundation). So anyway, we was in the studio and LL was like "Yo, let me see something. Whats up?" so I got on the turntables and I acted like I couldn't cut. I would do like these sorry little scratches and then I would act like the record was skipping. LL, he's real impatient so he's like "Yo, yo! C'mon man, let my man Cut Creator show you. He's from New York!". So Cut Creator got on and he started doing his thing. So I sat back and watched, then I said "Yo, can I get another shot? Can I try one more time?" and he was like "Sure, ok, c'mon. What you gonna do?". I said, "Can I warm up first?" and he was like "Sure, I don't care". Now in the studio normally you know you have just one turntable hooked up just for the purposes of scratching. So I asked, "Can I hook up both turntables?" and once again he was like "Sure, I don't care". So I hooked both of the tables up and I started cutting "Rock The Bells"…(Mimics Scratching) and I started going off on "Rock The Bells" and he, I can't even explain to you, and he'll tell you if you ever interview him and if you interview him ask him about this story. He…Went…Crazy! You feel me? Because again, we (West Coast DJ's) were like light years ahead of them at this time. I know DJ's in New York is bananas now, but then we was so far ahead. So he was like "You gotta join my crew and you gotta to on tour". I was like, "Naw. I DJ for Breeze" because I am a loyal cat. This was a life changing invitation but I was like "Naw, I DJ for Breeze". He said, "talk to Breeze".When I went to Breeze I was like "Morgan…LL wants me to " and he cut in "Man, I just knew he was going to do that" (laughs).
I forgot about Bobcat.
Now that I remember, LL had 2 dj's behind him (I think)
Somehow, I do remember buying this record when it was new
www.discogs.com
and then throwing it out cause I was a bit disappointed

I remember going to concerts and LL would showcase Bob Cat....what's your name...Bob bob ba ba bob ba bob bob ba bob cat baby! They had vinyl or whatever pressed up just so he could cut his name up.

all I'm sayin is play the game or get played. no point in video blogging about it. If they wanted a demo, just do it, or don't do it. Cut Creator isnt the first and won't be the last to get played by some lame promotor. but on a happy man-moment, Cut creator should come out to Sutra tomorrow. Phife, Jarobi are in town and will be there, Pos said he'd swing by, and and Dilla's mom will be there too. First drink on me, unless he wants some fruity ass drink, then he'll have to order that himself lol.

BTW, I didn't watch the video blog yet, I'm just sounding off....
Now y'all see why I get Twisted out the frame when some don't give GMF the respect he deserves....
I guess it's society as a whole. Back in the day, the ELDER's of the family garnished SOME type of respect from the young ones coming up...
Today, it's nowhere near that...
Seems like that has trickled into the DJ game also....

Deez, Bob Cat used to wear a fur hat, not sure if he had it on in the I'm Bad video. He is the one who did the "cool Jay ja jay jay" cut I think. Let's face it ( no offence cut) Cut Creator was never that quick. Unless you have seen LL perform live after Bob came on board you wouldn't really know who he is, I guess. As a DJ, he was/is nice. To give you an idea, think of when DJ Scratch replaced K La Boss as the DJ for EPMD or when Tat Money replaced KD as Steady B's DJ. Now granted Cut didn't get replaced of course, but you get the point.

I have to totally agree. (No disprespect of course), and we original hiphop heads know how CUT CREATOR was a household name, but I can't front...
When Bobcat came out, he forced those who were DJ's (and who cared), to instantly step up their game.
The same effect when DJ Scratch broke out...

So I read today that the Cut Creator we know today was not the original Cut Creator. Apparently, the original Cut Creator did the cuts on I need a Beat and Dangerous and then left due to "professional differences" and all the other cuts on the albums were done by Jazzy Jay and later Bob Cat. The Cut Creator we know today was LL's road manager. So yes I had a lot of time on my hands at work today, LOL.
