this a great initiative that you are pursuing.... as far as i know its the only service that allows for a broader range of users to participate in digital whitelabel usage - which makes so much sense, considering actual vinyl whitelabel distribution is far more costly, limited to a certain number of deejays etc. and your product has kick started an entire digital approach to music performance from a deejay perspective.and we are the best marketeers within our social environment!!!
here some of my thoguhts id like to share. ive been writing concepts in this area since 1998 but im more of a convinced believer than a do-er and i am persuing a non profit approach.
i have written concepts with the aim to try to sell projects to big music pulishing companies using a similar approach of music whitelabel distribbution dating back to 2001, with a sole beneficial focus directed at the artist'. so much of it is happening now, and sure many persons have the same ideas, some are quicker than others, and some actually do it. i have been noticing in the field of digital music content publishing and service provision, that early movers tend to disappear quickly and that so many new creative and amazing intiiatives are only just beginning to appear. it is publishing houses and rights management companies that are realizing that the web user base is ready to contribute so long as there is no attempt to maximise profit interest on every single sale... youtube and content id are proving this.
in my opinion more important than limiting the end playing device, although it may be a possible source of license revenue in order to be able to offer a service such as this, is the need for detailed analysis of gathered statistics, summarised in a purposeful manner with the aim to purely benefi the artist, as such providing a very valuable service. major pop artist are the only persons i believe that really require a major label these days, all other more independant artists will use their own personal network to establsih themselves. but do they have the means to really analyse the impact of their sales by simply licensing their music for sale to online record stores? by this i am not implying solely financial gain, much to the contrary. musicians and their product create scenes, create a feeling and lead to pure pleasure. as such to create an artist that has impact they should really focus on the community they create and one thing will lead to another. i remember reading an interview from ricardo villalobos, who recommended that any artist should focus and create his own community above anything else. in frankfurt way back, i remember those very same parties he played at and managed to establish himself well establish is not the right word, but he created the events to serve as his platform to share his musical knowledge and skills and well the guy is a pure musician as are most succesful artists.....im not sure im portraying my point very well, if i had to summarize all my ideas and thoughts i truely believe your service needs to go one step further. allow unsigned artists to participate more freely, to possibly unlimit the device used to spin the sound, in return of user feedback and using the gained knowledge in the artists interest and only their interest, additionally and equallly important promote sales of the artists works by providing access to be able to buy unrestricted sound and certainly, again this is my opinion, by sharing revenue with those users now downloading the whitelabels that have the means to generate sales. interfacing, profit sharing, and unlimited distribution possibilities.
Additional wants not needs...
i would be interested in seeing what statustus besides download data you are gathering. and in the interest of the artist you guys should partner up with sites which sell the music. content and profit sharing is the way forward when it comes to digital content.
