These artist not only have lyrics advocating the murder of homosexuals but urge their audiences to commit hate crimes. Whether you approve of homosexuality or not, surely we can agree that advocating violence against a minority is not okay. I'm posting this because several of these artist are on here and djs should be aware of artist who are offensive to certain groups of people (IMHO advocating murder is offensive to everyone). I've know of djs who accidentally pissed of the promoter, club owner, or a number of the clubs customers by playing an offensive song and were asked to pack up their gear and leave without pay. If you play these artist please listen to the lyrics carefully.
Sizzla, Beenie Man, and Capleton signed the Reggae Compassionate Act in 2007 stating they would not make statements or perform songs that incite hatred or violence against anyone from any community. However Beenie Man later denied ever signing it, and Capleton was later video video taped telling the audience to kill gays, while he was guest staring at a Sizzla concert.

Listening to lyrics before playing to an audience is always advisable especially if you are concerned about future gigs. Apart from that you have to know your audience. Good looking out Ness.

What about endless hip encouragement to violence and gunz and disrespect to women? where are the lines drawn? All the above mentioned artists also promote Jah, black empowerment and the strugglers choices in life- personally you can always avoid the slackness and vote with your tune selection. Why the homophobia? seems like a weird thing to get murderous about - other peoples sex choices.. Also jamaican artist rail against muff diving! they're missing out big time- subject them to gay porn with a chick sitting on their face that'll sort it out

i agree with tobi jafa. all the artist mentioned above are toppa top artists with tons of songs one could chose from.
if u dont like a tune from a particular artist then dont support that particular song or artist.but the way ic it, freedom of speech gives those artist the right to express their beleifs just like homosexuals are free to express their sexuality.also there are a million songs expressing violence & so does TV and movies.
im not saying its ok to advocate any violence but i do think freedom of speech is important.yo! be free.live & let live. peace..

Does it? Even if that freedom of speech pours hatred on a group of people that results in limitations on their freedoms (and being killed is a rather large limitation of freedom...)?
Reducing everything down to *freedom of speech* is massively simplifying the issue IMHO.

These artist/people were raised in a enviroment where these things were wrong

dj ness u need to go educate urself on the topic.that was a list that was put out by the gay groups to ban our artists from performing in alot of countries.as first it worked, but as we all know now that didn't work.my music has NEVER CONTRIBUTED to the murder of gays.it's against our "laws of jamaica" to be gay.but why haven't they banned movies and other genre of music that advocate violence against gays? but we are considered to be the "weak fence" of the industry. but i digress

It's been long-established that sexual orientation is not a "choice".
And it's also well-known that many of the most homophobic people are that way because they're repressed homosexuals themselves.
Seriously...did some of you just pop out of a time capsule from 1953? Or is your writing some weird form of sick comedy?

what right's do homo and bisexuals have that hetero's don't? last time i checked there were plenty of laws oppressing gays, but none giving them special rights that no one else has. as for it being a choice, ask yourself "why would someone choose to be the most hated minority in the world?" especially in countries like Jamaica and in the middle east where you could be killed for being gay, how come these countries still have a gay population despite being so anti-gay? could it be that sexual orientation is biological? scientist have already proven that gay males respond to male pheromones and not female pheromones which is a biological response that cannot be learned. homosexuality also occurs in nature as well. if God did not want homosexuals then God would not have created them (either animal or human). consider gays natures birth control if you must. BOTTOM LINE, BEING GAY IS NOT A CHOICE AND PEOPLE (KIDS) CANNOT BE "RECRUITED".
p.s. dj Chase, if found your comments ironically funny because i am teaching a new dj by the name dj Chase who happens to be a big ol homo. you'll be in my prayers.

Actually I got the list from the heterosexual news media. I did a lot of research on this before posting, and not one of my sources was from a Gay organization because I thought they'd be bias. Your artist were banned for promoting genocide (not just violence but all out genocide), and not just because they're homophobic. Just because this kind of hate speech goes unchecked in the artists' home countries doesn't mean it's acceptable everywhere.
when Sizzla agreed not to perform songs promoting murder he was let back into Europe. however he performed these songs anyway, and outraged an audience in Germany when he allowed Capleton to come on stage and start telling people to commit genocide against homosexuals. we all remember what happened last time a foreigner came into Germany and started talking about genocide on stage. so this was slap in the face to the German people who learned valuable lessons about how hate speech can lead to catastrophe. (btw I was lived in both America and Germany as a teen so don't try telling me I need to go educate myself on this topic, maybe you should be the one educating yourself.)

Wow
Who doesn't know that "true" homosexuality is chromosone related?
Who in their right mind chooses a life style (gay) of persecution?
Who so ever promotes persecution against another, must also welcome persecution against themselves?
Who controls the entertainment industries across the world, in who's venue is these artist coming to perform, in who's club are you DJ'ng this inflamatory lyricks?
If you understand that its women and men that reproduce to have babees, than you better understand that gay people are the offspring of straight people. When you advocate to kill them you're advocating to kill the loveone of someone else.
If you're black, you may want to reconsider your attitude about depriving someone else about their right to live. People of all races and sexual orientation have been and still is fighting to insure your freedom to live. In many places in America (the land of the free) its a hate crime to threaten someone's life because of thier sexual orientalion, Race or nationality. If you don't like the law's in America go to where you like them.
No, I am not gay and neither do I have loveones that are. But, I am a sensible person who has a clear understanding of what Equal Rights means. Don't expect to receive what you're not willing to give.
Don't preach what the laws are in Jamaica, that's not a free pass to come to to America and preach hatred against Americans. These artist have no problems about collecting the mighty dollars with deae gay president's face on them, they don't have no problem buying brand name products (Versage, Tommy Hillfinger) and dressing like them, sometimes going as far as bleaching like a woman to get on the stage. One minute they're singing about peace and love and the next they're singing hatred.
I agree, a DJ should observe their odience and apease them whit the goal of being asked to come back. I don't avocate hatred. I don't let those that advocate hatred touch my mic. I can "run de dance" with out bad minding others. Get out of the entertainment business if you can't entertain, get into the gang banging business.

personally i dont promote death unless it be "sound warr!" and thats an artistic way of competing with reggae music..i have read these comments and my thought is 1st-if youre gonna play reggae music you should understand there is a time and place for certain tunes.Certain tunes were made for clashing so keep that in mind.A selecta should select tunes inteligently 2nd-people should understand reggae artists are diverse with different subject matter. They do reality tune, cuture tune, slack tune, love tune, etc.some artist touch "all" subjects nuttn wrong wid dat ex= Beenie Man, Capel, Sizzla. dem touch different subject matter.Just because man a rasta dont mean him cant sing about him cross angry miserable doh!? 3-we all have choices. If u dont like what certain artists sing bout--dont listen chune..but to banned artists i think is going too far & eventually nobody is gonna have any rights to do anything!..not even to voice your opinion about this subject itself..bless

This is the answer to your post:
Does it? Even if that freedom of speech pours hatred on a group of people that results in limitations on their freedoms (and being killed is a rather large limitation of freedom...)?
Reducing everything down to *freedom of speech* is massively simplifying the issue IMHO.
And please stop saying that promoting KILLING of people is okay and an acceptable thing to do and to say.

Chase your statements are ignorant and backwards. You should be ashamed of your stupid remarks. As for the artists talking trash about gays. They probably have some skeletons in their "closet" why else would they lash out with no provacation. Homosexuality has been around forever. It is not going away. It is acceptable in certain parts of the world for them to be open about it without fearing for their life. Killing gay people would only perpetuate the hatred and ignorance that has kept humanity from progressing in a positive direction. We can thank repressive governments and antiquated religious nonsense as the cause for such ignorance. As for other artist that glamorize violence and all other kinds of stupid crap. They are lost. They are lying to themselves and to their audience for attention/money/selfish reasons. NO person in their right mind would justify violence and hatred unless they had something to gain. Money, power or both. I'll play the track if it's hot. But at the end of the day I realize most of the so called tough guy artists are just trying to get paid. Most of them are too stupid to realize how damaging their lyrics are. If they knew better then why would they sing about hatred and violence? Two reasons: They are too ignorant to know better or they sold their artistic integrity to get paid. Record label excutives want the scary black guy to rap/sing about killing gays and selling drugs and slapping whores to sell more records and perpetuate the stereotype of the ignorant black man. These artist are well aware of what they are doing. But they do it anyway because they have no scruples, no morals, and no shame.
