Who would donate their left nut for a tablet mac?

DJ Yaz 2:41 AM - 4 June, 2006
I have been a PC user but now I am strongly considering going mac. For many reasons including support, price, durability, etc.

With the 57 though don't you guys think it would rock to have a tablet Mac set right above your mixer. I have heard many rumors of a tablet Mac on the way. I hear they have special patents for touch screens that would make their tablet better than others.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? Is anyone else really pumped about this?

I didn't hear any rumer about this yet... but I had a tablet for a PC and its was very slow and battery died too fast.

I'm sure if mac had one I would jump on the tablet bandwagon again.

oh.. and I wouldnt give a left nut, but maybe $2K.
DJ Yaz 3:20 AM - 4 June, 2006
Okay, I dug up the article...

Yeah 2k would be better :)

Maybe we'll see something in a year or 2.

Proper tablet PCs have active digitiser screens, they only work with the pen provided. That wouldn't make for a very good controller for SSL.

I've used a panasonic toughbook, and the battery life on that easily clears 5 hours.

The tablet I had would work with any hard device.... or even your finger if you wanted it to be a true "touch screen".

It was pretty cheap to, made by a local company called Eurocom. I was going to use it in a design course as a prototype...

I had this idea (for the course) to eliminate obesity in kids by creating "touch tvs", and providing content starting from very young ages where kid's TV shows would be interactive so the kids would have to move around and touch the screen.....

So the kid would be much more active then just sitting in front of the tube for hours at a time.

---

Come to think of it I could have also made adult content too ;-)
but I'm not going into detail on that one.

This one's been on the rumormill for quite some time now... I'd say Apple has to be working on something or it wouldn't keep popping up. (iTunes on your mobile phone anyone?)

I'd imagine this might be one of the big features of 10.5 Leopard... more emphasis on touch screen input... if that's true, we'll see previews at the WWDC this August...

ggrrrr august. I want this now!!! My VAIO is on it's last leg.

Isn't Cingular already doing this? Its' only 100 songs, but I hear the next step with that is to be able to buy songs over the air.

yeh, that was my point—the iTunes phones (ROKR and SLIVER) have been in the rumor pipeline for awhile and they finally saw the light.

The PC tablets are blehhh but I'm not gonna assume that this tablet Mac is going to be any better. Especially considering the fact that Apple spends much more money on marketing and advertising more than on their actual products. Regardless of the obviously higher quality competition, Apple reigns supreme in the market because of their ambiguous financial team. (*cough* iPods *cough*) It's kinda like Serato and FS.

Take it from a fellow Mac user. Watchyoutube.com

But wait, even though no pictures have been released or fathomed for this tablet Mac, it's so predictable. Smooth, rounded design. Combination of white and silver exterior. Annoying Apple symbol directly in the middle of the cover. All white keyboard with weird clover symbol buttons. Lame hard drive capacity. 533 mhz. Extremely simplified desktop and browser. Price tag of 3K.
</end rant>

And this doesn't have anything to do with 57SL, it should be in General discussion

I put it here because the 57's user interface makes me much more interested in a tablet style computer. Just asking to see what people say. Thanks for the feedback.

Yaz maybe you just need a mac mini and a flatscreen.

Just tuck the mac mini somewhere hidden and have the screen right above the mixer. Maybe serato will get some "mouse" drivers for the joystick and your all set.

i don't know, i might give up the left nut; thats $2000 you're talking about. besides, my right one hangs lower anyway.

my girlfriend just got a new tablet pc from her work and i must say i'm quite impressed with it. i'm a little scared to try ssl on it since she works for the state government.
DJ Yaz 1:11 AM - 6 June, 2006
Mac mini is an interesting idea? The touch screen capability is a big part of what I'm after. I actually used to spin with a monitor set up right over the mixer and it is nice.

3pm, what brand of tablet is it? Does it look sturdy?
mexicannnnnn 3:03 AM - 6 June, 2006
3pm, give it a test drive...come on you know you want to :-)

Yaz, if your looking for a really cheap one grab a eurocom one... I used to use it with FS1/2 but it was horrible... used some unknown processor...etc
SpinThis! 2:50 PM - 6 June, 2006
yeh, it's only the state government... it's not like she's working for the NSA or whatever.

damn, peer pressure is a mother. i think its an hp tablet or something, she just got it last week and i've only played with it once while setting her up to our home network.

problem is my music is on an hfs+ external. i don't mind installing ssl as much as i mind installing macdrive (demo) on it. i'll probably play with it next week when we get back from vegas.

ps- if anyone has any suggestions for a vegas virgin, pm me
