Power lead question (US->UK)

Rory 1:25 PM - 30 May, 2006
I plan to purchase or maybe just order a ttm57 from the us to the uk,

What power lead does the mixer use? Can rane supply me with a powerlead which will have a uk plug on it?

Or should i just get the adapter out?

All you need is a standard 'kettle' lead that you can pick up anywhere in the UK.

This is due to the auto switching power supply..

i.e. like this...
www.bigpockets.co.uk

NOTE - any warrenty issues will require the unit to shipped back to the US as the UK service centre's are not required to do the work for free as it wasn't bought in the UK.

yeah i get that, you save about £200 if you were to get the mixer shipped overnight from the states tho..

maybe more if you shop around!

I'm not trying to put you off just making you aware of it... mine is coming from the US too though :)

What's retail in the UK? £900? Is there really much saving, especially if you get hit with 25% or thereabouts customs charges.
Res-Q 7:01 PM - 30 May, 2006
hi, well there's a work around if you know someone in the states who can receive the mixer for you. This same person can then send you the package as a normal parcel. Just like if it was a present from your uncle for instance. This way, no vat or bs like that, just da regular sending fee. (make sure your buddy/uncle/whoever checks the box when he gets it to see if everything is inside, you would be pissed if you had to send it back once you received it with something missing or broken in the uk). I'm in France and that's exactly what I'm planning to do as soon as I sell my empath.

In Germany you still have to pay all customs, it doesnt make a difference if you bought it, or someone is sending you it as a gift.

Same in the UK if the value is more than around $50

the word on the street is £1175 for the UK according to djstore.co.uk

Having local backup is certainly something to consider. If, heaven forbid, something were to go wrong, that money you'd save in bringing it in from the states would soon get eaten up by the costs of sending it back to the dealer you bought it from, not to mention the time it would take. Then there is the advantage of having dealt with someone face to face, and having someone in your time and toll zone that you can call.
... a few things to consider.

We also get stuck pretty bad here in New Zealand. I got my home theatre projector from www.hivizone.com because it was literally half the price of buying the same model locally. In NZ we don't have "street prices" - you pretty much have to pay the sticker price. So distributors here often start with the US list price and then add a premium. It's sometimes cheaper (eg Apple computers) for a store here to pay retail at a US store than to pay wholesale from the local distributor.

Boabmatic - £890 here

£890 is a good price, I doubt very much it will ship within 5 days. The quickest I've had Digital Village deliver for a stock item was a full 2 weeks. I can't think that senheisser have got many units to go round.
Deft 9:03 AM - 31 May, 2006
Yeah the lead time is bit silly. Now, where to get £890 from?
boabmatic 10:56 AM - 31 May, 2006
Yeah I seen that Deft but don't beileve it :) as its been saying ship in 5 days since about Feb :)

boabmatic 7:05 AM - 1 June, 2006

well thats billix. just spoke to them, they're a vague as the rest... "august sometime" maybe that is the first uk shipment? sennheiser dont seem to want to get back to me and tell me so the guessing continues....
Deft 2:13 PM - 1 June, 2006
I'm guessing the first "official" units could be arriving around June 20th in the UK - as we (Skratchworx) have been promised one of the first units to review - if all goes according to plan.
