i've been a scratch live user for 3 years, yesterday i bought the vestax vci-300.
i'm pretty happy about the hardware but i'd like the software to be more similar to scratch live
i think all the information that are dispayed on scratch live, should be also displayed on serato itch
i need to see both elapsed time and remaining time of each song
everyone of the 5 cue point should be displayed for each deck
during the mix we should be able to reorder cue points
i'd also like to be able to hide song title and artist by pressing ctrl + am
so i'd like you to make us happy improving next version of the software

no click the bpm then type 'AM'
however on a macbook you may need to make sure 'key commands use shift' is checked in settup
what do you mean by reorder cue points????

thanks kraal for fast reply
i mean:
when i use scratch live I have 5 cue points
on scratch live i can change the order of them
for example
1 cue 00.00
2 cue 09.99
3 cue 18.98
4 cue 40.00
5 cue 49.99
and i'm able to change like this during my mix
1 cue 00.00
2 cue 40.00
3 cue 49.99
4 cue 18.98
5 cue 09.99
i'd like so the screen of serato itch to be the same of serato scratch live (with different graphic different order ecc. but i need to do everithing i can to when i play with scratchlive
because i play twice a week with scratch live and junt once with itch
i'd feel more confortable if the next version of itch would be like that

ok i see what you are asking for now but here is the reason it is not like that and i know going back and forth it get confusing .........
but SSL needs stuff on the screen cause there are not the buttons on the controller to handle it.... the vci-300 has cue point in what ever order cause its what button you press

yes kraal, you right,
i'm asking for this, because i go back and forth between the 2 softwares
what i asking for is just have the same information on the screen (for example have remain & elapsed time both displayed on the deck or the position of the cue points in the track)
i'm not asking for big changes in the software, it is perfect,
i'm sure what i'm asking is not so difficult to improve

I was thinking, maby pressing the left+right buttons at the same time, in the loop section can function as shift. Even the word "SHIFT" is mentioned above it.

Lol, I was about to say that too ^^.
Maybe the start and stop knobs can act as parameter selection knobs? (don't ever use them, actually)
I wouldn't even mind if they replace manual looping mode with FX functions instead.

My number 1 request is the beat match bars to be vertical.
An option to have them veritcal or horizontal like the wave files would make everyone happy.
My mixes are off sometimes because i get confused after a couple of drinks.
Please make this on the next beta version.
Thanks!

Why bust are balls in sorting our music into stupid crates and shit, when it doesnt even support Drag and Drop. The music is usualy already sorted out, unless your using itunes to sort your music, but i dought that theres alot of users doing that, since its a pain in the ass and way too much time consumming.
VDJ, Torq, Traktor even PCDJ, they all offer Drag and Drop and folder/subfolder support. Why cant Serato make it happend ?
I guess ill continue to use my VCI-300 with something else until the give that support in Itch.
Cheers

Feature that needs to be added is disabling key lock when the brake knob is engaged. If you try to use the brake while keylock is on the deck tries to keep the key but can't. The music then sounds un-natural when coming to a stop. I hope I am explaining this properly

and always sync is a bad idea. If you have a song of 96bpm and bring in one of 125 bpm then you have to unsync it.... i would rather sync when need to otherwise keep it normal

that's why i said a checkbox would be cool, because i want to have a sync everytime, you not - so we can have it like we want to have. but allways hitting the sync button after loading is stupid (for me).

I want to be able to turn OFF that bright BPM meter. maybe helpful for some but I feel like it is an idiot light like in a car. If I am mixing I KNOW when it is mixing the way i want it to. in some cases i mix double time 60-bpm with a 120-bpm song so I rarely will use this meter. but when it turn white it's crazy bright and I feel like the NS7 is telling me "ok ready to mix" I really don't need it. LOL.. and yes My NS 7 talks to me :-s

Could they add effects with a USB coupler. It could be a black box that has USB in and out and it would connect between your NS7 and computer. But the GUI would obviously be different. If they where clever enough they could even elongate the box and add buttons to the box for each side of the deck and have it some how be incorporated in the shinny laptop stand some how. Wishful thinking I guess......

integrated key function on analyzing files so when you analyze files it also gives the key the tune is in as well as the bpm etc, if this cant be done then add key to the list of options on the header list.
when i analyze my files using Mixed in Key im pretty sure it writes the key tag to the mp3, i would love to then import it into itch and voila it is there in the key field...

Yeah true as i had to pay to join mixed in key.
maybe if more users asked for it tho the guys at serato would maybe look into it?
if not writing it into there software at least do something that recognizes it from others.
Maybe whilst analyzing files itch would show a pop up with "whilst analyzing your files itch detected key results within mp3 tag, would you like these imported? Y/N
This i feel would be a cool feature.
what do you think serato? is this a possability? could this be done?

MIDI learn would be nice. Then you could drum cues with a trigger finger or midi drum pad or add autoroll to an ns7 setup (without using a 3 key stroke on the keyboard). It can also easily open up access to additional buttons, knobs and sliders for added features in the future (hint: sampler, fx, video controls) without touching the laptop keyboard. I don't think this feature would be to hard to add and would be easily upgraded and changed as upgrades and features are added and developed. It also allows the controllers to stay simple and basic giving every user the same feel when they walk up to a VCI-300 or NS7. I agree with the original idea of Itch being that a play button is a play button no matter what. Meaning that you should not get lost in a controller wondering what mode your in or if a switch is flipped. Simplicity for basic DJ needs goes a long way. on the other hand, coming from SSL and my ttm57sl, I've found customizing my setup with an outside controller speeds up and smooths out my performance. MIDI learn would satisfy a lot of user customization issues and future feature issues for both controllers.

Hi I am really so close to fire away an order for the VCI-300. But first I wanted to mention a few issues. I am 6000 km away from Home and gonna be there for a while and my DJ Background is Vinyl only. Because of the Distance and the convenience I gonna switch to Digital what is really not an easy step for me (because of my Analog "religion").
I started to look for Controller+Software Solutions and finally find the VCI-300 is ideal for my purpose. So far I like traktor a lot because of all the options you can adjust by yourself ad make the program look and act like you individually want it to. Especially working with a small notebook and a single core (I don't wanna hear any "get a new notebook or mac...") I would like to see ITCH being more adjustable. CPU Usage and Layout. I want to disable keylockfunktion, want to disable any type of analysis, disable bpm detection, modify sample rate of output, disable or modify wavdisplay to a simpler one. And now my biggest concern. Get those Letters bigger. Its the best function of traktor to determine the px of the words. When you work with a small roadwarrior you have to have this function.
I really mix 100% by ear so I need hardly any information from the screen. Selection is one of the most important things because I come from a Vinyl background so I learnd it to get this habit and it is good so. I don't need 2000 tracks to browse through I maby want to see 10 big enough even from 3 meters away.
So what I ask "you" to change is... give me just more control over the program. I don"t need 10000 features, I want to reduce the functions of the programm to a minimum to fit it to my style, if you played with 2 Technics and a 2 channel mixer for 6 years then you just wanna play nice tunes. Sound and flow is the most important. BTW I plan not to use any Mp3 only Wavs 44.1 khz 16 bit minimum.
So please again no comments like get a bigger screen or quadcore or live with the future... I know what I want... (I ran all Demos (VirtualDJ, Traktor, MIXXX, MIXvibes, ITCH...) on my Netbook and the way I gonna play my sets they all used hardly more than 50% CPU)

I would like an auto fade mode, and that i use the crossfader contour knob to adjust the fade in and out mixing times when a 3rd playback option are set from Single, Continous, to Auto Fade, and in order to get into this mode, Command (or shift button) then clicking continous mode will enable this mode, and words AutoFade will appear near the Setup/Config button.
I did need this mode when I was still setting up for a party and was busy with other things(setting up DMX lights on trusses). It's an OK idea i mean, doesn't hurt to put another option to enable or disable Auto Fade/ Mix mode in the setup screen.

Good point. Club DJ don't need to worry about this, but us mobile guys definitely could benefit from an auto mix for set up purposes as well as other instances unique to mobile DJ's like crowd motivation etc.

Hey folks,
We certainly are here and paying attention. It's really cool to see so many feature requests from our users. A lot of these are really good ideas, some more possible than others of course =)
Quite a few of these things have been put into ITCH 1.1 which is currently in public beta. serato.com
This is not a finished version so read the beta instructions and use at your own risk if you're keen to try it before it's upcoming official release. ITCH 1.1 has the following new features, most of which are mentioned above.
Scaling Waveforms (you can beatmatch with the waveforms now if you want)
Key Tag support
Loop Roll for the VCI.
Recording bit depth option
33/45 Platter Speed Option
Hi-Fi Resampler Option
Customised Crate View (You can make all your crates use the same columns if you turn this off)
iTunes Library Changes (You can fold away you playlists if you don't want to see them)
History Panel (This records everything you play in ITCH, ever. You can export it as well)
Plus is has a bunch of bug fixes and we've reduced the CPU load across the board and made ITCH more efficient.
Keep the suggestions rolling, we are listening!
Thanks
Dylan.

Since Loop Roll has been included (so many were crying for this months ago). How about a Rick Roll for an easter egg?!?!!
OMG, if that was possible, we wouldn't need a Road case for it, because it can:
1. fold itself into a briefcase for easy transport! Or even be
2. a Serato ITCH MP3 player with supported cue point assigning! (to be the size of an Iphone).
3. Drive the price of the NS7 up to as much as a cheap future car because we can drive it?!
[SUGGESTION]
Other real achievable suggestions: Have another column to show if song is Dirty/Explicit or Clean/Needs Curse words Reversing. Just to tell the 'deejay' if the song is right for that certain event. Or even a customized font coloring scheme with a legend box. I had to play in front of a large crowd of kids for a Football tournament, that lasted 9am-7pm consisting of ages 5-18. And I had a little trouble finding clean songs extremely fast. Because I ran out of clean/non explicit music and played all the songs in the crate I had prepared the night before. (totally reasonable right?)

Suggestion : Why don't you just use the "comment"-tag for that?
Off topic: Just trying to understand the difference in your culture:
What is the issue in America with the Dirty / explicit wordings in songs, while there's not a single hollywood movie on the market today that contains dialogues with less then 1 explicit wording/cursing per sentence?

Difference is when you BUY a movie ticket you are willingly subjecting yourself/children to the content contained within the movie, Images, language, etc. When listening to the radio, or a public event DJ such as a football tournament, no consent is given and therefore the unwritten code of good taste applies. I would not want to be playing some N.W.A F the Police with a bunch of 10 year old kids running around.

Kmxorbit, I have been doing that(using comments) as suggested in an old thread, the thing is i have to type the DIRTY or CLEAN to about 148 songs the night before (because I also received a new batch of Promo Only albums for the month), and when doing a (re)-analyse file, it writes back the original comments(which some of my music, the comments gives the BPM).
I just want a fast flagging system so I can mark it as soon as I hear shiet or phuck or shoot a nigga here, bitch please.(Yea, got a bunch of that kinda hiphop/pop) Or a system that tells you apart from the same songs but having both the Dirty and Clean versions. Ex. I had both boom boom pow in the album and radio versions, + the remixes which either were clean or dirty also. So the next time there's a like wise event, I can just tick something(or keyboard shortcut) that will show me all the clean songs if I happen to just go through the whole (itunes) library because original event's crate has all the mp3's played already.
What I know so far is(music, not movies/tv), in my home town on the gulf coast, the radio plays the song Birthday Sex, but silences the word Sex and reverses/echo fades some sexually-almost-explicit lyrics, while I listen to Chicago's B96 radio station on the net/iphone, they allow the word Birthday Sex; allowed is also Ass, "Chris brown should get his ass kicked" song (they friggin play it everyday!), and also allow Whore/Hoe/bitch.

Another suggestion for new Itch would be a separate LE edition of Pitch N Time is Itch's software utility is called Itch Pitch (tacky isn't it?) dedicated to scan the pitch of songs and list the beginning pitch and the end of song pitch. This can be fully used when in building overviews mode.
Reason is, some songs do go a step above the original pitch (one semitone up) towards the end of the song. Some Dance/Disco/House songs do have it. And the ability to suggest songs in the same range key, sort of like the itunes genuis system, except it be much smarter with the key exclusively. And have this "genuis" system lightly show/highlight 'suggested' songs to key in next. To step up the challenge in coding this, try to match the basslines (4 beats or 8beats) with other song basslines also to make/create the ultimate mash up mix on the fly.. sounds good but it will get a deejay to be more creative(at least) to their songs they're mixing in their set. I hope I'm not repeating someone though.

@Deejay Dumb Bii and KMxorbit- I definitely second that for Clean/Dirty category.
I played a family event with ages ranging from pre-teens to 80's in the crowd. The older people didn't mind me playing the hip-hop for the younger crowd, but damn if some the songs I thought were clean turned out to be the dirty versions.
Even the younger people were looking like WTF?? It happened a couple times and I thought I had them sorted out.
Kmxorbit, that is definitely a NO-GO here.
I don't know how that could be sorted out via a DJ app, maybe with the integration of an online music database that could scan your songs while analyzing like the GraceNote MusicID system here: www.gracenote.com .

I mentioned this in another thread of feature suggestions, but I'd PLEASE like the option to keep what I typed in the search box when switching crates. Everytime I switch a crate it erases whatever I typed in. Kinda a pain to have to retype it. The beauty of the NS7 is not having to touch the computer. But this has me going back to the keyboard to type something I just typed because I selected a different crate. Annoying. Make it a toggle option in setup for people who like it the current way. Just something I'm hoping to see. Please....

I've seen verification the Vestax vfx effects module is real. I'd like to see the SP-6 sampler From SSL in ITCH and it would be great to have those triggers physically on the effects controller. Since the buttons on the vci-300 and NS7 are already spoken for, I'd like to only need one extra piece for the sampler and the effects.
Or use a shift key to change the cue triggers to sample triggers. You could have six spread across the two decks of the vci and ten spread across the NS7. And if you could tempo lock them to the playing deck, that would be great.

how about:
Place track in designated crate (keyboard short cut)
it would be cool to have a keyboard short cut say 'Ctrol + 1,2,3,4,5' (or similar)
then assign a crate with a flag of 1,2,3,4,5 (the current crates you are working with), the crates have now been labelled.. so when you are going through tracks rather than have to drag a drop them to your creates each time, and sometimes the create is off the screen so when you scroll down while dragging, it shoots past the crate.. so you go up and it shoots past the crate again... and again... er.. and again.. !
So.. you like the track and you want it in current create 3 you are filling up with new shizzle.. so press 'control + 3' and bingo the track jumps to the folder..
that would be nice guys..... :)

I have said this a few times, I am surprised that it doesn't get much love. Automatic Talkover!!! As a Wedding DJ, a talkover feature would be ideal for the B&G introductions. I used it all the time on my Numark PPD9000, which had a sensitivity knob so you can adjust the sound that lowered, from very minimal to complete cut-off of the sound. I used the knob at half way for the intros and full for when I wanted to get the crowd crazy, or give a shotout to the B&G during the middle of a loud set. The sensitivity can be in the software. It would be nice to somehow implement it on the hardware, but I am not sure how that would be possible. Maybe one of the eq knobs can be the knob when AT is on in the software.

Unsure if this has already been asked but it would be great if when you load a track it showed the KEY in the window also maybe just under the BPM value or anywhere really, the reason being is if you go to a different crate to pick out another tune it would help with your selection if you could see what key the tune is that your already playing

one day when we have a enough cpu power spare.. id love to have a VR record room i can walk into with a short cut when djing..
in that room it would look just like my 12" record collection wall to wall vinyl..

i can pull them out ready to play if needed as a reminder for later.. and they stay in the same place physically for ever.. (err.. i mean cyberally in the same place)
of course the album artwork would be the on record sleeves.. and i could flick thru them just like old days to play the next track.. a short cut to load it..
in my mind it looks a bit like a second hand record store.. but its all my music..
also.. id like to decorate the room with flyers.. and artwork.. posters..
and each time i go into it.. its beamed into the club visuals if i choose it to be..

I mix a lot with the equalizer and, being the central part of the VCI-300 is very dark, often have no reference to the position of the EQ Knobs, it would be interesting to see them on ITCH screen...
On the other hand, usually work with my desktop PC, I wish export the folders and all its contents to pass to the laptop...Fulll browser suport...
Sorry for my bad english...

i personally would like to see configurable outputs of both channels + cueing - itch is rock solid and veeeery nice, but this would just be a small adjustment that would open myriads of possibilities!
that would make it possible to:
- mix externally
- use a different soundcard
- route audio from itch into traktor/ableton/daws/whatever
- use standalone fx/audio-modifying apps with itch
combine that with midi-mapping capabilities and i'll never step away from itch! (actually i think by enabling midi mapping ppl without a vci-300 or a ns7 would be using itch - in my experience ppl really like what they're seeing if they look at me using itch)
ppl could still enjoy the "out of the box"-paradigm - but ppl wanting a little bit more possibilities (like me) would enjoy the controller even more!
(and you could still check if the controller is present in terms of whitelabel tracks)

ITCH version 1.1 supports whitelabel playback when your controller is connected.
1.1 is in Public Beta now and will be ready for final release soon. It's still an unstable beta and we wouldn't reccomend gigging with it but we do want people trying it out for us.
You can get the beta here.

Please....--DJ Luciano of The Beatills
I like this too, I also would like once you finish a search ITCH has the option to return to the crate you were in before. Essentially APPLE+F should be a toggle, if you are at the search box and you press it again you should return to the previously viewed crate.

Do you mean a search crate that only populates with a history of your search results? That could kind of be nice. And you could reset the search history with a clear button like when you clear played tracks. Or have it reset when ITCH closes.

definitely +++ the "remember search term per crate" idea!
Some other ideas:
1. allow the review mode to remember tunes after closing itch
Imagine you do a gig which you recorded, you finish late, go home and want to add a playlist to the recording the next day.
2. a special setlist crate which only allows a manual order
Sometimes you want to lay out exactly a set, not sort by bpm or genre or whatever other tag you sort by. Just a view to say song 1 is this, song 2 is that...maybe Im missing how some of you guys do this...
3. coupled to point 2, ability also when your controller is on, to play the playlist automatically, maybe with auto-fade in/out...
4. want to mention again the "link files" idea that was mentioned in the live forum a while back. Allows you to link files that you like mixing together (say, hip-hop instrumental A, accapella B, scratch samples C) and link em all together so as soon as you loaded one of them, the related songs show up somewhere, for easy loading.
And finally, just wanna say I did a 7 hour non-stop gig last saturday with itch and the vci-300 and there was not a single issue/malfunction/crash or anything!! truly amazing.

ok here goes in no particular order
mic talk over option
classic SSL skin
VSL Support
sampler like SL6 in SSL 1.9.1 beta 2 ( i am currently using Ableton live 8 alongside Itch with great results =) Thanks Jayo (www.prodjforums.com)
check box for always sync tracks
all crates arranges the same as the all folder
option to mover the library/crates to the bottom of the screen and controls to the top (makes it easier to watch the crowd and the screen)
add key info (done in the new 1.1 beta :)
analyze the key of tracks internally so that mixed in key is no longer necessary
display both time elapsed and time remaining
left deck orange right deck blue like SSL
see all cue points
EFX (VFX will hopefully sort this out)
internal master EQ
Midi clock that works in sync with ableton live 8 for sampling/mixing (more intergration with ableton would also be cool) =)
show the EQ and Gain for each channel on the screen
set the output folder and file type when recording
centered vertical waveforms ( after 3 years on SSL i'm just used to it ;p)
autoplay option like in SSL 1.9.1 beta 2 (dont care if it fades between if i want it mixed i'll do it but just autoplay so i can leave it going and walk away like a cd player)
Ive just got this unit today so i am sure i'll come up with some other stuff =) but i'll check out the 1.1 beta and see how it goes too
Thanks for all the support and constant improvements on your products SSL has served me well for the last few years i'm expecting Itch can do the same =)

I NEED A PITCH BEND VELOCITY ADJUSTING OPTION!!! for less sensitive than now is in vci-300. for me it is problem when i want mixing electro house music. to play hiphop is very good but in club music is TOO MUCH SENSITIVE. Roll fx or tape echo, manual filters etc. the fx control by jog. newest itch should have bpm detector range adjust for example 110-160.bpm. and pitch range option 8% OR 10%. why i can't change windows size in itch playlist etc. ?! hardware is very good(VCI-300) but software need many many more options and adjustments ... AS TS_PRO. sory for my funny english bec. i'm from Poland. i hope that this adds (PITCH BEND SENSITIVE ADJST. please!!!) WILL BE IN THE NEW SERATO ITCH.

Hi Mods/Developers,
Is there a way that a pause button can be introduced alongside the REC button?
My reason for this is i have a lot of samples/drops etc on a number of different files on my HD and i would like to make one file to hold all my fave samples etc that way all i have to do is load one file and then scroll through it instead of having to search and load a number of files it would be the same as the SERATO sample that comes free on the ITCH software disc (this has a number of samples with cues set).
The only way i can think of doing it at the mo would be to record one sample with itch then open it and record again at the end of it with the 2nd sample/drop.
My question with this method is will audio quality level drop as the recording goes on?
Maybe there is a way to do it now? maybe not.
Just thought i'd throw that idea in the hat, be a cool feature to have IMO

Hey TJ 56,
One way to do this is to have a crate full of all your drops and samples, hit record and just keep loading them up one after the other as your record. Then you'll end up with one big recording of everything that was in the crate.
You could also use the autoplay feature to get ITCH to do this automatically but you might not end up with enough gaps in between samples.
Hope that helps.
Dylan.

why do i need an audioprogram mate? when i could simply scroll through them using the platter, the ones that i use for drops/scratches i could simply set cue points. kind of like the serato sample file that comes free with the instalation disc.
granted i can only set so many cues but it be a lot simpler than searching through current files.

we urgently need better libary administration please!
- right mouse button functionality on listed tracks to re-analyse,delete, mark, bla
on may occasions the bpm isnt picked up correctly or the autoloop does not work
- ability to add and remove iTunes playlist - I ALWAYS get my podcast analysed which is
useless and it costs a lot of time
- better playlist admin, ability to dublicate and edit dublicates. I often copy a playlist
to make edits to it. I create a new one drag and drop the tracks in there from the
original playlist and then find myself unable to rearrange the list order!
- LOOSE the record 'save' button. what is that good for in the first place?! can we just
record and save to disk with the rec-function on, I lost a handfull of good mixes by
forgetting to hit 'save' in the end.
- free up screen space. let's have the 'record funktion row' centered in line with album
art - history at the top and add the free space to playlist window
- CHANGE THE FILES BROWSER PANEL. fist off lets have the full playlist space available
for for this panel. when I need to look for something in my file structure that means I
really need to really look for something so I need good visibility not a mico window
with 50 expanding subwindows. lets have and expandable MS-Windows style
treebrowser in one panel left and the folder contents in a biiiiiig window right.
the seperating tile should be movable.
- SOUNDWISE the software compressor is far too strong giving me ugly clipps when the
trimm is too far up. would like to see more headroom for the trim knobs most tracks
have to be at 11.00 o'clock on the dial and blowout at 12.00h. lets go into the redzone
only from 15.00h onwards.
- ELSE ALL THUMBS UP, GREAT WORK! love the package and totally swear by it, switched
from TS some months ago. Other recoomendations include to knock the price down it
is execessive and have a faster turnaround on software update (especially MY
suggestions)
many thanks!

....oh while I'm at it - the 'cue' and 'play/pause' buttons on the vci controller are blinking like mad. could we turn that fequency down or just have a standard on/off?
it does feel a little hectic and one wonders what the actual purpose of it is.
- is it to stress me out?
- or maybe to let me know that the buttons ARE actually really there and I can press them
- or is it to make the vci look like a tropical japaneese space karaoke machine in the dark?

I've got 3 things :
- Would it be OK to paint de red line of the high/mid/bass knobs in white ? Or do any of you have a better idea to finally see them in the dark?
- Smart/watch folders, if possible without compromising stability or performance of Itch, for those who use traditionnal folders (for example Whitelabel songs are not added in my iTunes library). Because everytime I add songs in physical folders I have to add them manually in Crates (fastest way I found is to delete the crates and re-add them). Browse function is ok for 1-2 folders but when you want colum info and have like 10 folders it's boring to delete-add them al the time.
- I'm excited about the upcoming Vestax VFX-1 !

I would like the ability to play video files! Right now I have to use Virtual DJ for video and ITCH for my audio simply because virtual dj plays anytype of video file, .vob/.avi/.mpg/.mp4/ I couldnt see spending 1200.00 on a mixer thats not rack mountable, and dosent have enough channels in it for my mobile needs. I can't understand why Serato is so limited on the type of video files it will play? I've had no issues at all using virtual dj....and im using it on a PC!

Feature request:
I love this idea. I have the same music library on my laptops internal drive, and 2 external drives just for backups... It'd be nice to have the choice of which drive ITCH reads from if more than one is connected.
Related to that idea....... I'd LOVE it if ITCH & SSL would have some kind of internal ASSISTANT for LIBRARY TRANSFER and BACKUP. Like once you copy all of your music to the new location, you could open a panel in ITCH and say I want Library A to match Library B exactly. You'd be able to decide which is the master library and make the slave match. And it would go through and compare A to B file by file, crate by crate. If something is different, ITCH would automatically sync the libraries, physically and virtually (by reference).
I'm actually working on getting all my music to be recognized on a new laptop and its been a tough project. the guide in the FAQs is helpful, but even doing it all that way, i still had a bunch of files not found for some reason. I'm trying to work that out as we speak. Don't say... start a help thread, because I am not inept. I'm confident that I will get it all figured out.

2. Remember my Column settings, I always have to reset them when i start itch.

PARAMETRIC FREQUENCY ADJUSTMENT - for the EQ's like in Traktor or Denon's DN-X1500s Mixer

Honestly that whole thing about iTCH is different than SSL is a bunch of crapola.
It is the same developers so the differences should be minute. SSL DJ's should be able to switch between the two without feeling thrown off as should iTCH users if they are playing on SSL. Yes your controls are different but the main aspect of the software should not change.

Maybe I can give you a different reasoning behind it, when someone walks into my booth they ask, what are you using Serato or Traktor. You never hear someone say Scratch Live. Even with ITCH and my VCI-300 they say Serato or Traktor. That is what it is known as so to say 2 different products is kinda off when the consumer is only seeing Serato.

I wouldn't call it ignorance, it is the Culture that has been established by the users of this product. It is a little late in the game to try and change that culture.
As a user everyday I am on the fence over this product and I honestly feel like returning it and waiting to see what comes from 2.0 simply because I am way more comfortable using SSL. So with that being said as a product owner, as Serato, how would you feel about that opinion, from a sales perspective?

I aggree with you for the most part, but what is missing is that Serato is changing. Also - SSL DJ's choose SSL. itch DJ's do not. I am an NS7 DJ and it does not work with anything else at the moment. good luck

I understand completely, I think the point is that it looks like a good bit of SSL DJ's are looking at ITCH as an alternative, thinking it may be somewhat familiar, whether it is the NS7 or the VCI. I chose the VCI simply because it was compact now I feel I should have gone with the NS7 but in the end I think I will go back to Rane and stick with SSL for the time being.

After having used ITCH several times by now I would like to see Serato implementing the following (most of them have been already requested):
1. Key visible on the running deck. As it is now it is very difficult to do harmonic mixing unless you know the keys by heart
2. Basic autopilot. In the worse case continuous mode should be able to trim tracks ending with silence
3. An option to jump to the crate(s) a track belongs. This is very useful if you search a track and want to find similar tracks (assuming you organize your crates by style) or tracks in the same album (if you organize be albums, etc)

Unsure if this has already been asked but it would be great if when you load a track it showed the KEY in the window also maybe just under the BPM value or anywhere really, the reason being is if you go to a different crate to pick out another tune it would help with your selection if you could see what key the tune is that your already playingTj

Has this been implemented yet? I just got Mixed in Key and found it annoying that I had to reference back to the playlist/crates to see what the key the actual loaded song was. It should show in the play window as well like SSL does. Thanx.

After having used ITCH several times by now I would like to see Serato implementing the following (most of them have been already requested):2. Basic autopilot. In the worse case continuous mode should be able to trim tracks ending with silence
+1 on "Continuous Mode" with the ability of (#1) skip the silent parts at the intro/outro & (#2) fade in/fade out between songs with a selectable transition time (ie. 4 or 8 seconds ).
This will be great feature for us, mobile djs, to use during cocktails hour and dinner time.
The ability to auto mix a custom play list with trimming capabilities and/or the ability to select a cue point to start blending would just about complete Itch in terms of significant features in my opinion.
Itch is perfect for mobile DJ's as it is small & portable without sacrificing quality or features. Adding auto mix is as crucial for mobile DJ's as booth monitoring is for club DJ's. Mobile Itch users (who make up a large contingent of Itch users) devote A LOT of time during events handing MC work, dealing with customers, as well as a hundred other things. Ability to cue up songs for continuous play with predetermined blend points (similar to Mixmeister) would be an invaluable tool in the world of mobile DJing.
Programs like VDJ and mixmeister already include this feature so I gotta believe it is under development (hopefully packaged 2.0). I understand some may view this feature as cheating and not inline with old skool turntablists ideals, but the fact of the matter is Itch is widely used by many different DJ's with differing needs for various applications. Therefore, features such as auto mix should be made available and tweaked out like any other feature. Bottom line the capability should be added if for no other reason to keep pace with a constantly changing market and ever evolving technology.

Additional cue points.
1. keep normal cue points - so we have 5 normal cue points that work the same when a track is loaded on both decks.
2. pressing shift - cue point # sets an additional cue point when that track is loaded to that side deck. now a single track can have a total of 15 cue points. 5 common on each decks which is currently how it works and an additional 5 left and 5 right accessible with the shift key.

ITCH needs a better waveform display options (bigger and top placement)) and smoothing. the bottom display is a prb when you put the deck on a laptop keyboard to gain space : the cable connection hide the waveform.

1:21 PM 7 March 2010
^ You always have the option to place the waveform on the left or the right. Personally I prefer having it on the right since this way there is a big gain in vertical space (which is quite limited in widescreen displays) which allows me to view more songs in the library section.
BTW, what do you mean "when you put the deck on a laptop keyboard to gain space"?
You actually place your controller on top of the laptop keyboard?

i'd like next version of serato itch to be more similar to scratchlive
i've been a serato user since 2006
i have sl1, sl3, rane ttm57sl, denon dn-hc1000s. vestax vci300, vestax vfx1
i work in clubs with both scratchlive with turntables and serato itch with the vestax controller
i'd like Itch to have more or less the same main screen display of scratchlive
we should be able to control the track gain while we are playing it (like in scratchlive) we should be able to see the list of the cue points and the time point of each cue point (like in scratchlive),
should be possible to remove a cue point by pressing the "x" botton on the right side of the cue point panel instead of press shift + cue point on the controller
the software is perfect but this little changes it could be even better for djs who play with both scratchlive and serato itch

The whole itch philosophy is so that you don't have to touch the keyboard at all. If you have all your crates very organized, then other than opening itch, you would never have to touch the laptop. Now you want for them to start adding features that would allow that. Guess what? Itch is not for you! Get a controller with native control over SSL and stay over there. LOL!!! I am just kiding, I don't want to start a war!
As for DJs who use both platforms, what more could you want that all your cue points and loops work seamlessly? And that the layout even though it is different, it still is very familiar. I never used SSL before itch, the other day I went to a friends house who uses SSL and I felt very comfortable with it believe it or not. I am sure it works the other way around too.

they are simple things that might make me more comfortable while i'm working
i'm not asking for stupid things nobody needs,

i told you i use both ssl and itch, so on ssl i have 5 cue points, on itch i have just 3 points
while using itch i often need to play a song from the 4th or the 5th cue point so i need to drag the 4th cue or the 5th point to the third in order to avoid using the "4" or the "5" on the keyboard

Ok, now I do understand your remarks. You use the VCI right? Wel as an SSL user and Itch addict, this is a hardware limitation on the VCI. Some people here suggested already they want to use the loop buttons as 6 cue points, but that feature has never been aknowledged by the serato development team as far as I know (correct me if i'm wrong).
There are different controllers out there, and thus as many different kind of users.
So we must keep in mind they react all differently on certain posts, as they have another feel or experience with their controller.
For example: The Ns7 and the V7 do have 5 cue points, and 10 loops and rotating platter. In daily use, these controllers approach SSL the most. The VCI has another meaning: being portable, versatile, lightweight but still very pro.
Itch itself can add cue points and loops without controller, but for the real stuff you need the controller because it contains the soundcard. Setting gains is not required on Itch as it has autogain built in, and trimming is done on the controller.
Itch users in general do not want to touch there laptop at all during use, so extra keyboard strokes are banned on public demand.

i'm asking for it because i dont want to touch the keyboard i would like to avoid touching "4" "5" "9" "0" button
i'd rather prefer use the pad to drag the 4th and the 5th cue point to another position and then use just the controller
now i think we should stop debating between us and use this forum to suggest what we would see on the next version
if we stop discussing, this forum will be faster to read for them
if i don't need a sampler or the library showed with the cover artwork but i won't fight with people who want it
everyone should be able to write what he wants without explain to other users why he is asking for it

next not 'criticizing' just sometimes you need to explain what you want and provide reasons behind a request to make them more understandable and then more people will chime in and maybe your request can be developed better....

to say the ability to drag a cue point really makes less since than the ability to switch the cue point numbering in order to accommodate the vci-300. So possibly an older request of some how using the loopout buttons. to trigger cue points 4 and 5 would benefit this situation ?

I actually read this entire thread. I have a huge wishlist for Itch and a good amount got covered in this thread already.
I went ahead and made a mockup of how I think the UI should be and put it on flickr.
Photo page with description/discussion: www.flickr.com
Fullsize image: farm5.static.flickr.com
I hope this is ok with Serato. If not let me know and I'll remove immediately.
To summarize:
i would like to see a sampler and a option to sync the tracks on deck without hitting the button. why should i allways hit sync? there should be a checkbox that "allways sync loading a track".
I like the sampler idea but the execution makes no sense to me given current hardware. What you need is something like a drum machine with a screen that's easily navigated full of samples and the ability to cue them up one after another. Any samples in Itch would have to be put in some holding pattern and somehow accessed from the hardware (like an alternate method of using cue points) yet without disrupting songs playing on either deck. It just seems to make more sense to do it via AUX. Alternatively, a pluggable piece of optional hardware that controls Itch alongside the decks could work. No matter what, I see this as at least 50% hardware enhancement and not something that could come from Itch alone.
I like this idea. I think If I set the width once I shouldn't have to set it for every folder. Also the order, If I sort one folder for BPM I want all folders to be sorted by BPM
Yes. Brilliant. I put it in my mockup. Not that you can tell in a mockup if things are automatically done though. But really, only sort should be unique. Column width, column order, which columns to display... these all need to be the same for all panes and folders.
Yes. Knowing the song key would be nice. Put it in the mockup
Yes. Agreed. The LIbrary is the least important part. Since you can scroll and make the text bigger, there's no need for it to get 2/3 of the real estate. The rest of the stuff is much more important IMHO. Mocked up with new proportions.
Similar to this, I feel that cue points and loops should have a management UI even while the controller is plugged in. I want to be able to easily visualize my loops and cue points. Mocked it up.
As for gain... auto-gain doesn't seem to work. Would like to see that working in the next version of Itch.
I didn't mock this up because I didn't have time to mockup the song listings. But a simple generic flag would be nice. It can mean whatever you want it to mean. For some, it means dirty vs clean. For others, it means flagged vs unflagged. Whatever. Give us a flag in the library! Ideally it would be a right-click option and would change the appearance of the listing.
Yes! Mocked up. Put it under the v deck. You can always click inside the song info box too. Mockup includes little triangle callouts to make it obvious where something can be clicked.
Yes again! And all loops. See it in the mockup. Also added the ability to jump straight to any loop and start playing it immediately. Mockup displays list of all loops and a "virtual playhead" relative to the loop list.
Yes. Not mocked up. But right-mouse buttons to send to deck or do virtually anything would be much appreciated. Sometimes we use our mouse and when we do, it's a lot easier to have typical mouse functions available to us then to have to put down the mouse and move your hands to the controller.
In the mockup I also made the waveforms exaggerated so that transients stand out more and added little beat and bar dots to help visually align tracks. The tempo matching grid is HUGE and the beat matching graph is bigger/wider too. This should make it easier to visually beat match. In addition, though not mocked up, I believe there should be an arrow displayed in the beat matching graph the shows the direction of acceleration on the tempo when you spin the platters. So, spin Deck B clockwise and display a left-facing arrow on the lower half of the graph briefly.
I made the song info box smaller because really, who needs to see the full name of a song that's too long to fit in there? I'd rather use the space for other stuff. You can always wrap long song names or reveal the full name in a tooltip or something.
I have the graphic available as a scalable vector file should anyone be interested.
I went ahead and made a mockup of how I think the UI should be and put it on flickr.

I hope this is ok with Serato. If not let me know and I'll remove immediately.
To summarize:
Quote:
i would like to see a sampler and a option to sync the tracks on deck without hitting the button. why should i allways hit sync? there should be a checkbox that "allways sync loading a track".
Quote:
All colums the same at the all folder. However you set the all folder every other folder has the same headings and width.I like this idea.
Quote:
integrated key function on analyzing files so when you analyze files it also gives the key the tune is in as well as the bpm etc, if this cant be done then add key to the list of options on the header list.Yes. Knowing the song key would be nice. Put it in the mockup
Quote:
- Ability to Zoom in on the whole Waveform. Too Small.Yes. Agreed. The LIbrary is the least important part. Since you can scroll and make the text bigger, there's no need for it to get 2/3 of the real estate. The rest of the stuff is much more important IMHO. Mocked up with new proportions.
Quote:
- Gain controls that can be set and saved while the controller is plugged in, a-la Scratch Live (I hate doing it off line, I like to do it when I'm testing out new songs during a practice session.Similar to this, I feel that cue points and loops should have a management UI even while the controller is plugged in. I want to be able to easily visualize my loops and cue points. Mocked it up.
As for gain... auto-gain doesn't seem to work. Would like to see that working in the next version of Itch.

orbit, I have been doing that(using comments) as suggested in an old thread, the thing is i have to type the DIRTY or CLEAN to about 148 songs the night before (because I also received a new batch of Promo Only albums for the month), and when doing a (re)-analyse file, it writes back the original comments(which some of my music, the comments gives the BPM).I didn't mock this up because I didn't have time to mockup the song listings. Another change I'd like to see:
That spinning radial line on the virtual decks... it's meaningless to me as it is now. Sure, it may be rotating at 45rpm or 33rpm... but this is Itch and there is no actual vinyl... it's all digital. I see no benefit to having it rotate so arbitrarily. I find it distracting when trying to evaluate the synciness of one song with another (when doing manual syncing). Why? Because I expect this "play status" indicator to tell me something related to what is going on with the song.
Meanwhile, the song plays whether or not the platters on the controller is moving.
I would like to see the rotation of the line be wholly dependent on marking passing bars in the song. The line starts at the top for the first beat of the first bar, and should then travel around the circle and come back to the top for the first beat of the second bar.
Even for a really fast song this would be something your eyes can make sense out of. The song would have to be ridiculously fast for it to spin too fast to be useful. And the song would have to be ridiculously slow for the line to be too slow to be useful.
For songs where the BPM is unknown, just default to current behavior and add some color indicator so we know it's not showing us the bar cycle.
If both decks are perfectly sync, then you would see both lines at the top at the same time. If you choose to offset the decks on the half-measure then you would see one deck with the line at the top and the other with the line at the bottom.
If your song is wrong on BPM or wrong on the first beat of the bar, make it so that holding the tap button for at least 2 seconds, releasing and tapping with a normal short tap again within 2 seconds means you're telling Itch that that second tap is the first beat of the measure... subsequent taps set the temp. Voila.
It's just full of win.

+1000 on video for Itch. It should be possible to do and still keep the 1:1 ratio... at least for basic video mixing. For video FX and such it might need an outboard box like the VFX, but if you just had a few basic on-screen controls with keyboard shortcuts (for changing video transitions, etc), I'll bet NOBODY would mind having to hit the keyboard here and there.
Half of the time I don't even have the preview windows open in VSL if I am not changing transitions or using FX, so just adding video to the audio does not NECESSARILY mean that you have to break the 1:1 mapping "rule"...
It would be AWESOME to be able to do video with my VCI-300 when practicing at home or doing small gigs!

guys you do realize saying make it like SSL is almost as descriptive as saying make it work for me.
give specifics... what is it that you want so maybe developers will see and read and not just ignore the vagueness.
and as far as cosmetics unless it really helps in the process of djing it really isnt THAT important is it?

In terms of looking like SSL, im not too bothered, Im used to Itch now. But someone mentioned, on this thread or somewhere else, something that did make sense.
Moving the waves and deck info to the top (basically reverse the screen) as this is a more natural position for your eyes when DJing (but that might depend on your laptop set up). This makes sense to me, being able to glance across to the screen and look at the dance floor in one motion or at the same time. If you are looking at the bottom of the screen you can miss whats going on around you, and it appears like your staring at the screen. Whereas if the info was at the top you can look and still see whats going on and it won't look like you are just staring at the screen.
(is that what you mean Kraal?!)

actually i was the one that said ' the BOTTOM of the screen is more natuaral gaze area." I am a designer so just trust me on this :) that is why closed caption stuff flows across bottom and phone numbers and stuff on ads are put on the bottom the eyes are more relaxed.
but yes that is to the point of what i mean if there is a reason for a cosmetic change then of course it should be a feature request.

I think for me the issue is the software is pretty much the same and made by the same company for the same purpose (DJing) people would like to have the screen familiar...it's not enough that they don't share the all the same functions but to add insult to injury It looks like the ugly step sister lol
Like I said I came from SSL and I was a little disappointed.... A lot of Scratch Live DJ's that come over to either work or practice looks at it strange and to me it's no reason they should or should have to... The point of Itch was designed to work with specific hardware... Not feel like we have a lesser product. Perfect example would be Cubase... There are versions fitted for different price range and functions but they all look the same.

but besides that as far as making any type of suggestion i just pointed out to be specific tell them exactly what it is you want. My suggestion is just to move things forward. If you walk into an restaurant and order spaghetti and say man i wish your spaghetti was like that other spaghetti. without telling what it is you want to add to make it like that then it is not going to ever be implemented.
btw itch is similar to scratch live.( see you say you want it to be similar. i say it is unless more descriptions are given then we can never move past those ideas)

Besides the color scheme, other things that would make it better (and more like SL) would be (most have already been mentioned):
-Show both elapsed and remaining time
-Show ALL cue points (WITH their respective minute/second info)
-Ability to change track gain outside of offline mode (yes, you can do this with the knob - but I mean the ACTUAL SAVED GAIN of the track, so that you could set it once and have it always be the same).
-VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO! I would gladly pay for a video upgrade like I did with VSL.

1. Ability to customize the layout & color scheme of the interface.
2. A sample bank. Dont see what the hold up is with this, as its already been implemented in SSL.
Other than that, there is nothing wrong with itch.

Organising and constantly re-analysing crates every time you buy a few tunes is the single biggest pain in the arse when it comes to using software to mix

2. pressing shift - cue point # sets an additional cue point when that track is loaded to that side deck. now a single track can have a total of 15 cue points. 5 common on each decks which is currently how it works and an additional 5 left and 5 right accessible with the shift key.
wouldn't work b/c shift is already the delete button

I think Searto would just be better off doping Itch and make all the controllers native to Scratch Live!!!!! Why have 2 different software??
Because Rane is the exclusive provider for any and all Scratch Live hardware with a soundcard in it. Otherwise, this would be the best solution for sure.
True! but I mean right from the get go why did the not just partner Numark & Vestex with scratch live, they could have just made them native to SSL kinda like what they did with the Denon DN3700's..

I need the possibility to choose which signals are sent out of which outputs of the device so I can use my VCI 300 MK2 with an external Mixer. When I put one channel through the master out and one through the headphone out there are always problems with the auto-headphone-selection of the new incoming track.
The use of an external soundcard would be great but due to the fact that they won't include this option, they could at least let me use my Serato SL 1 interface.

I have just tryed out Itch for the first time. 2 points that come to mind to make me purchase it would be for Hot Cues to snap to Grid, its pointless having grids and not full utitlize them, it just makes your mix sound sloppy. Also the wavefrom on my 13" macbook is too small, I can drag the file menu to make it bigger but for some reason I cant drag the box round the wave and make it larger, seem daft.

i really hope itch becomes midi assignable soon, its the only way to effectively add new features. people are not going to want to buy a bunch of new pieces of hardware to control video or samples. also with the way its set up now i bet each piece of hardware would need a specific device for each new feature and thats just going to get way to messy with the development of this software.
assuming midi will happen i would like more cue points. i saw someone post this in a ssl thread and it sounded good. up to 16 cue points in a song. map them to an mpc pad and you can basically build an instrument
everyone keeps saying "a sampler like sp6". have you seen traktor 2 samples??? live sample recording from any deck or master out and running up to 16 samples at once. lets not get left too far behind here serato.
being able to stack 3 fx on each deck, and yeah im going to say more/better fx like ssl and traktor.
i like the stack view in ssl, a skin like that would be nice.

I think it would be awesome if Serato developed an ICH app for the Ipad.
Which allowed it to trigger samples, videos and effects.
It would work in combination with whatever hardware we own, allowing the ipad app to be updated with whatever changes itch implements...

Feature suggestions for Itch!
1. Update Crates In Case Of Changing Music Format
----------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Sometimes i change a format (e.g. before mp3 after apple lossless) of a tune.
But afterwords i have to change every crate which include the old track (mp3) - that needs a lot of time when the tune was in different crates or worse with more than one tune.
Please a one click solution!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
---
2. FLAC support!
3. On the fly adjustable "turntable" break (in the setup menue - it is worthless)
Possible solution: as longer you press the pause button - the tune get a longer spin out.

1. the ability to replace a song/file with a better copy ( ie same song @ 256kbps replaced by a 320 kbps version) no matter how many different crates it is in. So maybe you type the name of the track, highlight only the track versions that you want to replace , hit a "replace with" or "update with" button type in the better encoded file , hit " enter " and voila.
2. " did you mean" feature ..like a google search. You search song and instead of "not found" it says "did you mean ?" and you get a list of songs that closely resemble your search. maybe you left out a word or spelled the name wrong , or forgot to use a capital letter, etc. This would be very functional i think.
whatdyathink???

Better Editing Features of Database:
To be able to have the ability to edit, modify and update the crate/subcrate in a spreadsheet format like cvs or tab delimited files.
I have thousands of songs, and I run my system on two different computers, there are many songs that do not match, and i am constanty cleaning up song files in one or the other.
If I could only open up the crate backup file on excel and clean up anything I needed updated and when Im done, replace the file with my edited one would save hours.

This topic is about feature we are expecting in new updates of Itch 2.0 right?
1) A TRUE file management (like all others have vdj & traktor) which allows u to manage your files into serato (like renaming the file name) without having to do this in the explorer/finder and then to re-import and re-analyse the file into Serato.
Expecting : Management of the files into Serato works as using finder.
2) FLAC support !!!
Expecting: Being able to use FLAC files.
3) Improvement of Smart crate (in order to be able to define multiple criteria into the "genre")
example: let's say u have files which the genre are "Disco House" and "Funky House" and you would like to have both styles into 1 smart crate.
Using the rule "genre" "contains" "Disco" + a rule "genre" "contains" "Funky" gives u the result of an empty create... thats one of the improvement about smart crates that could be done
Expecting: Have REAL smart crate
4) a new filter column called "Counter" that makes a +1 each time a track has been played (for more than 30 sec for example). in order to give you a quick view of which of your track you play the most.
Expecting: To have it in the next update (this filter "counter" is also part of vdj & traktor) and I think it's a quite useful one when u get over 2000 files/crate ;)

As for file management, you can manage files in Itch just fine. You can edit Tags, delete songs from your harddrive/library, etc etc.
FLAC support. This one is one that always gets me, I have never EVER used a FLAC file. I always have mp3. But i've noticed in alot of itch discussions, that people want FLAC support. If i may ask, Why is this such an important feature for people. Is the quality of a FLAC file better then mp3 or what? FLAC files smaller then an mp3? What is so big about FLAC that people are dying for it in itch.
Smart crates, I don't really use smart crates because i had my library pretty much already setup before smart crates were introduced.
The counter idea is a great idea. Let us know which songs you play most often, I like that idea.
As for my personal desires and features i want in itch. I wouldn't mind the whole Cue labeling that SSL just got, and of course the bridge, because i also have ableton and an apc40 that i would love to use side by side with my NS7FX. And then of course, better effects, especially on the delay and echo FX.

@ 2Smooth420
I'm Wondering about which "etc etc" you are talking about cos they are NONE... of course today file management as improved from what it was before but it stays a BIG TIME behind the file management of Traktor (for exemple) which is working 100% LIKE an explorer windows or a Finder mac! So yes they are making progress but they have to continue to improve it in order to be able to use ONLY serato when you work on your files and not have to use finder and then serato and then finder again... Exemple :
1 - U still cannot rename a file name within serato (not talking about the tag but file name)
2 - Crates aren't making automatic updates (not talking about smart crate) :
let's say u got 50 new files today and u places them into 5 different folders (each folder on ur HD is also a create on serato)
Once u'r done into your explorer u start serato and what u have to do there is to upload tose folder into ur crates in order to get the songs into them... would be nice if this could be automatized...
and if by any mistake u forgot to rename a file correctly u have to make it OUTSIDE of serato and then get back again to serato and recheck that file there... (quite waste of time...)
2Smooth420
That u never heard any difference by comparing mp3 vs. Flac sounds so strange to me... (must be something wrong with your ears)... If you had told me "I compared AIFF/WAV vs. Flac and I heard no difference" then I would have agreed cos there is no difference flac is just smaller sized that's the only difference but quality from AIFF / WAV / FLAC are ALL THE SAME... and what ever u think about MP3 320KBPS there is a LOT of LOSS there compared to WAV (Try it out on REAL CLUB SOUND SYSTEMS u will hear it)
So for your personal knowledge I suggest u have a look on here : en.wikipedia.org
@ blackavenger
So true!!! (+1)
@ 2Smooth420
What about people who use it? I guess it's just normal we want them working like it should be isn't ?
@ signs
Right I've tried this out already, (I would say +1 cos it can help some people) ...
But then u get more than expected when u uncheck "Match all the following rules" when I do this I get also other kind of genre appearing into my smart crate so it's useless... I think they just need to make a "fine tuning" of it cos it's almost working perfectly.
So I hope they will make this small update that allows u to check multiple styles which will be great :)
I agree... it must be a JOKE lol ... Colored wav form is just one of the feature which makes what's ITCH / SSL is so different from others software around! Changing this into single color would be like going step back in time (from my point of view)...
It's so useful to see on the screen when u get instrumental / vocal / single beat... this feature is simply one of the best !
Let's try to don't downgrade the software but let's keep on upgrading it ;)

As for file management, you can manage files in Itch just fine. You can edit Tags, delete songs from your harddrive/library, etc etc.I'm Wondering about which "etc etc" you are talking about cos they are NONE... of course today file management as improved from what it was before but it stays a BIG TIME behind the file management of Traktor (for exemple) which is working 100% LIKE an explorer windows or a Finder mac!

Serato is unique for that particular tool, which really make it different from all the others softwares would be really a bad thing to remove it when it's a such powerful tool don't u agree ?
And beside I thing personally that there is many others things that they have to work on (in order to fix bugs - or - improve the software) than working on that...

Having colored wav form is disturbing u that much? Does it make you less performant? Does it slow down the software or software performances? Then what's the point of it?

i know my tracks and what's important to me is the upper edge of the waveform so to say. so many colors rather distract me from having a clear and quick look at the structure of the song.
but as you said each to his own therefore i suggested a button for switching between both views so everybody is happy

Well Im getting a bit confused in what you telling us:
Quote:
"i know my tracks and what's important to me is the upper edge of the waveform so to say."But if you know your tracks then why do u need to look the wav form? Personally when I know a track I don't look the wav form at all...
About spending time on the forum & reading news and topic here I can tell you that Im doing it really often, as well as participate to several beta test for ITCH, and I've to say that you are a very rare person on here who's requesting this...
To tell you about it... When I type on the search engine of the forum "single color waveforms" I can't find any relevant topic about it except this topic here and here:
serato.com (and even there the guy wasn't able to gives out the purpose of it...)
But I guess it will make your life better (still don't get really why exactly...) but yes why not makes everybody happy by having a feature that turns multicolors to single colors...

Kraal, I hope they are not saying it as a personal insult, but I have to admit, I thought the same thing. This is one of the most REQUESTED features in other industry competitor products.
Without FIRST explaining (like you did) it may be passed over, as that is defeating one the major advantages of going digital and working with Serato.
It's like someone saying, I wish you could toggle off the leather seats in a luxury car. It may be useful to some, but clearly a minority.

Mate Im not complaining at all, I was only surprised about that particular request and giving my opinion about it and that's why forums are made for... I was also curious to check out about the so many people who are talking about this like you seems to claim it and nothing else. I do respect opinion of everyone... and I think if you are fair, you can see that everybody is reacting to that particular request ;)
@ Kraal,
So I agree with Dj Cs, you should have started this way by telling us the purpose... That would have been easier for us to understand your particular request!
Personally I think this is not something that should stop u to go on digital...
Im not an expert with others softwares, I only see them when others djs I spin with are using them... and I think u should give a try to traktor (while waiting serato update its software the way u want it) cos If I remember well on traktor the waves form are yellow.
But maybe by adjusting the colors settings of your laptop could help you already (But I guess u tried it already...)
Cheers!

the whole thing could easily be solved by just making it optional. small button named "colored waveforms" with on and off. solved.
and as described already, the color blindness aside it's also much easier to see the general structure of the waveform at a glance if it's one solid color. that's physics, not my opinion.
and speaking of traktor, they switched to colored waveforms as well in TP2 and a number of people dismissed the upgrade because of that. they also did not incude an option to switch back to the old look.
in general a change of major elements of any software shouldn't be enforced but always include an option to change it back

Just trying to find out some tips that could help (in wait of some features).due to the different colors the waveform will always have different levels of brightness. as an example change it to black&white and have a look at it.
also by tweaking the gfx card the whole screen gets affected which could make other parts of the display worse in return.
i'm a bit surprised about the whole matter i have to say. such a basic feature causing so much attention and emotion. even more so since the serato apps are far from complex. the amount of features and options is very manageable and this is such a small thing compared to many of the other feature requests

I don't think saying that you are colors blind, and explaining us why you wanted to have a single color wav form is a matter ;)
I would say it's much better to say more about it than less cos then people can understand better what's the purpose of the request...
I guess cos you forgot to mention WHY, so that was surprising most people on here who loves this features. As you said it self, it seems like traktor is using this feature also, I guess there is a reason ;)
But let's end here with this topic no reason to keep on talking further now that we know the purpose. (and I hope for you that they will include what u expect for in the next update)
What I would suggest you (if you own Itch), it's maybe to open one help request & try to see if any technician from Serato can help you on that one. :) - maybe they can suggest you something -
Cheers !

small feature request:
if playing a track directly from the "Files" menu could it not be added to the "All" list in the crates?
would be really handy to have the "All"-crate only list what's in the crates so i wouldn't have to manually remove "one-timers" from the ALL-list

currently there are 2 settings for the platters: "33" and "45". how about a third one "0"?
the rest would be as it is but without the rotation it'd be much less distracting and wouldn't take the focus off the other more important areas

not the vinyl but the display on the screen. a simple and basic rule, the more animation on the screen the more difficult to focus

well what else can i say, the platters are annoying and don't serve a real purpose. at least to me.
also as mentioned in another thread as for me they could be gone completely. anyhow the main annoying thing is the rotation so an option to turn that off would be welcome.
and as mentioned above:
that's a biological thing, gotta blame nature for that :-P

Betting BPM Numbers like instead of the BPM saying 124.34 or 125.65 because when trying to math up the bpm is harder in scratch live its normal numbers for example 92 bpm left deck right deck 92 bpm it makes beat matching way easier . Also i dont know if its possible to use all the letters as samples instead of having them in seperate samples that would be really nice

yeh i do but when i try to match them up some of the numbers are off a little
Dj Vibeeezz

I can only get them to match up perfectly when i auto sync like for example when the songs have the same bpm and i want the bpm to be higher one deck would say 124.26 and the other would say either 124.30 or 126.23 it would not match up perfectly no matter how hard i try
