Hey people I am debating on the video jump. And I have a few questions
1- I do not have a midi controler I use a denon 1500s and 3500 cdj can I use the controller onscreen with the mouse to mix..what controlers the volume if I am doing video the mixer? this way the mixer only does NOT control crossfader but volumes up and down work????

2- if I am playing a regular song no video can i use the mixer even thoug I am have the plug in hooked up (for video)

3-if I have mpeg4 videos they will work on video correct? but lets say I am not using the video setup with those songs play audio only on serato or doI need an mp3

1- not sure what you are meaning?

2- you can play a normal audio file during a video set, you can also assign a video to play on the screens while this mp3 is playing.

3- if you load a video track without the video plugin runing scratch live will just play the audio from the video file.

thanks as for #1
simplier
I do not have a mixer that controls midi.
So I see that there is a crossfader on the screen for vsl can i use my mouse to slide back and forth the video?(crossfader) BUT what controls the volumes..Does everything else work on the mixer.(main volume ,up and down volume) but not the crossfader.

i use the 57 but i have friends that use the box with a non-midi mixer.
if the mixer is not midi it will control nothing but audio, no video.
that's where a midi controller helps. the nano kontrol is inexpensive and works well.

if you have no midi:
the arrow keys of the comp can be set to control the crossfader.
other than the mouse, i have no idea how to fade the video up and down.

to answer your question about "what controls volumes"...
the volumes, crossfader and everything else on the mixer works like it's suppose to.
volume is controlled the way it has always been controlled, by the mixer.

can you tell me more about the nano control what is it name so I can search it.

also sorry but above confused me I amnot familiar with midi control so please bare with me.
On regualr serato I use my denon 1500s. Now if I go and buy the plug in and I still use the 1500 s will it control anything .(the volume up and down and main volumes mic control) or do i have to get a whole new mixer for that.

where you answered what controls volumes it says the mixer will work like it is supposed to if so why does it not do crossfader

rick, you can use the lett right arrow keys on your keyboard to crossfade the video when the next version of VSL drops (any day now).

you can use a midi controller to get fancy with controlling video if you want.

once you purchase VSL you can play regular music files or video files whether you have video hooked up or not. obviously, if you don't have a video hookup, you'll only be playing the audio part.

your denon 1500s will control the video and audio together. they will scratch the video and audio back and forth.
you don't need a whole new mixer.

the way vsl works is this.
all audio plays thru a mixer and all images play out of the video port of the laptop, no video is sent thru the mixer.

i think i may be a little confused or we may have a miscommunication. i don't really understand the part that says "why does it not do crossfader?"
why does what not do crossfader? do you mean why does the crossfader not blend the video from one to the other?

in a situation where you do NOT have a midi mixer...
the volume faders on your mixer controls the audio. it will not fade the video in and out or up and down.
the crossfader on your mixer also controls the audio. it will blend audio but it will not blend video.

so if a person is playing video and they are mixing from "stanky leg" into "wind beneath my wings" the video of "stanky leg" is what everyone will be watching but they will be listening to bette midler singing you are the "wind beneath my wings."
to prevent that tragedy you need a controller that will mix from one video to the other, that is what a midi controller is for.

ok Kool

Now i just watched on you tube DJ STEEL video he says you need a contraption it was a box to run out of your video on your computer to get video is this true.

you explained the corssfader very well .thanks I did not understand the whole video and audio I thought it was one file ..but I knwo it is setup different.
tomatoslice 9:09 PM - 14 May, 2009
i have no idea what steel was talking about, it's probably just an adapter. it was so long ago that i saw his vid...i am sure someone else will chime in that knows.

the whole video and audio IS one file. like an mov, avi, mp4 or whatever.
it's just that you send a video signal and an audio signal.

it works the same with dvd mixing. on a dvj you send a video signal to say an edirol to mix the picture and you send an audio signal to a mixer.
