Upgrading Serato Dj from 1.6 to 1.7.4

Technicssl1200 2:32 PM - 1 August, 2015
Hi everyone,
I have 2x17'' macbook pro's. they both runs osx 10.8.5.
One of them is mid 2009 (2.8 C2D/8GBRAM/128SSD+1TB HD'S), and the other one is early 2011 (I7/8GB RAM/128SSD/1TB HD'S). I use serato dj version 1.6 (in both of them) with pioneer ddj sx controller.
Realy want to upgrade to version 1.7.4 or to the latest 1.7.6.
Does anyone here who has the same specifications like i have on my Mac's already upgrade and can tell me if this is safe or there is some problems/crashes/any issues with this upgrade?
I don't have any problems right now,and everythings goes smoothly in both of my mac's. The main reason i want to upgrade, is the cover arts for FLAC files that now can be displayed by Serato.
Thx everyone :)

You should do some read up on the forum to see some of the issues experiencing by the users and decide if it is worth it for you.

I can tell you from my experience is that all was great for me up to 1.7.4 while under OS 10.8.5. I run into problems every since upgrading to 10.9 and then 10.10.

Stay at 10.8.5 if you want to upgrade to 1.7 even 1.7.4. You will experience problems if you upgrade the OS to 10.9 or 10.10. I can't say much about 1.7.6 because I had already upgraded to newer OS when upgraded to 1.7.6.

I already checked and saw that the most-supported ios by all serato versions is 10.8, and i gonna stay with this os for sure.
To find an answer to my question in the forums is like looking for diamonds.. you need to dig real hard LOL, so if someone could shorten my way i be thankful! :)

Use SSL or OS X 10.8 with SDJ for best performance and less bugs/crashes

Technicssl1200 7:25 AM - 3 August, 2015
someone from Serato crew?..

2.5 intel core i5 - 16 gb ram -stock 500 gb hd - 13 in mid 2012

didnt upgrade to mavericks or yosemite, i rarely do until i get a whole new machine, which will probably be next year. may just get a terabyte SSD instead.
Technicssl1200 10:46 AM - 3 August, 2015
Cool,
1tb SSD is waste of money dude, instead install a small SSD (128/256 GB) for the O.S and mechanical 7200 rpm 1/2/3TB HD for the data. (instead the cd tray if you have one)

Would that help to reduce CPU on serato dj @Technicssl1200???or whats the benefit of doing that ^^^
Mr. Goodkat 8:17 PM - 3 August, 2015
im a cd collector as strange as that may be. so i dont wanna take out the cd drive. but i will look into getting a 7200 rpm gig drive. i thought about it and it is about 400$ cheaper.
Technicssl1200 8:32 AM - 4 August, 2015
The benefit is that your mac is gonna boot real fast (around 10/12 second), and overall all the performance goes faster while the O.S installed on SSD.
You don't need to storge all your music on SSD it's a waste of money (unless you have realy small collection and than you don't have any problems).I play a lot of FLAC files and i have almost 750GB of music on my mac,and it's getting bigger from month to month so i have to storge it on a mechanical HD instead a 1 TB SSD.
The idea is to keep the small SSD for the O.S and then you can upgrade the second HD to a bigger one when it comes to full capacity.

I upgraded my HD to a SSD a few months ago and it does boot up faster than before but i still have my cd drive installed. Everything works fine, just wondering if doing what you say will lower my CPU usage in serato dj @Technicssl1200.

Of course harddrive is not going to lower cpu. You need a more powerfull cpu. I don't ever reconmend people use less than a i7 quad core because these seem to work well with sdj anything less seems tobe when people start having issues. Amd with doing video and using pitch n time even seratos specs are an i7 cpu.

If you have an old mac stick with the oldest operating system you can then install both versions of sdj that way you can test it out and if have issue close it down and open the one you been using fine.

I had to upgrade my friend's 2013 13" MBP to Yosemite last night. It was having some awful times with SDJ 1.7.6 and OS 10.8. Put his MBP on Yosemite 10.10.4 with 1.7.6 and the 57mkII. Nothing but smooth playing and no f-ups for 6 hours straight. Just a heads up
