In fact the entire soundtrack for slumdog millionaire was scored in logic, as is all if a.r. Rahman's tracks.
I'm gonna say that of this year's nominees for academy awards, more were cut on FCP than in the entire history of nominees cut on vegas

kudos to your passion with FCP... but not everyone uses a MAC as their home workstation... and not everyone here is producing a major motion picture. music video editing and remixing can be done with many applications. some work easier and smoother than others.. it's just preference.

i have fcp but it's just overwhelming...
since i already know how to use acid pretty well vegas was just a natural progression.
i would love to sit in front of final cut for hours and attempt to figure out a few things but in that time i can bust out a few videos or screw around with vegas and learn alot more probably.
fcp ftw, svp ft"gotta get it down NOW!"

Hahaa. AL is always my reality check. Why does he have to come in and ruin my FCP propaganda?
Professional tools? They ALL are professional tools. Premeire, Vegas and FCP all do the same things. They all have the same features and they are all just about as capable as the other. If you think one has a feature the other doesn't, wait until the next version of something. They all play leapfrog.
However, fact still remains. More pros choose FCP. But probably not as much for technical reasons, and reasons that you guys wouldn't care about anyway.

If you legally own a previous version of Vegas, there's an extra $50 off if you upgrade by June.
I just paid $185.

The question is are the new features worth $185?

I'm doing 2 Bat Mitzvahs soon and I hired two videographers per celebration. One of them is going to help me edit the videos using FCP.
He said "once you get a hang of FCP, you will never want anything to do with Vegas".

editing footage from a bat mitzah can be done in very simple video programs.
editing/remixing music videos is fairly different, not a whole lot, but still different.

I'm no Vegas expert but one thing that I like about Vegas is that it was an audio program before it went to video.
If you are familiar with other Sony/Sonic Foundry software (Soundforge & Acid), Vegas would be easy to learn.
Vegas and Adobe After Affects seem like the best combination and you can use both programs on a Mac with Bootcamp and Windows XP.

Audio is horrible in FCP. The only thing I'll do in FCP to audio is chop and replace, fade ins and fade out. I won't even do normalization or apply compression or mess with dynamics at all in FCP. Yeah it it'll do it but why would you. The interface is brain dead for working with audio.

So is there any NLE that does it all pretty well? How is the audio on PPro CS4? Sounds like Sony Vegas has it on lock for most of what we do.

regardless, audio should be edited in an audio program. strictly speaking of music video edits, your video project should ALWAYS start with a finished audio track. no exceptions.

He said "once you get a hang of FCP, you will never want anything to do with Vegas".
I can't believe this guy wanted to charge me $75 per hour to help me with FCP. I know a videographer who uses Vegas and After Effects that is charging me $20 per hour.
Of course I'm going the Vegas route.
