Learn: Smart Crates

Why cant the Mix in Key function be incorporated within Serato when analyzing files rather than having to purchase another piece of software that resides outside serato. This facility is already available with Atomix Virtual DJ when analyzing files. This allows you to key a track on the fly when playing a live unrehearsed gig.
I have been keying my tracks for years and have to say when done correctly brings the floor to life and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
So please please Serato, I love your software but see if you can incorpoate this feature in to future releases as I would pay for this facility within your software.

please add the possibility to make more date rules
for example; last week, last month,....

+1

We want this feature, truly essential.

It would be great if the BPM range (& maybe even Harmonic Key) had a "filter button" above the library window.
That way if you are playing a track at 120bpm with the BPM filter engaged it would only show tracks in your library between 116-124bpm (or whatever your preset range would be.)
That free's up your smart crates to be doing more in depth sorting rather than something as simple as bpm.
Just an idea.

I love the smart crate, however a rule that I thought should have been in Serato from the gate was arranged by color code. Because I play a lot of different genre of music I have my tracks color code so if I could get my smart crates to arrange by color that would save a lot of time.

I want nested crates. For example - regular crate called Hip Hop. Inside that crate I want to be able to have nested smart crates . For example - Hip Hop 1A/1B, Hi Hop 2A/2B, etc. This would allow me to have a top level Genres crate, Nested with a Hi Hop crate and 12 sub smart crates for doing key sorting.

I support DJ Frustro with wanting to be able to nest smart crates, this would really be huge help. I have been using smart crates for years and this is one change I am hoping will happen soon.

I created a smart crate but, but it is empty. How do I import music to it.

sorry, I'm just a hobbit. just trying to learn the basics about creating smart crates. any help greatly appreciated.

I wish I would be able to click to a specific crate and be able to creat smart crates only within that crate instad of whole library . As far as mixed in key I've been using it for a few years now and I don't mind much the fact that you have to process files outside serato but I wish serato had an option where you can choose your columns by not only bpm artist or song . Being able to click and have tracks lined up by bpm and key for example would make everyone's set easier quicker and sound better

I have done the same thing within itunes with smart playlists. It's a great idea but the down side is the length of your smart-crate/playlist column in Serato becomes too long and slightly unmanageable.
That's why I'm trying to push Serato for a filter function. Where you can filter your library by bpm range and harmonic key. That way your not dealing with smart crates/playlists which to me seem more like a work around than a solution for such basic search functionality.

I too have quite the smartlist organization in iTunes as well which is how I came to realize the limitations of smart crates and nesting.

Having the option to create smart crates ruled limited to certain crates only, would be helpfull and seems easy enough to implement...i d like to keep my coments and grouping for other notes....

to be able to add subcrates to a smartcrates..

Can anybody tell me how to keep smart crates in alphabetical order or by numbers? mine tend to scramble on me quite often after I add new music. I do use Alchimie Zinc to add my music.

Would be nice to have also the "location" label in the first column rules of smart crates, not only the "filename". This way one could sort the music library by record catalogs e.g. Def Jam Records, if wants to organize singles/LPs like that. Or if this is already available in the new versions of Serato DJ please share it. Thanks!

i don't knw if this is already done with commnts, but i would liek to have this feature:
if i have a filepath for example: BLU/heavy/rock/jingle.mp3
i would like to have a filter fro the filapath containing word "heavy" and it would find every file for which filepath contains the word heavy.
i hope i was clear enough.
ty.
so the filter would look like (the name i mean)
contains filepath and then you would write something to get all the results depending on that filepath word

Please add the option to choose a specific folder or crate in smart crates.
Example... 1990 crate with Hip Hop sub-smart crates. Add the ability to import only Hip Hop from the 1990s crate.

I created smart crates: that show 1A bpm 75-80 ... to 1A 135-140
the problem is that i cannot create all versions of the camelot wheel for example from 1A to 12 A and 1B to 12B, becouse even though i can make all those filters after around 119 smart crates even though my memory is 8GB ram and i am using i7 proccessor, program starts to crash becouse i run out of memory!!!
for comparison:
in virtual dj i can make more then 500 smart cates/called filters and counting and the program is running smoothly! and loads smoothly and does not need 30 seconds to close!!!
Just saying...
Maybe Serato should find/employ some new programmers that don't suck!

I have the same problem Apollo. Although I have bpm range (75-80bpm) and under the bpm range sub folders with 7x genres groups (G1 House, G2 Electric, G3 Dub...)
My issue is the length of the playlists/crate column. It's cumbersome to use.

I'd love it if above the Library there were some form of filter function for BPM Range (& perhaps KEY.)
I mean, 95% of the time most people want to be looking at tracks in a mixable bpm range. It seems funny to have to use smart crates as a work around to have that ability.
