using plug ins with tt57

It would be great to be able to install an effect plug in from pc into tt57b and be able to use it . You would be unlimited then and could use favourite vst .

oooooh vst support would be very very interesting
nik39 8:12 PM 3 May 2006
I dont think that will easily work. The TTM57SL uses DSP's which are coded differently than any VST code. VST plugs work on x86 architecuter / IBM g*, DSPs are def not compatible. YOu would need to recode the VSTs.

Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

is dsp not a generic term for the process of useing an external piece of hardware to do the processing for some processor intensive appliccations like audio plugins

this device says it is a dsp device and its sole purpose is to run vst's

wait my bad just reread that site and as far as i can c it dosnt actually says dsp anywere sorry sorry
nik39 9:08 PM 3 May 2006
en.wikipedia.org <- click. First two entries. You cant take a VST and simply let it run on DSPs w/o major changes and rewritings, unless the DSPs emulate VST environment, which I doubt would make much sense.

This is where i got the idea its a piece of hardware into which you can load your favourite soft synth or effect .

I understand nothing about how the dsp effects work so maybe its impossible to impelemnt .

Can I use VSTs I've already purchased with Receptor? [-]
It depends. Receptor runs Windows-format DLLs, so if you have a Windows version of a VST, it may run on the box. Although the actual plug-ins are identical, their installation methods are different than with a Windows-based computer. Fortunately, most VST developers have expressed a willingness to offer a low cost or no cost “cross-grade” version to anyone who currently owns the same plugin in another format.

That doesn sound good.

But still interesting. Though I doubt they are using DSPs, looks more like a native PC built into a 19" rack size.

got an answer on sound on sound foprum that basically says vsts are programmed to run on a regular computer processor but you can reprogramme them if you access to the high level source code ......so basically what this means is it can work.....it would take a lot of work and would involve rane/serato getting involved with vst plugin makers (unless they are going to make there own)
the above is if you want the plugins to be "powered" by the ttm mixer
BUT
why not just make the software compatible with vsts this way you wont need to reprogramme the individual vsts as long as its the computers regular processor thats going to be running them
nik39 6:56 PM 4 May 2006
CAuse you would need to emulate x86 code on the DSPs, which takes ridiculous amount of CPU time.
DARK 7:15 PM 4 May 2006
dose the actual ssl software ie the virtual decks run natively on the mixer or will this be run by the computer as it is now???? because if its run by the computer then why would you need to change the vsts at all????
nik39 7:20 PM 4 May 2006
No offense, but forget my objections. If you think that it will work, cool enough.

Who cares about reality anyway.
DARK 7:30 PM 4 May 2006
i didnt mean to sound like i didnt believe u i was simply asking you to explain what the problem would be in that particular setup wasnt tryin to prove you wrong just ask about another way it might be done

but i wont ask anymore questions from now on dont worry ;)
nik39 7:33 PM 4 May 2006
Sorry for sounding harsh, I am just tired of repeating myself in this thread.

But I wont repeat myself anymore in this thread from now on, dont worry.

ok no problem well leave that one unanswered then
nik39 7:44 PM 4 May 2006
It runs on you computer. But dsk's suggestion was a different one, he said that the VSTs should run on the mixers DSPs.
DARK 7:49 PM 4 May 2006
ye i understand that and you have established that that isnt really practical or it simply wont work.........but i think the essence of the suggestion is to be able to use vst's .......and as long as you have a half decent processor then letting them run natively on your laptop/pc seems like a pretty good solution...........
nik39 7:50 PM 4 May 2006
I dont think thats the essence, b/c there were many VST-suggestions before and I am pretty sure DSK didnt miss them.
DARK 7:53 PM 4 May 2006
well i did..........so ill assume in the other threads there were reasons given why it wont work and that's fine thanks
