Question re Logos/Brand etc

Sorry if this question has been bought up over & over.

For those of you who have one, What were your ways of getting a logo/design? You pay someone professionally? (care to drop any links?). Or the ole do it yourself MS Paint Job? Or just go with the Times New Roman font on the flyers?

Looking at getting one myself and just trying to gage any ideas or imput from anyone?

99 Designs is an interesting option because you can get so many sketches done. It's tough working with one designer when you're not feeling what they're bringing to the table.
