Feature Ad: ROTATION STRIPE DECK SYNCRONIZATION

DJ.GAWK1 2:03 AM - 10 November, 2004
It would be very helpful to syncronize the Rotation Stripe with a users deck of choice. Either by drop down selection or manual map control allowing users to have accurate movement between hand & stripe.

Example: If the first kick drum wave aligns with the needle placer and both the Rotation Stripe and the users hand are at the 12 o'clock position respectively. Theorhetically if a users hand was to advance 1 rotation, foreward or reverse direction, the Rotation Stripe should remain syncronized & alined with the users hand position.

Maybe preloading popular decks would help? Please advise if this feature already exsists.

Thanks,

I think you'll find that 1 rotation of the platter already equals one rotation of the stripe.

Radish -

Thank you so much for your responce but, no thanks. When you have a facility to test SSL with every type of deck configuration and have experienced what my reccomendation refers to then I shall direct my suggestion to you. Until then, please, hold your comments until after class lets out.

best regards,
Mr. GAWK1

Hmmm...

By the way... I tested this using Denon's DN-S3000 (all my gear is part of my profile) so if you have a different experience with your personal set up then by all means SHARE YOUR RESEARCH.

Thank you.

I tested this out with a Pioneer CDJ 800 and a Technics TT, but I am unable to reproduce the same resluts.

I just spoke with DJGawk1 and found out that he is using Denon 3000's. I don't have a Denon to test this with.

Any other Denon users out there experiencing the same problem?
nik39 9:49 PM - 10 November, 2004
DJ.GAWK1, I think you should chill out a bit, radish was just trying to help you, no need to be that snotty.
About your request, can you maybe explain a bit more what your suggestion is? I am asking, because on my Technics turntables the line is in fact in sync with the records as long as you dont user any markers. As soon as you use marker the line will sync automatically when it gets nearer than 5 revolutions to the markerpoint, and it will automatically synced in a way that when you play the marker point the line will be exactly at 12oclock.
I dont know about other "decks" or so, but I am pretty sure that on vinyl turntables (are there any other turntables? ;) ) they will be in sync as well. The only problem which could occur is that with cd decks which dont have a "base" speed of that 33.3/45rpm it wont be in sync any more.

Very insightful. Thanks nik39. Actually on my way, with my Denon's in hand, to the shop to find out if they're still at factory spec. I'll inquire about the rotational deck speed as well.

Again, thanks!

We should have a denon 3000 today or tomorrow to test with.

Sorry Gawk, my mistake. I was thinking that by posting on a discussion board (and indeed, asking a question) you were inviting comments. I'll be sure to keep my big mouth shut in future.

Here's what I've learned.

Denon DN-S3000 & DN-S5000 platters spin at 45rpm. Also there is no way to adjust the decks from 45 to 33.3. Which is the reason why my hands placement on the platter doesn't move accurately to how the SSL Rotation Stripe spins on the interface.

Suggestion:
Make is possible to choose what speed the Rotation Stripe spins. Either 33.3 or 45 and if you're really anal you could take it as far as 78.

* It's likely Denon's new DN-S1000 will also spin at 45rpm's.

Thanks to all for contributing to this effort!

[radish - no harm, no foul. peace.]

DJ.GAWK1, 45rpm is allready implemented. The problem is, that if you switch to 45rpm, SSL also expects the control signal to be faster (than 33.3rpm) which is works fine on vinyl as the control signal is played faster, but does not work correctly on CDs (cause they still play at the constant base speed)

But it sounds like a good suggestion, a feature so that SSL in CD mode switches to 45rpm but expects the signal not to be faster but still syncs correctly movement with the rotation stripe.

Yeah! What nik39 said.

GAWK1, and any other Denon 3000 users - would you care to join in this conversation: www.scratchlive.net ?

We have a DN-S3000 at the moment, and are noticing some strange things about it. I'd be interested to hear about your experiences with it.
