iTunes Ratings vissible in serato

DJData 9:25 PM - 12 February, 2009
Hello all, i have been using itunes for archiving and organizing my music for a long time now, and the first thing i missed when searching for my tracks in Scratch live were the song ratings.
In itunes i always have my sort order on ratings , so when i type in a artist or song name, my personal favorite of that song or artist is the top on or one of the top once in my search result.
Thats speeds up my searches a lot, i noticed just now when i dont have that option in Scratch live, like i have it in iTunes.

Since a lot of other fields are already there i would hope that it's not to much of a hassle to bring this option to Scratch live, it would really help me alot in finding my tracks faster in the interface, just like i do with iTunes now, it's so much faster that way.

Thank you in advance for this very usefull extra functionallity ..

+1 , i'm using Mediamonkey at home on the same MP3 library that the one I use with serato. And I use the rating (the "stars") (by the way, Mediamonkey allows 10 levels of rating with half star unit, where itune just allows 5 levels).
That would be really great to have this tag field able to appear

Thanks

I have spoken with reps with this issue too. I think a rating would be IDEAL. Production and DJ are now my career. When I'm at the gym, or on a plane, I listen to tracks on my iphone or laptop and rate them. To have these ratings transfer over would be great.

Mediamonkey? I used to use Winamp back in the day, but iTunes is not only a standard, but it's stable, backed by, what I consider a solid company (Apple), and is free. Why not? :)

One possible workaround (something I use for "five star" songs) is to create a Smart Playlist(s) based on rating.

Those will show up in SSL.
DJData 10:31 PM - 8 March, 2009
I already did that and yes it works, but if i would not be a big programming thing it would be much easier to just have the ratings show up in serato, like they do in itunes, saves a lot of switching.

Now i first look for tracks in the 5 star playlist, the my 4 star playlist en then the total library, since i haven't rated all my tracks yet.

If the ratings would be vissible i can see all of this in 1 search of a track or artist name, the rated onces and the not rated ones.

Raphael: because MediaMonkey is simply much better! And yup, +1 to this. I'd love to have ratings come in from multiple programs, itunes and MM.

I posted a "how to" import iTunes ratings into serato bit.ly

As of right now I do all my previewing and set building in iTunes because I can only rate the songs in that interface. Incorporating this into SSL would mean much less reliance on iTunes' clunky interface. +1

curious as to why they haven't been able to implement this.

I don't use iTunes, but rating 1-5 would be great in Serato instead of using colors to organize tracks I like more than others
Forayem 9:19 AM - 21 November, 2012
Exactly, I like to use to colours to denote mood

Yep blue means chill, grey means space filler, green means ganja references, red means dangerous bizness!

hey guys i want to share how i am dealing this star rating problem.

i rate all my songs on itunes. now i am highlighting all the 5 star ratings songs and editing them at the same time and writing in the comment section "xxxxx".

i did this for 4 star 3 star 2 star 1 star

i then go to scratch live and display the comment sections and the stars are displayed as "xxxxx" "xxxx" "xxx" "xx" "x"

Thanks man, I too have my own rating system but I'd like the other field. I already have stuff in the comments field because I tunes has no key field so I need to use comments for that.

I currently use the colours in Itunes to show the star rating but I'd like to be able to free that up to tag the "feeling" of the songs... Basically I've gone a bit mad with tagging and that. But I got tonnes of diff styles and music so I need to keep tabs on it all or I forget stuff.

I completely understand you. I haven't yet incorporated "keys" yet. I have to buy mixed in key first. I'm going to have to figure out where I am going to put the "key" lol

+1 Just started using Scratch again and don't see this. Massively useful. Like others, I organize my music and set build in iTunes. Ratings are a hugely important part of my prep. Very useful to see them in Scratch.

just an idea on how this feature could be implemented:
serato.com
AddamXavier 7:34 PM - 14 July, 2013
i really would like this too, i am ocd about my music in iTunes and have all 10,000 tracks starred.

Suggestions for coding logic, since iTunes holds the ratings in their master file/database:
Copy ratings to the ratings section in MP3 files and just read the MP3's ratings data

a negative is potentially having a discrepancy between whats in the file and whats in iTunes, but Apple should have iTunes pull the rating from the file anyway.

Hello,

I would suggest Serato to memorize my last 200 playlists to build a database of the most played songs...and the most important....the tracks mixed before or after those songs.

Based on this database. Serato could suggest 3 songs to mix after the one playing.

Nothing based on meta data like tempo, style , year ..just based on my taste and what I play most of time .

As I a dj I've realise that I often play the same songs in the same order, even if i don't do it intentionnaly, everything based on my brain capacity. But if an inteligent suggestion feature could be implemented...It could help my brain to concider more "next tracks" options.

How do you like it ?
DJ Picjoe 3:59 PM - 3 November, 2013
Not being a developer, so I do not know how difficult it is to have iTunes ratings in Serato.......but..... I mean come on....NO RATING in Serato? That is more or less a deal killer!!!

I do not believe the ratings are written into the ID3 Tags posing future problems when you move your library or if the iTunes Library becomes corrupt. I suggest making up your own rating code to put into the comments field.
