I will give you my honest 2cents.....

On experience, since 2008 I have switched over from PC to Mac when it came to Music/Video or anything else in that matter. I have never looked back.

With PCs, they just DONT have the quality or shelf life like a Mac. Regardless of Specs, Macs are just built better.... last longer...... and have better resell value.

There is no difference, they work the same.

Seriously, I made the mistake of using Itch with my NS7 on a PC. FAIL. I remember one instance when I had that awkward 1-2 sec silence at this gig- embarrassing to say the least.

Apple all the way........ I could do a whole write up but right now i am at the gym...... But simpley put, they are of higher quality..... Let me make this comparason.....

Junk car that works will get you from point a to point b.........

A quality car will do it, do it over and over again for years...... Without fail

I've used both with Serato software, never had an issue with either.
phonze 12:18 AM - 18 April, 2014
If you go PC, I'd use it strictly for DJing and I'd keep other activities (porn) to a minimum. With that OS, it's risky. With my Mac, I don't worry about that stuff (though it's not bulletproof obviously).
Dj-M.Bezzle 12:34 AM - 18 April, 2014

Yall giving away all the gat dam secrets, stop recommending Macs and makin it easy for these new dudes. Let them struggle for a while and allow them to figure out for themselves why we use macs.

My late 2007 MacBook Pro is still going strong.
Scratch Live + M.E. using an external Firewire 800 hard drive.

Earlier this year I did purchase a new MacBook Pro so the 2007 is now a backup.

I use an ASUS G-series PC... running OS X 10.8.5.

Built like a tank and outperforms every MacBook Pro in it's generation.

That is an interesting build........

And thats me being an Apple Supporter and Fan boy from the core..........

I will definitely look into that.

Getting the Mac Operating system to run on it Natively wasn't too difficult I take it? Being that most parts especially the i7 Processors are the same I assume?

Never mind..... It is an interesting a cool feat and maybe something I would do on my spare time......

But after doing about 30 minutes of research into "Hackintosh" builds....... as cool as it is..... I just don't have the balls to go balls deep into a project like that...... lol

Hackintosh's and windows via bootcamp is all the proof that it's the OS. Not hardware specs.

my hp g61 on any version of windows runs SSL like a chump

Uhhh, you might not wanna say that too loud. I've said that before. You might ruffle the feathers of quite a many MacHeadz and have them questioning all that they believed.....You know... sort of like religion....

DJ Boss Sounds 5:35 PM - 18 April, 2014
Look, BillGatesFanBoys, windows are inferior because of the ambiguity of the hardware AND the inferior software. First, MSFT has not control of the 3rd party manufactures- that's why some PCs work and MOST don't. Second, Windows software is 2nd tier and will always be. Heck, they stole from Apple!!!!

Wanna surf the net, check email, etc....get a lowly PC running Windows.

Wanna make money DJing, graphic design, videos, i.e., creating something....BAM!!!
RonDu 5:38 PM - 18 April, 2014
I got my scroll on and I don't see anyone mentioning Windows was superior. Maybe it's the unseen hand at work.

It definitely is not a road that should be traveled without taking the time to do adequate research - and even then, there it a lot of installing and praying.

You mean "Mac Defender" (a Trojan)? What about it?

Or did you mean "Mac Guard," "Leap," or perhaps even "BackDoor.Flashback?"

Market share is everything. As OS X market share increases, so will the amount of attacks on the user base: just ask iOS 7 users.

I question this, when I run any version of ssl under windows on the g61 with lowest beffer settings and load tracks quick, do instant doubles and scratch I get loads of usb drop outs,

when I do the same on osx no issues

I DID get a Mac... and I hate it! I've had nothing but problems with SSL ever since.

- Tracks keep re-reading tags every time I open.
- Green Text gets reset every time I open.
- Half my music library doesn't load.
- Froze up on me twice in one gig.

I never had these issues with PC - ever! only reason I bought it was for video... which BTW it does well. D'oh!

lol I hear that! People rant about all the tweaks PCs need to get SSL working properly, but I've had to dig deep into this Mac to set permissions, reconstruct files, tag MP3's, and all kinds of adjustments. What a mess.

If you are using an external drive, is it formatted as NTFS?

I've had my theory on that. Personally, I think it's the development of the Windows application, but, as previously iterated, it's a theory.

My preference and expertise is in window but I've away felt mac was easier to use in regards to serato. How long have you owned a mac, maybe its growing pains or bad luck ?
Papa Midnight 1:26 AM - 22 April, 2014
As a note, if your drive is NTFS, and you wish to not change it, I recommend Paragon NTFS. Tuxera is just terrible.

That's weird.
When I first got my MacBook Pro, I installed SSL, plugged in my external HD, plugged in my SL1 and it was perfect. Not one single problem.
DJ Unique 4:57 AM - 22 April, 2014
I still prep all my stuff on a Windows 7 computer but DJ on a Mac.
My external is NTFS but I also use Paragon to allow it to write onto it.
DJ Reflex 3:23 AM - 23 April, 2014
No external hard drive, but I did load all my music from my PC about 3 months ago. Will that affect how the files are read? I am still having major troubles with Serato reading all the tags when I open SSL. I just reconstructed the entire Serato folder (for the 5th time) and recreated all my crates. I can't seem to identify what the problem is. Could be a file, could be a crate, could be the database v2, could be anything. The problem is it seems so random.
