I really doubt they would ever add in support for karaoke files... in fact I am sure you will get all sorts of grief just for suggesting it.

Ok so isn't that a good thing I kow I like to offer all my competitors features and then add my own spin on them. Can't serato do the same?

Compatibility with Numark NS7 would be nice, so I can spin videos with it :)

Waveform Video Output display where the waveform bounces up and down etc.

A horizontal waveform that changes based on the music played in realtime. (Like if I were to load an mp3 and then have that audio file playing; its waveform moving in realtime on the video output screen.


Speak into mic, with Video Output of Waveform in Real-Time.
(Horizontal waveform moving sort of like a mouth on a venue's video screens)

I am using the video SL for a short period and so far I found myself wasting
too much time on the video then the sound, it's not so encouraging to djs if
they have to be too focused on the videos.

Features I'd like to see.

1) I have the ttm57, but it would be nice if I could use the SSL-1 Unit to play my video files. Carrying around a ttm-57 into a club is HEAVY! The whole purpose of using a computer is to be fast and light.

2) When using serato (Audio Version) you can still play files back and edit cue points WITHOUT the hardware connected. It would be nice to have the same ability to play and edit my cue points for video.

3) I would like to see the Serato team make use of the areas to the left of the left deck and the right of the right deck to make the on screen buttons larger, as well as the video screens larger.

Hey I figure maybe it would help the developers at Serato if i wrote out in a little detail how I invisioned these feature suggestions and why.

1. 3rd "virtual video deck" to run a visualizer, logo section (up to 3 logos or 5) and possibly text support only option
it as an on off thing with a virtual fader (can be midi assigned)

Ok imagine the Video tab.
you have two "virtual video decks" with a main mix preview deck in the middle. to the right of the right "virtual video deck you have the legend or setup screen and to the right of that grey space. I propose to change the grey space. Ok imagine now a 4th screen to the right of the "right virtual visual deck" then the legend or setup and now "visualizer, logo section, text support.
(I CAN FURTHER EXPLAIN THIS IN GREAT DETAIL AS I HAVE IT DRAWN UP UPON REQUEST.)

2. link sp-6 to video clips ie ur in the mix with xxx has a little visual jingle as well.
My new friend Eloy has this jingle (drop) that has a bomb going off then Dj Eloy and basically it has a video counterpart. He can use the audio in the SP-6 sampler however cannot use the video part unless it is loaded into a virtual deck... I propose a TTM 57sl/ Midi activated Sample player that will not only activate audio samples but a video clip as well.

3. audio/ video linked effects.
Basically idea for echo... freeze desired effect and then repeat it at specified time beat (based on audio parameter) and then with each "echo" either lighten or darken the image.

idea for flanger... as flanger gets higher and higher brighten up the main output and wen it gets full bright say have it strobe or something... u get the idea lmao.

also please simplify the audio effect section of the TTM 57sl please lol. PRETTY PLEASE WIH A CHERRY ON FUCKING TOP LOLOLOL!!!

4. Cd+ g support

Please don't throw oranges at me. As of right now I don't do karoake but I certainly intend to start. It would aid to a large number of more bookings and well in turn higher pay per booking more profits... is it really such a crime to make more money? Help a new comer out lmao.

5. audio/ video splice feature (think poison video, or even mo money mo problems)

Ok if anyone has watched the poison video between the famous intro didididdidiididid dah 3 time s it has a 20 second bs clip of no music before the verse words and beat drop back in i propose a "splice of audio/ video" so i don't have to pre edit

also has two parts in mo money mo problems where the same happens lol

6. and if at all possible like live feed an input from say an external source say a video camera or a dvd with a photo montage etc.
hey it would definitely be cool to be able to play my swet 16 wedding montages without need of any external hardware and well the camera and live feed was a little bit over the top lmao.

high definition would be sick lol.

8. more codecs and video formats able to be used in the VSL program.
mostly just karoaoke and HD formats

9. video set recording (both audio and video being saved)
would be very cool once again.

Speaking of too taxing I relly think an apple macpro (desktop) with dual 3.2 ghz processors and 32 gb of ram might still have a hard time working with this system lol...

DAmn that was a long post... hey Rane/ Serato mods could u maybe throw this thread some feedback as to perhaps what is possible what is coming already and what will never happen upon first inspection.

if you plan on doing karaoke then use existing dedicated karaoke software.
There is plenty of solutions for that on the market now.
Once you try to implement karaoke into something like scratch live then it opens it up to "other" suggestions based around a karaoke jocks needs... like... the ability to show the next singer coming up on the screen... the ability to add singers and song requests for them... etc... etc..

there is software doing that now... use it instead.

other than that...

I personally would love to see audio effects that effect video at the same time...
like the delay with a video delaying the image and fading out... things like that.

oh no i def dont want all that fuckin fag bull shit with that the only damn reason i want it is so i can go to bars n be buy me for anight half karoake n half video jockey basically all i want is to play instrumentals with the words on screen and lable them karaoke in the file name (to seperate it from my regular instrumentals lol).

phat al what do u think about feature one and two they are nearer and somewhat dearer to my "heart" and VSL preferences.

visual sampler would be great...
but from a software developer perspective... (which I never have done)
it may cause more issues to try to resolve later..

unfortunately the more you put into a software the more likely you will have it open to problems.

I used Virtual DJ with timecodes and an Ecler Nuo 4 (midi compatible mixer) for mixing video 3 years plus.. until serato video worked all the kinks and made into a solid product.

The problem with Virtual DJ is that is has to many variable to make to not work correctly. I was one of the very few who had it working great 99% of the time. Due to my PC technical skills and LOTS of hours tweaking a system, etc...

You add too much to something and it may not function as solid as it is now.

I am happy with it's current versions and do look forward to add effects, etc.. but when you ask for karoake and other very far fetched features... it may not a be a good idea to put those in.

My only REAL request is smart crates!!! the ability to have it read crates like folders in a hard drive... when you add or subtract songs/videos it will show it! This is one thing Virtual DJ does have!!!

if you want a visual sampler and karaoke... use Virtual DJ.

please dont use that programs name in this discussion (thread) the answer to my issues lies deep within serato r&d not external software. lol.
Am i the only person who doesn't care too too much about smart crates per say. It is certainly not something i would use.

i am telling u if done correctly i don't know how much more taxing a my ideas 1, 2 and certainly not 4 would be.

Just think Windows Media player has a built in visualizer no problems there, etc.

Perhaps I'm an idiot, but according to the site the newest version of Video SL is 1.0.2. I can not find a 1.1.0 version. If there is where do you find it? Also I want to cue videos, but I would like to SEE the video, not just listen to it. To see the video you need the ttm-57 connected. I would like to see the video without the ttm 57 connected.

Hi there i'm using a 16.4" Laptop i would be nice if there is an option so i can move each deck at the left and right end of the screen so i can get a little bit more space for the waveform display...on each side of the decks there's a lot of unused space....just a suggestion

wouldn't you have to have a crazy good computer for high def support?

they already support hi-def. if you bought the retail box, you would have gotten the cd with hd clips. i actually don't have problems playing these, but maybe because the clips are so small. like nemix said, it's going to depend more on your cpu cause it will be working much harder than the SD videos we have.

well in short. When you change up files in a folder on your computer with all your tracks. Serato would automatically add those tracks into the crate once it loads up all the crates when starting up the software. Currently you have to use iTunes to kinda do this. I am not a fan of iTunes and do NOT want to have to use iTunes to do this. So like I said.. Virtual DJ has this option. Basically in VDJ you browse your computer and set up favorites as crates and it works like an explorer structure. If there are folders in folders (subcrates) then it would show up like that in the crate area. If you add or subtract tracks in the folders and open Virtual DJ.. the new tracks are listed and old ones gone. You can even "refresh" the folder (crate) in Virtual DJ. This has been a request from since the birth of Serato ... and it still hasn't made it's way to any new updates or improvements... bummer.

Currently you have to use 3rd party apps like Scratch Tools which works great.. with an exception of a few minor bugs. And the development of that isn't funded by Serato it is done by donations. It is command line driven so no interface or gui for the average user to use with ease. I understand it and use it. Just wish they would either join forces or just make "smart" crates in Serato itself.
