Running the new metal Mac Book.

I wanted to update to 1.8.3, so tried to rename my current version with the 1.8.2 so that the new version didnt overwrite it, but couldn't. It kept saying that I didnt have the necessary permissions to do this. I'm the one and only person using the mac!

Any way, I tried reparing disk permissions in disk utlity and now when I try to launch SSL, the first 3 attempts to launch result in SSL unexpectedly quitting. If I just keep trying, eventually it launches. Sometimes if I select reset settings. I have installed 1.8.3 now as I hoped that this would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

Help please!

Just some more info. SSL seems to launch OK when the interface is disconnected. It quits when the interface is connected via usb. Then it won't start up until i get the option to reset and relaunch rather than just relaunching.

Hi supayoot - with regards to your permissions problem - you may need to change the Scratch LIVE file to "read & write" mode instead of "read only". Do this by clicking control + I and going to the sharing & permissions tab.

Can you please give me a few specs for your computer? i.e. Processor and memory? You can find this info in the "about this mac" section of the Apple menu.

Thanks

Hi Aroha

Processor 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo
memory 2g

OS 10.5.6

Here is the report. I have a show tonight and don't know what's happened.

I can't rename SSL still. I have tried what you said and under sharing and permissions I am listed as read/write and still it says that "you don not have sufficient access privaleges to rename the item Scratch Live".

I have reinstalled 1.8.2 - same problem. Only after 3rd failure to load and I am given the option to "reset & relaunch" will it load. This happens everytime I try and load SSL.

Here's the report

Did the report help?

Hi supayoot - I have one of our developers looking at it now for you. Will get back to you when I have a clearer picture of what's happening. Thanks

Hi supayoot - for some reason you are running a power PC version of Scratch LIVE. Can you please click on the Scratch LIVE logo (for the version you're using) and click command + I. There will most likely be a checkbox there which says "open using rosetta" which is ticked. See what I mean by clicking this link: developer.apple.com

In the section titled - Make a Setting in the Info Window - you'll see how.

Please let me know if this helps at all. Thanks
supayoot 11:43 AM - 20 January, 2009
Aroha Perfect!

I don't know how that happened, but yes I was running a power pc version! The Rosetta option was ticked!

I still can't rename the SSL filename. I have tried installing 1.8.3 again, but I can't rename that either. Do I need to close this thread and open a new one?

Are you logged into your computer as an Administrator? The problem you're encountering sounds like you've got 2 user accounts setup and the one you're logged into is a guest account. Can you check in your system preferences in accounts?
supayoot 9:59 AM - 21 January, 2009
I am the only account set up and am Admin.

So weird. I have only had the Mac Book since Nov and haven't tried to rename SSL before. I can rename other applications, just not SSL.

Anything else to check?

Can you highlight the application, click command + I to bring up the info box and expand all the drop down menus so I can see everything, then take a screenshot? To take a screenshot hold down Shift - Command - 3, and this should save a file to your desktop. You can upload it for me to have a look at here: www.serato.com

If you could take a screenshot of your applications folder too, with all your applications in view in a list (i.e. with date modified, size, kind) that could be helpful too.

Let me know once you've done this and hopefully we can get this sorted!

Uploaded the screenshot yesterday.

Did you get the screenshot OK?

Aroha 8:43 PM - 26 January, 2009
Hey supayoot - sorry for the late response - it was the weekend here in NZ. Okay - I've had a look at your screenshot, thanks for uploading this.

Can you log out of the admin user account and into the system account? Ideally you should only have 2 accounts visible in the menu you sent me - admin and everyone, however you have a third system account, which looks to me as if it's set as your admin. Whilst the 2nd account is named admin - the icon next to it shows 2 heads, meaning it's a secondary account, and the system one has an icon with one head, which means it's the primary account. To save confusion, I'd recommend naming your main account with your name (do this is system preferences).

Once you've logged into the system account - see if you can rename the application then. When I bring up the info window for Scratch LIVE on my computer - the name and extension are bold and able to be renamed, and not greyed out as they are in your screenshot.

Please let me know if this helps. Thanks
supayoot 3:39 PM - 28 January, 2009
Aroha

I seem only to have the option to log in as myself.

I have sent you a screenshot of the account info in system preferences.

Hmmm... it looks like everything is set correctly. Can you move the Scratch LIVE 1.8.2 application to your desktop, or does it give you an error message then too? If you can move it, will it allow you to rename it from there?

Either way, if you can move one version to the desktop (i.e. a different location to where you have 1.8.3 installed), you should be able to run them together without 1.8.2 being overwritten. This at least will allow you to run 1.8.3 to test it is stable for you prior to overwriting 1.8.2.

Aroha

It worked, thank you!

There must be something with the latest macbooks to make this renaming an issue.

In case anyone else has this problem.

1 From Applications Folder, drag SSL onto desktop
2 Rename the SSL folder on desktop with the version number ie "Scratch Live 1.8.2"
3 Drag back into Applications Folder
4 I then got the message "Cannot modify Application Folder"
5 Click Authenticate
6 Enter your user password
7 Both the original SSL and 1.8.2 SSL folders are in Applications.

Nice one!

Great news - I'm glad you got it sorted and I'll be sure to keep your experience in mind should any of our other users have the same problem. Thanks
