The official 'tricking your crowd' thread

DJ Young Herrera 10:32 PM - 5 December, 2008
So an obvious one was mentioned in another thread; playing David Bowie/Queen - Under Pressure:

I just played it last night for a buncha 18+ peeps...they get all excited when they hear the baseline...and then the faces look funny when Freddy Mercury starts singing. lol

Another one I've done is to play O-Zone's Euro house tune Dragostea Din Tei instead of T.I./Rihanna Live Your Life...hahaha so funny!

sylvia striplin - cant turn me away regularly gets a spin in warm up sets, and all the hip hop heads go mental because they think im playing get money... and all the almost-30 rnb chicks go mental because they think im playing get on up. then they all have a jam anyway because they realise how live it is anyway.
DVDjHardy 9:15 AM - 6 December, 2008

Nice one, but I NEVER mind playing the Ice Cube track! I play "Under Pressure" just to fuck with those who get all excited about "Ice Ice Baby"...lol.

I've played "Release the Beast" a few times live and it works better than "Robot Rock" because it has more words and it pisses off fewer people because they don''t think: "Oh shit, ANOTHER techno song...".

I played the Tribe remix that is sampled for "A Milli" a while back and it seemed everyone just had a blank stare on their face. Then I slowed it down without pitch lock...the fuckers went crazy as if Jesus himself just made an appearance in the middle of the dance floor...lol. I need to video tape this!

this thread is interesting, but depressing because of how many good songs that i had no clue where sampled.
mister_wilson 6:54 AM - 9 December, 2008
I prefer to play a song that makes people say "WTF" until they hear the the part of the song that was sampled (maybe looped) and then drop in the sampled song once the sample loop hits. It just builds more drama that way.

Here are some old ones I used to do

Souls Searcher's Blow Your Whistle going into Tambourine by Eve.
Creative Source's I'd Find You Anywhere going into Wouldn't Get Far by The Game.
Daft Punk's Technologic into Touch it by Busta Rhymes
Meters Oh Cacluctta into 1 Thing by Amerie
Norman Conner's Invitation into Brown Sugar by Mos Def (I still use this one)
Quincy Jones's Soul Bossa Nova into Number One Spot by Ludacris

I got a couple that I am still getting distanct out of but Kanye is breaking my heart leaving his sampler behind (somewhat) on his new album.
djchrischip 11:21 AM - 9 December, 2008
that maino hi hater into the track from 1983 was insane definitely impressed with legacy's knowledge of music...

I hope that in like 3 years i can be like that when it comes to knowing music.

Into the obvious....

Watchwww.youtube.com

Old crowds always see it comin...but youngsters 25 and under NEVER see it...they just nod their head with that "damm...this song was dope, but I don't know any of the words...damm everything in here sounds familiar, from the drums, to the lyrics.....I get money...the mo.......OHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT'S WHERE 50 GOT IT FROM!!!!!"

Even younger DJ's don't know about this song...a lot of them were like "damn that's dope!" when they first heard me do it.

Ha, I only recognize it from the tiny clip that plays in the intro of Ready to Die.
R-Tistic 6:52 PM - 9 December, 2008
^For me, I grew up in L.A. and on the 90's so I never heard it on radio, but just used to hear it randomly...and parts of the songs were sampled a million times. I never really paid attention to it until XXL or Source put out a "Top 25 Rap beats of all time" and they had that at #1...I was like wtf, I know what song that is, but #1??? I started listenin to it, and was like damm...this song is hella empty and 80's but it goes waaay too hard!

Speakin of this thread...you can drop this song versus Mary J "Real love" since that sampled the drums...and a million other songs have sampled the drums in some way. Parts of the song like "Stop schemin and lookin hard" have been sampled in tracks like "Bitch N'ggas" on Dre 2001...and Snoop has a song called "Balls of steel" on Tha Eastsidaz album where he raps the lyrics of this track over a much different beat.

So yeah...it's not as known as a lot of 80's songs, but is a Hip Hop classic...and 50 really brought it back to life with the sample.
