MP4 tagging and metadata in 2.4.4 (making the upgrade!)

DJ DisGrace 9:27 PM - 17 May, 2013
I'm wiping my MBP, installing ML, SSL2.4.4 and ME2.2 FINALLY!!!

I've noticed in 2.0.0 (which I'm still on), that if I make cues and loops then move the file, those changes are gone. From what I can tell, that all changed in 2.3.3, but at this point I'm just going to make the jump direct to 2.4.4.

I've searched around and can't really get a clear answer, hoping someone can confirm:

1- Once I make cues and loops in 2.4.4, those will stay with the file even if I move it? (I would download now, make my cues and loops, then transfer everything to my gigging external drive in a few days)

2- When I rescan old MP4 files, is the old metadata system transferred to the file? or will I have to manually delete my metadata files and redo my cues and loops (assuming I move the file)

Thanks

ya dont touch 2.3.3. it was a very bad version.
phatbob 10:10 PM - 17 May, 2013
It's been a while since I did that upgrade, but this is what I remember doing...

The files which don't retain metadata have bad tag headers. They'll be the ones with XML files in the library folder.

Now is the time to get rid of that shit. Identify them, pull them into a folder, then do a batch 'save as' in mpeg streamclip.

Now you'll have to retag them, but (hopefully) for the last time ever.

Ya, good to know. I was gonna go that route so I didn't have to fork out for the ME upgrade just yet, but why go through all this trouble then have to do it again later...

I'm assuming ME 2.1 does not play well with 2.4.4? Or does it? I'm confused over who fixed the "break", I seem to recall both sides releasing fixes....

If you're using Scratch Live 2.4 or higher, you need to use MixEmergency 2.1.0 - MixEmergency 2.0.1 will only work with lower versions of Scratch Live.

But someone did have some trouble and needed ME 2.2

Anyone out there using ME 2.1 with SSL 2.4.4?
phatbob 10:51 PM - 17 May, 2013
ME 2.1 (free upgrade) works with 2.4 and up, you only pay for the upgrade to ME 2.2. Which is worth it when you can.

OK, thought maybe that was the case. Thanks.

First step now is to rescan with ITCH for grids... or does a Serato DJ scan give me grids also? I was way down on ME 1.6, the beat grid effects are a novelty for this guy!
phatbob 10:56 PM - 17 May, 2013
I'd go SDJ, it's the latest shizz, so development is parallel with the current SL.
phatbob 10:58 PM - 17 May, 2013
Make sure you turn on Smart Sync in the SDJ setup though, or you won't see the grids to tweak them.

It's worth checking all videos with like, a remixer 'ident' at the start, as that usually throws the grid off the downbeat.

Yes, it's been mostly fine.

I've had few SL-related MIDI issues with Lemur.

Sorry, I'm using ME 2.2, not 2.1.

Not sure why anyone would want to be staying on ME 2.1...

I'm am the poorest student you've ever met.... Hoping for a few gigs this summer, then will pull the trigger on ME 2.2 right away.

Just want to get things up and running for now. I've been stuck on 10.7.5 so I can use this horrible exam-taking software. Fresh ML instal going down tonight!

Ya i hear you on the poor student end. 2.2 is cool, but not amazing, I bought it because I don't want to wait for any new updates but all that's changed so far is the FX sequencer (and now that I got it programmed its actually worth using) and a new skin for the software. Beyond that its still just ME. I looking forward to the next update though!

Good move. About half the Lion and Mountain Lion installations that were done as "upgrade installs" I've seen have been screwed up in some way.

Clean install for the major (cat-name-change) OS updates, Combo Update for the minor updates.

I'd forgotten that 2.1-2.2 was where the old ME authorizations stopped...

I'm excited enough to start using beat fx, that's a big upgrade in my books. I may only get a couple gigs this summer anyway, and then it's back to my study hole again.

I don't really see myself having time to get the fx sequencer going in time to make it worthwhile anyway. One thing at a time!

I have read horror stories, or other weird issues that can't be explained but are fixed with a fresh install. Making a Super Duper clone now. I usually migrate with Time Machine for simplicity's sake, but this time I'm going to reinstall all my apps from the ground up, and manually copy folders for documents, bookmarks, stickies, etc...

Doing this terrifies me.... I have only ever used time machine to install files when I upgraded my OS. Theres so many little setting and things I like that I dont want to have todo again.

Yea, I've changed sooo many things. Even the minor stuff like screenshots going directly to pdf, it will be a pain to do again, but still looking forward to a clean slate. I assume I can easily transfer my automater script files over to the new OS, so it's not all lost.

My disc permissions were a nightmare, so of the them couldn't even be fixed. I don't want to risk transferring any of that crap over, not mention all the spanish directories from my failed attempt at a bootleg of Office.
phatbob 12:19 AM - 18 May, 2013
Clean install of 10.8 FTW definitely.

I did an upgrade install and got lock-ups and dropouts all over the place. Super Duper saved the day with that one.

Since then, did a clean install a few weeks ago, and that is buttah.
DJ DisGrace 12:56 PM - 18 May, 2013
Install went great, but some weird problems trying to migrate my Mix Emergency settings...

From my help ticket over at Inklen
Quote:
I've just upgraded to ML and installed a fresh copy of ME 2.1. Using my cloned backup, I transferred the Mix Emergency folder from "Movies" to my new account, but none of the settings appear when I launch the new version.

By "settings", I mean image overlay settings, random transition settings, preview/output window placement, etc... those were all maintained went I went from 1.6 to 2.1 on my old system, but can't get them to be the default on my new ML install
