SEARCH Feature Improvement/Suggestion

musiclee 8:32 PM - 15 May, 2013
as i like to search ALL my crates ALL the time no matter what the search method,
and clicking in search box searches only the highlighted crate, not all crates

i suggest Serato add the following options in SSL setup:
(where user checks or unchecks to his/her liking)

Ctrl+F >> searches all crates
Ctrl+F >> searches highlighted crate
Click in Search Box >> searches all crates
Click in Search Box >> searches highlighted crate
deejdave 12:39 AM - 16 May, 2013
Click all at the top and then search and it will search all crates............. I truly hope this is not news to you.
musiclee 5:06 PM - 16 May, 2013
dave,

it's not news to me

i don't want to have to click "all" all the time before dropping cursor in search box, that's annoying IMO

i want it to search ALL crates ALL the time...
deejdave 12:58 AM - 17 May, 2013
You mean by default unless specified?
musiclee 12:45 PM - 17 May, 2013
Dave

Re-read my post
I want the option to set it how we want
4 options, simple
So if I pick search all crates for ctrl+f
And pick search all crates for click in search
YES by default it would search all crates for MY setup

You set it like YOU want it

Don't be afraid of change
Don't think everyone wants it the same way as you

Calm down killer............... never said I thought this was a bad idea. If you see the use in this feature you are welcome to push onward with this. I wasn't sure of the demand for such a feature so I searched it and there were a couple other posts on this topic but the problem was they were all by you. I generally ONLY use the search function for search my entire library (which can be done at any time by pressing cntrl+F) as opposed to using the crates for browsing purposes. That being said that does mot mean others could not benefit from this. There is no reason it could not be added though as long as the default setting is user selectable so all could have their way.
Dj MacMillz 1:20 PM - 18 May, 2013
This is essentially what cntrl + F does. There is really no need to add selectable options.

You want to search all crates/sub crates all the time: cntrl+ f, search for song, load song, rinse and repeat, you don't have to leave that field, just delete the text and type new song.

It's simple enough, why complicate it.
musiclee 3:39 PM - 18 May, 2013
"There is really no need to add selectable options."

maybe for you, but for me there is the need
i want it to search everything, all the time, no matter how i choose to search
deejdave 7:11 PM - 18 May, 2013
Again this boils down to a matter of importance/relevance. As I stated previously there is nothing wrong with reaching for the stars to make your personal experience the best it can be but also as stated before by me & others don't hold your breath as this again may be at the bottom of the barrel if its in the barrel at all.

Here is the main problem IMO (again I know you get heated when people bring up relevant points that negate anything you say so I'm treading lightly). To do what you say would essentially bring it down to a "one action move" (i.e. 1 click of the mouse and you are searching your entire library). The problem with that is it is already a one action move. Although a combination of keys (cntrl+f) it is a one action move that actually takes less time than clicking with your mouse on the search field no? Have you ever had a sunny day where it was hard to see and you don't know for sure where your mouse pointer (bring on the cntrl+alt+cmnd+8 here for macs) is, well with cntrl+f you never have to worry about that. Just hit them and type away. If you want to get technical about it the use of the mouse/trackpad is in no way a "one action move" anyways (x-axis, y-axis, & click). I know this is petty but I'm just trying to hopefully help you understand that it's actually less effort to utilize cntrl+f then using the mouse pointer in the first place................ I swear I am not picking on you.

You know what for shits and giggles, walk us through a ideal scenario where your request will be optimal and much easier than using cntrl +f.
musiclee 4:23 AM - 19 May, 2013
All I will say is that adding this feature will not affect the way it works now
It will give us more options

Again, I never want to search inside 1 crate, even if I choose to take that complicated long way and click inside the search box

It's a simple request, if Serato adds it great, if not I will use the Ctrl + F Workaround. ;-)
musiclee 2:02 PM - 20 May, 2013
Had gig this weekend
I used ctrl+f to search all
But many times it was easier to click in search box, so I clicked

just wanna say it was annoying that it didn't search all
I have to constantly remember to ctrl+f

This is annoying. Just like me. Lol.
deejdave 8:28 PM - 20 May, 2013
I'm not sure if there is room for opinion on this one. It's just plain easier to hit cntrl+f than use your mouse/trackpad. Unless you can give just one example where it would be otherwise since it happened this past weekend to you.

My thoughts exactly.....I guess to each his own...*shrugs*
musiclee 9:27 PM - 20 May, 2013
dave, it is NOT easier for ME to hit ctrl+f, maybe it is for you, not for me

my cursor is already on the search position from previous search,
all i have to do is hit my mouse pad, 1 tap, vs pressing 2 keys

so it is easier for me to click inside the search box, and i want it to search everything, all the time

why are you so against this? it will not change how you search,
it will just give us all more options
Dj MacMillz 11:34 PM - 20 May, 2013
Question: What crate is selected when you do this?

musiclee 2:52 AM - 21 May, 2013
Not the ALL crate, that's the problem
deejdave 3:03 AM - 21 May, 2013
So why don't you put it on all and leave it there since you keep your cursor on the search position.
From this point if you say I need to move the cursor to select other crates you'll be negating your statement "my cursor is already on the search position from previous search"
If you instead say you navigated through your crates using keys so "all" is not highlighted you will be validating the statement it is easier to use the keys than the mouse.

I'm convinced you're making this more difficult than it is.

Let's say you have 5 crates
ALL
Hip Hop
Reggae
Top 40
R&B

Now let's say you're in the Hip Hop crate...then suddenly "oh shit, this new R&B joint got the same kinda beat/can go well with this track, plus it's a good transition track into a R&B set"

All you gotta do is hit CNTRL + F (yes even still clicked on the Hip Hop crate) and it will automatically 'jump' to the ALL crate and simultaneously put you in the SEARCH FIELD and all you gotta do is type away.
musiclee 4:07 AM - 21 May, 2013
Goodness. My cursor is not always in search. Sometimes yes sometimes no
Sometimes I use cursor method. Click the box. Other times Ctrl+f
Not everyone uses SSL the same way. Can you get that through your head?
Why can't I just search everything all time no matter what the search method I feel like using

I know you don't care for this, but I do
musiclee 4:12 AM - 21 May, 2013
Admin. Please close this topic

I don't care if there's some here that don't find this useful
And I'm not here to convince anyone to change or say there's a better way

It merely a suggestion, nothing more
TRIBALTECHNO 9:20 AM - 23 May, 2013
In traktor, when you search a crate/playlist and dont find what you are looking for, just hit enter and it searches your all/track collection for that certain track.
musiclee 12:29 PM - 23 May, 2013
That's cool
But my suggestion let's you customize it to your liking Thanks for that
boba 10:58 AM - 19 August, 2013
I strongly support the feature, that the search goes through the whole Music Collection every time. I have an idea, how this could look like. When you are in a certain crate and search for a track that is not in there but somewhere else in the Collection, it could be listed with a different color or something else. This way you know it´s obviously not in the specific crate you are in, but you can use the track directly instead of clicking on "All" and search again. I have to click on All multiple times on a night out, especially when I am djing b2b in a team - it´s kind of annoying.

I know this depends on how people use and design their crates, but I would love to see this feature somewhere in the future ( it should not be a big deal i think). It could be integrated as an Option, so people can decide whether thy want to use it or not.

Greetings, Boba
