Serato Video License Code? My first big gig.. Also Any Tips Optimizing It?

Zack O 6:56 PM - 15 May, 2013
Hey guys,

So I got myself a gig at one of the bigger clubs in my area and am super exited as this is one of my biggest chances, going to be running video on their 20 ft projector. My only problem is I am starting this Friday and don't have the video purchased yet! Lol.. I had bought the DDJ-SX and was under the impression it came with one but just must have missed the ones that shipped with it.

Anyways, thought I would check here in case anyone has an extra code they aren't using? Not asking for it for free, would be willing to workout some sort of deal or pay (maybe at a nice discount?) :)

If anyone has any tips to optimize performance (of both my MacBookPro and also Serato Video) since I am on a 13" mbp that is always welcomed. I had ran it in demo mode with many of the effects and had no problems under pretty heavy use.
Tips such as what effects are good to use as safe bets, etc to minimize video processing etc would be cool.

Thanks for the time
Zack

Totally and completely NOT COOL.

Fucking rude, in fact.
Zack O 7:04 PM - 15 May, 2013
Really? I thought people with a lot of extra codes would be completely willing to sell one off.

Sorry if it is not cool or rude.. Not even close to my intentions.
Zack O 7:08 PM - 15 May, 2013
I had seen people saying they had extra codes sitting around.

Thought it may not hurt to ask to BUY them? Rather than people sitting on codes they aren't or won't be using?

Haha still just trying to figure out how it's so rude.. I have absolutely no problem buying video and fully intend to, just thought i'd ask in case there was someone who has one they would would rather sell theirs off instead of it sitting around.

Posting what reads like a request for software piracy on the software-maker's forum seems pretty rude to me. Maybe I was being too harsh and should have said "clueless".

"A lot of extra codes?"
Zack O 7:11 PM - 15 May, 2013
Clearly I worded what I said wrong then. My mistake. I was mostly speaking towards those individuals already owners of Video and got an extra code in the package deal with DDJ-SX for example.

I would never 'pirate' software lol I have like I said no problem paying for it, not looking for handouts.

Half this thread anyways was moreso about tips to optimizing performance for my first gig?

First tip is to get a 15" MBP

Second tip is to not take a video gig until you at least own the right software. smdh

1. Jumping into a video gig without even owning or using the software before hand is giving good video dj's a bad look

2. asking for free or " extra code" is just plain wrong....go buy the plugin your gig should be able to cover the cost...IF IT DOESN'T YOU ARE UNDERCUTING A REAL VIDEO DJ......

3. You have no experience with mixing video...practice first

4 Your computer is not strong enough

BY THE SOUNDS OF THINGS YOU ARE NOT READY FOR A GIG AT A BIG CLUB

just sayin....
DJMark 7:27 PM - 15 May, 2013
The people running this forum have made it pretty clear that buying/selling type posts are not okay with them, so even leaving out the smell of "piracy-request" there's an issue. I don't usually bother playing "forum cop" but for a first "I just got a major gig"-type post this is really a bad look.

Also there's a ton of information posted in this forum related to what you're asking about...search/read and you will find.
Zack O 7:39 PM - 15 May, 2013
Appreciate the input.

I would gladly edit/remove the comment that is potentially offending. Can I do that?

Like I said though, I actually DO have experience with video it and have tested it... Ran fine. I don't think the 15" is absolutely necessary.

Not like taking a gig is a big deal before owning the software, just gotta checkout and you have it instantly so yeah... Of course the pay of the gig alone will more than cover it.

Just an FYI for you sayin Im undercutting video dj's, there are no other ones here.

Again though, still NOBODY has even remotely answered anything about optimizing performance, what effects to use, making your MBP run as efficiently as possible.

Seems like you guys are all just wanting to rip into the topic lol. It's all good because I already have READ everything I could on this forum. I guess thanks anyways.

Would love to just delete and close this topic. Went nowhere I intended or desired.
Zack O 7:42 PM - 15 May, 2013
Thanks DJMark for clarifying though, I obviously left a little to much ambiguity in my word choice to even leave the smell of a 'piracy request'.. Thanks for being cool though, definitely didn't mean it to come off that way.

I was multi-tasking while at a commercial real estate investment meeting so it was just a quick post, maybe not well worded.

Another thread where the OP asks for advice but ignores the best advice given to him...
Zack O 7:47 PM - 15 May, 2013
Didn't ignore it. Just not practical and I can't do that now. Don't see how that is the 'best' advice. Telling someone to go spend over $2k is your thought of the best answer?
Instead of being helpful feels like I'm just catching flack.
Zack O 7:49 PM - 15 May, 2013
Your comments were actually MORE THAN useless but thanks anyways DJ DisGrace SMDH
Zack O 7:50 PM - 15 May, 2013
Buy the software (duh) already said I am takes all of two seconds already have running and tested in demo
Buy a new laptop

Sweet thanks bro good advice.......

Sorry bro. But the best advice you will ever get about video is to buy a 15" MBP.

Take it or leave it.

It's been mentioned (many many times) that video-DJ-ing on a computer lacking a dedicated GPU will be a sub-optimal experience at best.

The advice to use a 15-inch MBP (which has a dedicated GPU) may have not been what you want to hear, but it's accurate.

Suggesting someone actually install and get familiar with the software before their "biggest gig" is bad advice?

Just to add more unwelcome advice...

Jumping into video DJ-ing suddenly for a Friday night event sounds like a Really Bad Idea (even leaving out the known fact of an inadequate computer for the task).

I strongly advise a lengthy (hours-long) real-world test AT THE VENUE, IMMEDIATELY.

You don't have time to mess around with "borrowing" a code from someone with "a lot of extra codes", so if you're already booked and can't find someone around there who is established with video you better get cracking. As in, drop everything else for the rest of the week, seriously. You've got like 55 hours.

+1 get to the venue a few days before the event and make sure everything works
Zack O 8:07 PM - 15 May, 2013
Haha never said I have no experience with video in general. Don't worry, I'll be fine. Just not on my own setup.

But thanks DJ Mark the advice is not 'unwelcomed' at all actually. I have ran it at the club for about 2 hours already. And absolutely, the whole code question was just stupid and shouldn't have even bothered to say it. I'm buying video today..

My only choice is to work with what I have at this moment. So I guess I have to work with sub-optimal. That's why i was asking how to optimize performance, basically to optimize sub-optimal laptop if that makes sense.. I could probably upgrade to a new laptop in a month or so.
Zack O 8:08 PM - 15 May, 2013
DJ DisGrace if you re-read past comments and my most recent comment, I actually have hooked up at the venue and everything worked just fine :)
skinnyguy 8:10 PM - 15 May, 2013
if you've been running it in demo mode pretty heavy and it's running fine, you should probably be okay.

DJ Zack- O you have to develop a thick skin hanging out on this forum.
I learned the hard way on this one, trust me..
One wrong comment and you bring out he best!
Good luck on your first video-gig..
Zack O 8:44 PM - 15 May, 2013
Thanks man appreciate that.

Didn't realize but will make sure to word my comments better in the future.

Appreciate the words.
