DJ Noodles
DJ Noodles is primarily known for an eclectic range of styles. Noodles' unique style developed from her early exposure to a variety of musical genres, ranging from reggae to hip hop, funk and electronic music. DJ Noodles was first known as the DMC World Champion London in 2006. In that particular year, she became an international sensation. Also, she was the first female DJ to make it as a finalist at the DMC Championship. DJ Noodles is a pioneer in the industry because her ability to juggle different elements of various musical styles has earned her the respect of the local community, as well as, many international DJs.
At an early stage of her life, she learned piano & violin partially because of her interests, but mostly to satisfy the expectation of her parents. Though she didn’t end up as pianist or violinist, those years of practices still enrich her sense of hearing.
At the age of 20, she went to National Taiwan University of Arts and majored in Media Broadcasting. Until one day, she incidentally noticed a forgotten turn-table, laying in the corner of the school’s recording studio. That was her first turn-table, and that was how she began her career as DJ.
Two years after she put her hands on the turn-table, her reputation soon spread out around to the hottest clubs in Taiwan. However, deep in her heart, she knew her goals were more than to establish a stable income, but to take music and her career to new heights.
She released an mix cd in 2005, called “Girls Dem Sugar” released by EMI, brought a blast of reggae fever to Taiwan. It was the first remix album to make it to the Top 10 mainstream charts. After dominating the Taiwanese scene for several years, Noodles had a chance to show her skills in Japan after that and was praised by other DJs and crowds alike.
In the year 2006, DJ Noodles was invited to be the opening act for The Black Eyed Peas concert held in Taipei with an audience of over 10,000 people. That same year, DJ Noodles won the Taiwan DMC Championship and was given the opportunity to represent Taiwan as the first woman to compete at the DMC World Finals. During the DMC Championship, she showed a very unique & surprising skill -- mixing while blindfolded. Audiences were amazed at such a creative performance. She blended funk & old school and recreated a new musical style.
In 2007, DJ Noodles expanded her career overseas, spinning music in Japan, Malaysia, Austria, and Switzerland. She also was featured in a German magazine, Juice.
Recently, she has established a school for DJs in Taiwan, hoping of guiding more teenagers to the right path. She wants to change the perspective of the more conservative Taiwanese because they do not recognize DJ-ing as a profession. She dreams that one day people would understand that DJs are no different than pianists or violinists. It takes years of practice to become a true musician and a DJ does just the same.
In the following years, DJ Noodles will go abroad to attend Point Blank, a music school in London. She’ll focus on music engineering & sound production.
