How to: Using the Relocate Lost Files Feature by Nick Maclaren, Serato
Using the Relocate Lost Files Feature
Scratch Live has a built in feature which can relocate your music if it has been moved to a different location on your computer. This how-to will give you a quick run down on using the "relocate lost files" effectively:
File Not Found?
When ever you change the location of a song or re-name a folder Scratch Live will "lose" the music resulting in it appearing red in your library. This means you cant load or play the track, and a "File Not Found" message will be displayed in its place.
In the example, Scratch Live has lost some of my music, due to me moving a folder to a new location on my hard-drive. My music is still on my hard drive, but Scratch Live can't find it anymore.
Luckily, there is an easy way to fix your playlist, providing you know roughly where to point Scratch Live to.
1. Go to the setup menu, and choose the library tab. Right at the bottom is the "relocate lost files" button.
2. Now, go to finder (Mac), or explorer (Win), and select the folder that you want Scratch Live to search through (I like to minimize Scratch Live slightly before this step so I can easily drag my folders over).
You can be as specific, or as general as you like when selecting your folder. In the example, I know I have moved the music I am looking for to a folder called "NZ Hip-Hop", however if you are unsure, you could search the entire contents of your music folder, or similar.
3. Now, simply drag this folder onto the "relocate lost files" button, and ScratchLIVE will search this folder for your missing music.
Finally, return to the main screen and your tracks should no longer appear red. You can now load your missing tracks and get back to playing your music!
